Puzzle & Dragons Z Demo Impressions

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Was I in the right before?

After bad-mouthing the partnership between Nintendo and GungHo Online Interactive when it was first announced, it is time to try the Puzzle & Dragons games for the first time, first-hand, right now. Yes, Nintendo pushed a Nintendo 3DS notification alerting people that the demo for Puzzle & Dragons Z + Super Mario Bros. Edition. That's right. Two games, one demo. Free, and only 641 blocks on your Nintendo 3DS. 14 minute download!

Let's start with Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition since that's the one presented first.
...I guess you could consider this article a "live reaction", by the way.
"Win Bowser's baddies over to your side as you battle your way to Bowser's Castle to rescue Princess Peach!"
I'm reusing this from the previous article.

While transcribing that in-game description it automatically pressed "A" and brought me to the "title". There are Intro (Mario) and Expert (Luigi), but Luigi is greyed out.

Apologies in advance: Since it's a demo, I can't go to Miiverse and get pictures of my progress. Deal with text.

So, like Pokémon Shuffle, the stylus is used to drag icons on the lower-screen to have certain themed dudes attack. Except here, you have your own hit points counter, while in Shuffle only the enemy has hit points. Of course, there are combo chains as well. Let's see what happens when I try!

Open World Perils

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - You may have liked what you saw last week, but it only makes us more worried.

For yet another Nintendo video presentation, KoopaTV's staff ended up pretty miffed by it. Please don't take away our Nintendo fan badges! It just happened that way.

So we have something against Xenoblade Chronicles X. It's not our kind of game. I mean, I think it's public knowledge now that we're not thrilled about the direction The Legend of Zelda Wii U is taking, either. I guess the thing about publishing our live reactions to seeing things is that you get our unfiltered, genuine views on game announcements. Yeah, so we're not into this whole open-world, character-creating Skyrim-like experience.

And we just want to warn people about the dangers of that sort of thing.

Konami is falling apart!?

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Scrumptiously volatile industry.

This is breaking stuff, but famed videogame company Konami (Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Yu-gi-Oh!) is blowing up. The company is unraveling.

Let's make sure we're all on the same page. Konami's Silent Hills collaboration project is cancelled. P.T., which was a promotional teaser for the game and also a horror game itself, is being removed from the PlayStation Network. Hideo Kojima is leaving the company after Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is released, leading many to believe that series is done. Plus, Konami's stocks are now voluntarily being removed from the New York Stock Exchange! (But being kept in the Japanese exchanges and London's.)

Konami delisted New York Stock Exchange removed P.T. cancelled Silent Hills fired Hideo Kojima
What is happening over at Konami?!

There is a lot to digest and there aren't many answers, though I'll try to address every point throughout this article. With regards to Silent Hills, it was a collaboration involving Kojima and without him around, it's sort of hard to work with that. P.T. is being removed because it existed to promote Silent Hills. Without Silent Hills, then Konami is fine leaving the PlayStation 4 without decent horror games. It's not being removed because Konami likes trying to make playing their games difficult. A lot of Nintendo fans seem very worried that Konami-published stuff will suddenly vanish from the Nintendo eShop, which is nonsense based off this information.

Robert E. Stoutland and Confederate Memorial Day

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Memorialising our... predecessors.

You might think this is weird, but KoopaTV's staff has been trying to do a lot of themed Pokémon stuff over the years. Like, "Have the eight 2012 Republican presidential candidates be the eight gym leaders and figure out their types." Or "What eight Pokémon are closest to Mega Man Robot Masters?" (Seriously, a Mega Man-Pokémon crossover is just so obvious.) (Also as obvious: One of the answers is Magmortar.)

Or, in this case, "What would be a representative Pokémon team for the Confederate States of America?"

Since Gen 5 was released with Pokémon Black and Pokémon White (their names had no bearing on our decisions), we definitely settled on Stoutland as Confederate general Robert E. Lee.

Robert E. Stoutland by Rawk.

Over the years, we got some other ideas for the other slots. Well, it turns out that long before I made the Confederate Flag out of Super Mario Bros. sprites, I actually requested another videogame representation of the flag. See below:

KoopaTV Live Reacts to Xenoblade Chronicles X Video Showcase April 24 2015

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Transsexual protagonists and Earth Day mechas.

How do you think KoopaTV's old-school gaming staff will respond to the very new-school, modern Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U? Well, Nintendo and its Nintendo Treehouse did a special video showcase and presentation for the game, showing off all sorts of aspects including beautiful environments, exploration, skipped cutscenes, and... flying mechas called Skells!

Conkers Don't Grow On Trees!

