KoopaTV Educated You In September

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Ready for October?

Normally, these filler recap articles that allow busy readers to catch up on the very important articles of the past month are posted on the first day of the new month. However, October is already proving to start off with a BANG, with a Nintendo Direct also on October 1st. So the recap article is for September 30.

KoopaTV has achieved some great things in the page views arena during September. You don't have the right to know specific numbers, but if we can maintain this growth, then great things are sure to come.

We're looking into ways to expand our content lineup and also our marketing tactics. Feel free to comment on anything you'd like specifically to happen.

And here are the five articles I recommend you read. Of course, every article on KoopaTV is a good article and recommended reading, but these are just five (in chronological order) I'm recommending HERE.
  1. Mega Pokémon Are FANTASTIC!
  2. Mighty Number Whine
  3. GTA-Free Is The Way To Be
  4. GTA V — A Danger to the Industry
  5. Operation: Exploit Monster Hunter As Much As Possible
And tell your friends about KoopaTV, too. Feel free to go for guest-posting too, like Mr. RockSoap did every Friday in September.

(Part 5) Smash 4 Character Roster Analysis!

By ROCKSOAP - Most Wanted: Waluigi, Ridley, Palutena, Little Mac, Krystal, Shadow, and Sora!

With each passing day, the next installment in Nintendo’s flagship, colorful, fan-service plagued fighting game franchise approaches. Of course, I’m talking about none other than Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U. Nintendo likes to save this hard ball until it’s really needed, only releasing one game in the series per home console, starting with the Nintendo 64. Smash 4 marks the first time the franchise will have a game on a portable system.

And as with any new Smash Brothers game, all the hype is not centered around how the gameplay will be different, or what new stages or items we’ll see, or even how the game will utilize the Wii U’s GamePad (if it will at all). Instead, the hype is focused solely on the CHARACTERS. Returning characters, newcomers, and possible third party combatants. All the fans are busy compiling their dream roster for the game; whether you’ve noticed or not, you’ve thought about it at least once.

The Real Meaning of Toon Link in Smash

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Not just the conductor, either.

So we went to something as trivial as a new Pokémon getting revealed for Pokémon X/Y to a SUPER SMASH BROS. 4 character being revealed. And once again, Masahiro Sakurai SMASHES expectations. After all, the conventional wisdom was that thanks to a certain screenshot, Toon Link had no chance.

Doublade ISN'T Just Two Honedge

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - A LITTLE more complicated.

For your information, I didn't make this in Paint. I made it in Scratch's costume editor. Anyway, today The Pokémon Company International announced an evolution to Honedge for Pokémon X/Y: It's Doublade. You know. "Double blade". So... some say it looks like two Honedge. I put this to the test.

Operation: Exploit Monster Hunter As Much As Possible

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - It's not like Capcom has anything left.

Hey, guys, let's keep looking at Capcom a little bit more. It's recently been revealed just how desperate Capcom's situation has become: They failed to meet their 2013 sales targets, and they only have $152 million in cash. And thankfully the consensus realizes that that's terrible for a long-standing game company. I kind of expected some socialists to be like "those fatcats have millions just lying around! They're fine!" but I haven't seen any. To put it into perspective, Capcom wouldn't be anywhere near affording Grand Theft Auto V. So with Capcom falling apart, Keiji Inafune should be laughing it up on how Capcom treating him like shit is now resulting in the entire company quickly dying, right?

Yamauchi Is Dead

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - So will you.

To be honest, I didn't want to write an article about the death of former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi. Besides Elizabeth Brett, I don't like this subject. (Not that I liked that EA killed her or anything.) But KoopaTV's other contributors didn't want to either. And someone had to do something. KoopaTV can take after Herman Cain's Best of Cain (formerly CainTV) all we want in selectively ignoring some stories and overemphasizing others to fit our agenda, but since we're obviously supposed to be a Nintendo-focused publication...

GTA V — A Danger to the Industry

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - How many more As can we add to AAA?

It has been revealed that Grand Theft Auto V has made over $800 million in revenue in 24 hours. Do you know what that means? That means that, at $60 per copy, GTA V has ALREADY sold more than 13.33 million copies. In 24 hours. That's about 154 copies per second over 24 hours. For comparison, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's first-day record back in 2011 was "only" more than 6.5 million copies and over $400 million in revenue. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said,

Wii Fit [Directly To] U!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - "Our bodies are sufficiently ready."

Wii Fit Trainer is certainly making herself feel very welcome among the elite Nintendo cast that will be in Super Smash Bros. 4, starting off a new Wii Fit U-themed direct and taking Satoru Iwata's AND Reggie Fils-Aime's catch-phrases. Notice how the male Wii Fit Trainer is nowhere to be found, too. See the Direct below... if you want. I really don't care about Wii Fit U (I do own Wii Fit though, and have been doing nothing with the Wii Balance Board.), but I DO care about the new business implications revealed (directly) by the... Nintendo Direct.

GTA-Free Is The Way To Be

By RAWKHAWK2010 - (Not to be confused with "GTA: Free", the Zynga spinoff.)

As many of you lads may already know, I'm a drug-and-alcohol-free individual. This means I have no interest in stealing cars, robbing banks, or killing people. This also means I have no interest in playing Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V

GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - It's a sweepstakes. Info after the "read more".

