KoopaTV's 2021 GOTY Nominations!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - And other categories.

The following nominations were decided and talked about in our Koopa Keep Discord server. Behold! (See the bottom of this article for the link to the actual AWARDS.)

The déjà vu from years past is intentional. (To be eligible, those running have to start their existence in the United States of America from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.)

And just so you remember, GOTY stands for “Game of THAT Year”. That's the KoopaTV touch.

But yeah, this isn't just about gaming, but also ourselves. ‘cause KoopaTV is art to be recognised and applauded, too.

KoopaTV Game of THAT Year 2021 nominations
This article is such a rehash of the 2019 one
that I just took the first 20, and copy-pasted it to make a second 20!

Best KoopaTV Comment

  • “The Goomba Genocide continues to be the deadliest historical crisis in the history of both the Koopa and Mushroom(land) Kingdoms. Mario and his enablers continue to kill as many Goombas and Koopas under the pretense of "saving the Princess". They must all be arrested for and convicted of the many genocides they committed. Justice for all fellow Goombas, Koopas, and all of the Koopa Kingdom's people! Death penalty for Mario the Tyrant!” — Mr. Goombule
  • “I don’t know why people still trust game journalists. Probably the worst kind of journalist out there. The only review I trust is the one from the audience.” — Captain Stitch
  • “I mean. It's questionable that they used real world data for the purposes of a commercial. I'd love to think they did! But really, to me it's much more likely that minorities have had similar amounts of brainpower to those who persecute them all along.

To me the takeaway here is that racist notions of minorities being naturally "inferior" in some way, whether through socio-economic disparity or the decidedly more pseudoscientific metrics used to justify such arguments in the past, is weakening in the public consciousness. And that is absolutely a good thing.

In fact, I'd go so far as to call it a Very Good Thing.

    And ” — Lheticus Videre
  • “I agree with you that the 2005 energy legislation that George Bush signed, was "dumb."
Personally, I have no problems with the time shifting. I don't buy into the argument about having to reset our clocks. In today's society, it's automatically done on your devices for you.. So, unless you are setting your clocks at home manually. I know the issue is more complicated than that. But, the retail industry has had plenty to do with these DST extensions. First one started in 1987. Second extension started in 2007. The second one pushed me over the edge. Why? Well, you can see the consequences of that today. Morning sunrises are delayed too late into the morning, such as in March and early November. The candy lobby won by extending DST past Halloween. In southern climates, the golf industry won by starting DST in early to mid March...way earlier than our European counterparts.
There are four Federal bills being pushed onto the American people. There are also 19 States that will go to year round DST, if the Federal bill is rammed through. The option to stop clock changes, at the State level, and remain on Standard Time year round...is a hard sell. People want their long summer days. But, it is not needed nor welcome in the October-March period.
We tried this in 1974 and a portion of 1975. It was a failure and we reverted back to the six month observance of Standard Time. Now, we sit at only four months of Standard Time. Perhaps our society will have to learn the "hard way." Experience a full autumn and winter on DST. Wake up and commute in the dark. All for that extra hour in the evening, in the cold and inclement weather...especially in the northern States.
My suggestion? As a compromise, change the dates closer to the equinoxes. Standard Time kicks in first weekend of October. Daylight time returns last weekend of April, past Easter. I believe that would allow for a gentler adjustment. Standard Time is a healthier choice, but the forces that are in retail...golfing, barbecue, shopping, hospitality..all of it, will have to allow for a reduced DST season. Either that, or have time zone boundaries redrawn, so that the western edges of time zones don't end up with sunrises approaching 9 or 9:30am during December and January. That's my take on this.” — Unknown
  • “How are you supposed to answer the question to the last image you showed, that being which picture fits the description of cold-blooded? How are we supposed to know whether the Inkling or Octoling or both or neither equipped clothes with the ability "cold-blooded?"

Maybe that is why the villain of Splatoon 3 is turning octopuses into mammals to not be considered a "creepy crawlie" Watch out Squidwig! The villain considers Inklings creepy crawlies and will try to make all squids mammals too.” — ShinyGirafarig

  1. Does famicom detective girl really count as a new character? I suppose maybe for the west. I just started great ace attorney so we’ll see on that, otherwise I’d say raven beak is the best. Really changes your entire perspective on the game when you go to replay it, also gives an inkling of insight into who samus aran actually is. With that said, I don’t think he’ll be making any reappearances anytime soon.

Mario 3D and the Pokemon games also seem kinda weird to count for best ost seeing how their remakes(?), but I suppose the bowsers fury part has new music and Pokemon music has a new sound to it. I’m really not feeling the trial music, but the pre trial music from great ace attorney is pretty good so I’d go with that. We’ll see how I feel as time goes on.

Uh oh! Seems I’ve run out of time for now, so I’ll end by saying my favorite reaction was the gameawards one. Although I don’t think it’s on here. Excited for the official list.

    1. She's new for the west, as are the The Great Ace Attorney characters, and that's our standard as a western publication!

Bowser's Fury has new music, and Pokémon has done a total refresh of all the music.

I don't want to encourage people to read the Game Awards log more than I have to.

    2. Ah ah Ludwig.

“There are several good Koopatv experiences not listed above, they are all worth reading”

You say something to that degree in every newsletter. Seems by your own words you are encouraging people to read the game awards log (and all other articles) every single month! I wonder if this is your secret way of telling us you like the game awards. How Sick!