By RAWKHAWK2010 - ...figuratively speaking.

Y'all know what time it is? I'll tell you -- it's time to get Conk'd! Because today, for the first time in ten years, Conker T. Squirrel is getting another game. And not just a remake ala Conker: Live & Reloaded, but a canonical sequel and the third major chapter of the overarching Conker story following Conker's Pocket Tales and Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Enter Conker's Big Reunion, developed by Team Dakota via their game-creator tool Project Spark, which tells what exactly has become of Conker in the years since.

I like EarthBound as a game, not a destination

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - I'm hellbound, though.

I heard you dudes on Earth have this whole Earth Day thing set up by your local communists. I dunno if it's celebrated everywhere, but at least the United States does it and that's all that really matters.

However, I don't really give a damn. So let's talk about EarthBound instead, since it has the word Earth in it. It's either that, or Earthworm Jim.

New Business: Ludwig Painting

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - KoopaTV alone doesn't pay the bills.

I, Ludwig Von Koopa, am announcing a new business. I'd like to tell y'all at KoopaTV about it.

Since we monetised KoopaTV a year ago with our advertisement policy, KoopaTV has been struggling to make ends meet. So we opened up a store and manufacture on demand, which has pretty high cost of goods sold. Hard to make a living doing this kinda thing. So I'm looking at my skill set and want to be an enterprising individual rather than just a dude who is inheriting a whole kingdom.

Super Bell Subway Mario Kart 8 DLC course
Standing proud... a new era for painting companies.
Enter Ludwig Painting. That's right. It's a business. It gets bolded.

Ludwig Painting Mario Kart 8 business advertisement Von Koopa Super Bell Subway
Stylish logo, right?

I designed the logo myself. I decided to take Black Ninja Koopa to heart and wanted to appeal to the sensibilities of inner-city youth, who are an under-served population. They're ignored by the other companies, but Ludwig Painting is for everyone with an edge. You could also say I was inspired by famous painters like George Zimmerman and George W. Bush.

I've done a lot of visual art for KoopaTV before, and I'll continue to do so for KoopaTV. KoopaTV is just my "pro bono" work and not a client of Ludwig Painting. Totally separate entities, besides the whole "I'm advertising it here" thing.

Oh, yeah, we still want a dedicated Digital Graphics Producer for KoopaTV. I surely can't do it now with this new business to focus on!

I'm going all out with the advertisements. You might find my logo over at places like Super Bell Subway on your way to work.

If you want to be my client, check me out at www.ludwigpainting.com. Thanks!

Check out some of Ludwig's painting portfolio over at his DeviantART account here!

It turns out that Ludwig got his sister to join him in the company, and then got Wendy to join KoopaTV itself.
Ludwig is very pro-art because he runs multiple art businesses.

Play Free-To-Play Every Day

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - For hours. I'm an addict. Help.

You can observe a timeline on KoopaTV of my attitude and history with Free-to-Play gaming. I'll include it after the page break.

Basically, I am incredibly weak-minded. For over a year I've been blustering about how I will reject the free-to-play movement and its evils. Skip to today and the past week or two and I have been converted into a hapless victim, shelling out so much that I can barely afford the shell on my back.

Pokémon Rumble World microtransactions in-app purchases free-to-play in-game store ingame Poké Diamonds prices f2p
That's -$0.49, -$1.79, and then -$15.99 for a total of $18.27 spent.

Yes, I have officially spent money on a free-to-play game, Pokémon Rumble World.

More amiibo: Cards, Yarn, and Markets

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Got my slant rhyme.

If Nintendo thinks they will just replace amiibo with NFC-enabled cards and think people will be just as happy, they don't know their customers.

We've always been critical of Iwata's statements that they will have these NFC-enabled cards to replace amiibo, we just haven't written about it until now. The catalyst? The April 1 2015 Nintendo Direct. Specifically, the new Yoshi amiibo for Yoshi's Woolly World (made out of actual yarn unlike and not plastic)... and then an announcement that there are these near-field communication Animal Crossing cards. The difference is startling.

The Fresh Prince of Koopa Kingdom

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - This'll be on KoopaTV's second CD.

I am a prolific writer on KoopaTV, yeah, but I'm also the (...well, one of several) prince of Koopa Kingdom. With that comes RESPONSIBILITIES.

So I'm going to let you in on some of what that involves. ...KoopaTV helped make those responsibilities hard. And then I became a character in Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. 4, so I gotta keep making appearances with that!

Mewtwo Strikes Back... Against the IRS!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - My subversive fantasies...

April 15 is a significant day. For young Nintendo fans, it is a day of glory as them purchasing both Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U has paid off.