Back in the Pokémon Red and Blue days, the slogan for the Pokémon franchise was "Gotta Catch 'Em All!" I believe this was continued with Pokémon Gold and Silver but ended starting with Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire because it wasn't really possible to catch them all when those games first came out. (For example, Tyranitar wasn't available in-game, and backwards compatibility was eliminated.) Good thing we now have Pokémon Bank and all so we'll forever have backwards compatibility.

Mighty Number Whine

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - "Creating something new."

It shouldn't be a secret that I'm naturally inclined to defend Capcom at many opportunities, despite them being accused of regressivity and anti-consumer activity. One heavy critic of Capcom is Mega Man designer Keiji Inafune. Inafune is, of course, now quite known for starting Comcept and creating a Kickstarter for his new idea, Mighty No. 9. It's quite Mega Man-like.

(Round 4 and Finals) Ludwig's Character Battle IX Votes!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Draven VS. Pokémon

KoopaTV was at the forefront of the rally for Link to defeat that League of Legends bastard, the one they call Draven. Unfortunately, it failed. I'll discuss why in a later article. The first match is today, September 11 (this is our September 11 article), and all matches last for 24 hours. For who I picked in Round 3, look here. I'm compiling both Round 4 (the semi-finals) and Round 5 in this article. The Finals match is September 15, Sunday, for 24 hours. Below are the characters that will earn Ludwig's votes. ...Voting for Mewtwo against Draven is particularly important.

By YOSHIRIDER123 - Sony Direct? I mean SCEJA Press Conference 2013.

It is time for another KoopaTV live reaction blog of a Nintendo Dir--... wait, what? This is Sony's turn? Well, sure, we'll do that too! I'm YoshiRider123, and contributor Rawk is rawkhawk2010, and this is the [Koopa Keep] Blast on AIM.

Because It Is Layton's Name!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - A true gentleman for allowing others to use his name?

To those who haven't heard yet: A new game in the Professor Layton series, named Layton 7, has been announced by Level-5. Well, whatever, it's not like KoopaTV really cares about this series outside of its crossover with Ace Attorney with Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. Maybe we should, but none of us have played it! ...Wait, hold on. The new game in the Professor Layton series won't have Layton in it? ...What?

(Part 2) Smash 4 Character Roster Analysis!

By ROCKSOAP - Toon Link, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Falco.

Mega Pokémon Are FANTASTIC!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - For flavour and competitive.

I have been witness to a lot of whining about Mega Pokémon. "They're overpowered!" "They're turning Pokémon into Digimon!" "Stop ruining the classics!" I think these people are a vocal minority, but to help clear a cloud of doubt, this post will be all about how this is nothing to fear. In fact, we should be excited!

KoopaTV's Pokémon Direct Live Reactions 9/4/13!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - MegaVenusaur works at the Pokémon Bank.

Unfortunately, KoopaTV regular contributor RawkHawk2010 wasn't able to attend this live blog due to sleeping, or something. So it's just myself as Nintendork 13 13, and YoshiRider and masteryoshirider. Watch the Direct yourself here! Follow along!

Year Of Luigi Anniversary Card!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - My Kirby plushie is in it.

We all know the "Year of Luigi" is Nintendo's attempt at making that bastard's twin brother more relevant. To review, it's to promote games Luigi is in like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and New Super Luigi U. It's all just marketing (despite some on Miiverse claiming that something special might happen by the end of 2013 — I think it'll be Christmas, not anything Luigi-related!) and because marketing on Facebook can be particularly cheap, Nintendo of America held submissions for a Luigi 30th Anniversary Card. And I won!

(Round 3) Ludwig's Character Battle IX Votes! (Vote for Link)

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Every 24 hours now. Draven ruins everything.

Round 3 are the Division Finals! And we start getting 24 hour matches. For those who don't know what this is, it's GameFAQs's 9th Character Battle. And this time, Link probably won't win (he should, though)! The first match is September 2 at 12 AM EST! My Round 2 votes are here.

KoopaTV's August Runthrough

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - This was the month we had Punch-Out!! week!

Summer is now over. It's September. It felt like it was just very recently I wrote the July version of this article. I did say summer (and free time) ending wouldn't stop the flow of content, so let's put that to the test.

Also, thanks to RockSoap, whoever he is, for submitting guest posting. Good! If you'd like to submit a guest post, check out the Guest Posts tab anytime.

But before you do that and before KoopaTV's content flow is put to any test, I'm going to recommend, in chronological order, the five articles I most highly recommend that were published in the month of August! And if you haven't noticed, I'm never going to put any articles that are just live logs in here.

  1. Toxic Movie-First Philosophies
  2. Ubisoft's Franchise-Only Philosophy — Unity Falls, Division Wins
  3. A dEAl With The DEVIL?
  4. Come PLAY Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!!
  5. In Defense of the 2DS!
All the articles on our site are, of course, worth reading! Especially the five Punch-Out!! week articles, because I could've honestly put all five of those as the five recommendations... instead of just two of them.

Covertly linking certain articles on certain places on the web have made for some striking view totals on those articles. Why not help the KoopaTV staff advertise? And be sure to Like us on our Facebook page, now finally with proper syntax! Remember, it's "KoopaTV"!