Mewtwo DLC Club Nintendo e-mail Super Smash Bros. For Wii U 3DS 4 code eShop
My 3DS code is still unused so it's redacted.

For the rest of the United States, it is a day of terror as the only ones being paid off are the thugs at the Internal Revenue Service. These are dangerous people that have a history of targeting innocent Americans with nasty audits. The proper path forward for America is to abolish the IRS and the tax code and replace it with the FAIRtax.

But in the meantime, we're left with Mewtwo and taxes. One thing that the United States does is that they tax United States citizens on income they have earned abroad, even if they're living abroad and have been taxed already by a foreign country. Sorta sucks, right? Well, as we all know, KoopaTV has its headquarters out in Sierra Leone yet the United States still taxes us for some reason. In fact, the IRS has targeted KoopaTV for whatever reason! Why would they do that? We don't even make money.

What will we do?! ...Maybe this new Mewtwo dude can help...

An Unbehooving Truth

By RAWKHAWK2010 - Footloose and fancy-free, will Fire Emblem ever be?

liked the gameplay well enough, I enjoyed the waifu chit-chat simulator, and despite being nowhere on the same wavelength as the Radiance Saga, I found the story and characters palatable. Fire Emblem: Awakening was an alright game, alright enough to score 123:55 hours in my Nintendo 3DS Activity Log and you had best believe that's no easy task (Shin Megami Tensei IV got less than one). But with that being said, the game isn't without its issues, and one that all of us at KoopaTV take great issue with is all the creative liberty taken with basic Fire Emblem character anatomy. One example is Ike having his arm replaced with a sword (hence KoopaTV christening this beast "Sword-Arm Ike"), but the true crisis is every in-game character losing their feet only for them to be replaced with...well, nothing.

Defeeted.

Silent Hillary

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - And now a campaign of true horror begins.

It is finally official, though very unsurprising: Hillary Rodham Clinton is the first Democrat Party member to formally announce their run for president!

This comes after Rand Paul (I endorsed him in this article) made his announcement for president last week. Marco Rubio is supposed to be coming today but no one really cares about him.

So, let's hear straight from the candidate! I embedded Rand's speech in his article, so let's have Hillary say her fair share.

...Wait, what? She didn't make a speech? Her official announcement was silently in the forme of a Twitter update, making a website, and... this trailer?

This trailer is awful, woah. But... who cares? It's from Hillary Clinton! What difference, at this point, does it make? Well, more Hillary analysis to follow.

Jareditton presents: Let's Play Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - A champion Let's Play for a champion game.

KoopaTV has been asking for a while, and we've finally gotten it: The PC Game of the Year 2013 has a Let's Play on YouTube! It's Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!!, playable here right on KoopaTV in your browser for free

Presented by a YouTuber named Jareditton. Maybe subscribe to him, because based off what KoopaTV watched of his channel (only the Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!! stuff), the kid actually is a master artist. On our level. The best way to see why is to watch his Let's Play of Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!!, embedded across three videos below!

They're hilarious not only because of the source material, but because of him. See below the page-break for the videos! (Putting a page-break here so cleaner loading of the main page!)

200cc — Death of F-Zero?

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Captain Falcon usurped by a punk plumber.

An unfortunate non-Kamek (he's really alive!) casualty from the April 1 Direct (see our live-reactions here) is the F-Zero series, which continues to be regularly mocked and denied a sequel by Mario Kart 8 and that plumber's producer, Shigeru Miyamoto.

First Miyamoto said that there was no direction to take a new F-Zero game, to the concern of fans. Then Miyamoto stated that the only way a new F-Zero would be made is if Nintendo would make a new controller for it, because a normal controller apparently isn't good enough for the series, despite what F-Zero GX players think. And, hey, Nintendo is probably never going to do that, so whatever. The only one of those in the near-future seems to be a smartphone, so "A-Hundred" for a mobile device not near you might still be in the works.

Otherwise, Nintendo hasn't totally forgotten about Captain Falcon and friends. Look!

Captain Falcon Mii amiibo Mario Kart 8 compatibility
To Miyamoto, Miis are a satisfactory replacement for characters.

This naturally segues into what was recently announced as coming to Mario Kart 8 in two weeks whether you want it or not, as tends to be the pattern for its DLC. Take that!

Cure the Virtual Console of YIDS

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Embarrassing and dangerous.

KoopaTV has to worry about getting Ebola whenever we visit our office, and now Wii U users will have to worry about getting YIDS.

This virus-like videogame, scientifically known as Yoshi's Island DS, has already infected other games such as Yoshi's New Island and Mario Super Sluggers. And now it threatens the entire Wii U Virtual Console library since it is the flagship title for the Virtual Console's DS game service, with Super Mario 64 representing the Nintendo 64 one.

Yoshi's Island DS Super Mario 64 Virtual Console Nintendo announcement
YIDS is not worth $10.

It's not only the flagship title, but it's the only title, though that will change in a few hours on April 9 with Yoshi Touch & Go and WarioWare Touched!. That means if you want to see the DS Virtual Console for yourself before then, you'll have to get YIDS.

For more information on why YIDS is a bad thing to catch, click this article which is misinformed about everything besides YIDS

I Stand With Rand

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - The first candidate endorsement from KoopaTV.

America has a problem. The prescription? Rand Paul.

Dr. Rand Paul, with his experience as an eye doctor, has a vision for America.

(Also, since I'm apparently blind, having an eye doctor is pretty nice. Dude even has an eye chart.

Rand Paul announces his run for president in 2016
"Thanks for the endorsement, Ludwig!"

KoopaTV has very different political opinions among our staffers, but it hasn't been a secret that my preference has been for Rand Paul. The other staffers can endorse whoever they want, but my endorsement is for Rand.

You can watch his announcement speech here:

KoopaTV and Rand Paul have a lot in common. We both support freedom and we're both contrarian to the folks in power. KoopaTV ain't the establishment, and Rand certainly ain't either. Along with that, Rand ain't a censorship kind of guy. He's not afraid to make enemies (he's attracting attacks from both Democrats and Republicans) because he goes out to tell the Truth. And, hey, I wager he has some Levity in him too.

I suppose it doesn't matter what I say... until August 6, 2015. That's the first debate!

Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are the only candidates in either party to formally and officially be presidential candidates. Of those two, Rand is definitely the best guy. He doesn't look like a crook, so that's a big plus!

Ludwig Von Koopa Rand Paul for President
"Okay... DR RAND PAUL FOR PRESIDENT... uh... Defeat... the...dangit I can't see."
One caveat:
“The message of liberty, opportunity and justice is for all Americans, whether you wear a suit, a uniform or overalls,”
If those are blue overalls against a red shirt worn by a guy with a red cap and mustache, then "justice" for those people should involve locking them up and trying them for genocide.

KoopaTV will keep you somewhat up-to-date on political going-ons, but for the dedicated political version of KoopaTV, see our sister station at CainTV.

By comparison, KoopaTV staff member Rawk stands with all manner of dudes named Phil.
The first debate is actually August 6. Sorry.
Even though Ludwig personally supports Rand, could KoopaTV as a whole be supporting another guy? A certain loudmouth?
Rand Paul provided some life lessons in a so-called “Rand Direct”.
While KoopaTV declined to endorse a candidate for the primaries, KoopaTV endorsed Donald Trump for the general election.

There is Post-Mewtwo DLC. Ludwig apologises.

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - I should stop proclaiming things.

Back in the day, Nintendo released the Super Smash Bros. For Wii U 50-Fact Extravaganza. In the live-reaction during that event, after Mewtwo DLC was revealed for the first time, I stated,

"Or [people getting their hopes up for more characters] could face reality.
And accept that Mewtwo is [the only DLC character].
I'll write a formal apology article if I'm wrong."
Frustratingly enough, as revealed on the April 1 2015 Direct, Mewtwo is NOT the only DLC character. EVEN THOUGH THIS DIRECTLY CONTRADICTS WHAT SAKURAI SAID EARLIER ABOUT NOT WORKING ON PAID DLC!

Yes, there is Lucas returning from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. And there is also this "Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot" that KoopaTV is going to talk much more about later in the week or coming weeks.

True to my word, I formally apologise. You do not have to face reality. You can now watch any Nintendo-made event and anticipate a new Super Smash Bros. 4 DLC announcement. ...And you can now be sure that Masahiro Sakurai is not getting a day off anytime soon. Remember: He hasn't gotten that vacation for his busted limbs!

Announcing KoopaTV BLK™

By BLACK NINJA KOOPA - It's about ethnics in video-game journalism.

As most of you probably don't know, since I'm guessing the main audience for this place are people too young to know better (plus it's something I don't really like to talk about these days), yours truly was a member of Koopa Keep -- you know, that mid-2000's NSider gig ran by the same dudes who frequent these parts. ...Or the ones who are still alive, anyway, namely Ludwig Von Koopa (the boss), Kamek Koopa (the adviser), and that "RawkHawk2010" guy, who I can barely remember but have always felt something of a...dreamy spiritual connection with. (Huh.) Anyway, it appears all of the other Koopa Keepians, even my dear brother Red Ninja Koopa, eventually all had various existential crises and are now six feet under the cold, cold ground. (Either that, or they've become integrated into various communities that KoopaTV has been eternally blacklisted from, but hey, tomayto tomahto.)

So why am I here, after give-or-take ten years? Well the deal is that KoopaTV, for quite some time now, has been facing issues in the area of cultural diversity and I've been summoned to offer my expertise. In fact, that's precisely what I've been up to all this time -- traveling the lands, having various important talks with various important folk, all in an effort to make this existence more palatable for the most under-appreciated, most under-privileged, and most under-represented class of dude there is. I, of course, am referring to black folk.

KoopaTV's March 2015 Review Newsletter

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Plus an update and an answer.

We will go back to regularly scheduled videogame commentary next week. With that Nintendo Direct yesterday, well, damn, there is a ton to discuss there.

Speaking of yesterday, while we legitimately did make an account on Myspace, we are not going to legitimately update it. It was made for the sole purpose of yesterday's article.

So let's look at March 2015. It was the first month on KoopaTV where the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program was implemented! However, this current Round goes to the end of May, so there is still plenty of time to get into the action! The standings as of publishing (which you can check in real-time at any time here) are:
  1. Martino X — 29 points
  2. Samantha Lienhard — 11 points
  3. Ringabel Brave — 10 points
  4. Anthony Shaffer — 7 points
  5. And everyone else who is below that.
Only the top 3 actually get any prizes! You may see the... gap between #1 and #2 and be scared, but Mr. X ain't playing the Loyalty Rewards Program optimally. If you were to just begin now and play optimally, you could actually overtake him within two weeks time! Then you can win Club Nintendo rewards and eShop stuff. I have a $10 eShop card on my desk just waiting for Round 3 in July!

Speaking of Club Nintendo, we created a scavenger hunt at the end of March to give out the Fire Emblem: Awakening PIN redemption code. (As of publishing, I still have not played the game.)

SO! ANSWER!

KoopaTV's Live Reactions to Splatoon Treehouse and Nintendo Direct April 1 2015 Processing

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Splatoon but... we have a lot to process on what we just watched.

Nintendo is not done showing us new content. This live reaction log continues right where the previous one left off that was the April 1, 2015 Nintendo Direct.

KoopaTV Conquers Myspace!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - We're getting the conversations going with more and more social media.

Since we lost the social media accounts created when Noxial became our social media manager (since she, you know, became a terrorist or something), we have a void to fill. This is similar to how our Facebook got shutdown and we opened an Ello account and a tumblr to try to replace it. (Net result? ...We still miss Facebook.)

Well, screw that! We're looking at more of Facebook's competitors, so we are proud to formally announce that we have a Myspace account.

KoopaTV Myspace account
You can listen to Shell-Spangled Banner.

"Ludwig, what are you thinking?" Well, did you know that, according to Myspace, Myspace has 50 million users coming there every month? Imagine if we got a fraction of that coming to KoopaTV!

Myspace proves their doubters wrong, and so do we at KoopaTV. So we think it's a natural fit. Myspace nowadays is all about artists, and we at KoopaTV see our over 500 articles as art (our regular commentary included, not just our amazing Artistic Corner).

So, first thing that happened when we went to make an account?

Facebook Twitter advertisement when making Myspace account
You see the Facebook logo before you even know what Myspace's logo is.

Okay, that's weird. The whole point of making a Myspace is that it's not Facebook. They're supposed to be competitors!

Now, let's look at their Terms. Always a good idea when going somewhere. Myspace claims no ownership rights to any content posted there. Great! (Neither does Nintendo on Miiverse.) These terms are pretty adorable and they even explain some legalese to you in plain English, which is cute and something I haven't seen other Terms of Usages do. And then there is this:
"To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, as a reasonable estimation of such harm, you agree to pay Myspace Fifty Dollars ($50) for each actual or intended recipient of such unsolicited Message or other unauthorized commercial communication you send through the Myspace Services;"
That means if you advertise on Myspace or try to sell something (check out the KoopaTV Store!), you have to pay Myspace $50. Think that's stupid? Then don't sign the terms and don't use Myspace. But for us at KoopaTV, their terms provide ideas on how to monetise our lovely corner of the Internet.

So, check out the KoopaTV Myspace. You will probably regret it, but it's going to be joining our impressive line-up of social media accounts.

You know, with all these social media accounts to handle, we're gonna need a social media manager who isn't planning to join ISIS on our staff! If you think you fit the bill, apply here!

KoopaTV is going to make its Myspace its space. If you have a Myspace too, be sure to "connect" with KoopaTV! You can find a list of KoopaTV's social media accounts in our Contact Us page.
