Ask Capcom to Port Ace Attorney Investigations 2!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Fan petition! Whoo!

We would like to formalize our support, our demand, that Capcom bring Ace Attorney Investigations 2 to North America. I wrote in a previous article that
"I do think Ace Attorney Investigations 2 has the chance to be localized. It depends on us."
And I maintain that. Look at this Facebook event. Do what it says. It applies to July 1.

In the past, I've also written,
"And if Dual Destinies sells, then we can get Ace Attorney Investigations 2 in America! Oh, how sweet that would be! The first game in that spin-off series apparently did poorly, but Capcom is willing to give us another chance!"
Dual Destinies did sell. It met the lofty expectations. It should also sell more since it's a great game.

Also, one of the earliest guest posters here at KoopaTV (here's a plug for guest-posting at KoopaTV!) identified Ace Attorney Investigations 2 coming to America as one of the things I want the most.

It's high time I get to know who those dudes on the right of Kay Faraday are.

Now that I've briefly gone over my past wanting of Ace Attorney Investigations 2, (and you can just search "Ace Attorney" in the search-bar there to see how much representation we've given the series on KoopaTV), it's time for you to help and look up at the big words above. It's said to be one of the best Ace Attorney games. It's only on DS in Japan. We'd be fine with it on eShop, on 3DS, in America. Or Wii U. (Or both.)

There's a fan translation out there, buuuuut I want this done by Capcom. Legally. I want to give them my money. You should too. So on July 1, tell Capcom you want this!

/v/ Vs. NeoGAF: Chaos Vs. Order

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - We're siding with 4chan, of course.

I haven't talked about the famous image board 4chan at all on KoopaTV, besides when I said the inspiration for Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!! came from there. I have talked about NeoGAF a lot, though. (Apparently not enough to fill that whole sentence with links, though.)

So /v/, one of the sections of 4chan and one of a few dedicated to videogames (parts of 4chan are safe for work, including /v/ which is linked, and parts of it are not, such as the infamous /b/), has been doing some admirable things lately. These include two cards to Nintendo, pictured below. Meanwhile, NeoGAF continues to be the self-important cesspool of non-compassionate "tolerant" fascism.

Videogame Vulgarity

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - You'd expect me to swear in this header. You'd be wrong.

Artistic expression is the number one reason KoopaTV takes a lot of the stances it takes. So one day, a KoopaTV reader (or maybe a random dude who won't actually read this) asked that I share my thoughts about swearing in videogames. Sure.

Long story short: I'm okay with it, as long as we're properly notified about the content of the game beforehand. And fortunately, we are, since the ESRB exists. The ESRB has four content descriptors relating to profanity:
  • Language - Mild to moderate use of profanity
  • Lyrics - Mild references to profanity, sexuality, violence, alcohol or drug use in music
  • Strong Language - Explicit and/or frequent use of profanity
  • Strong Lyrics - Explicit and/or frequent references to profanity, sex, violence, alcohol or drug use in music
Now for the long story.

Parents' Role In Purchases Of Videogames

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - If it isn't the role of parents, then who is it?

KoopaTV's campaign to have Nintendo change their ESRB eShop policy to allow users under 17, with parental permission, to digitally download M-rated games
runs on an important assumption: Parents should be the ones making decisions about what their children play. That's not a far-fetched assumption, right?

Well, according to the disturbing left-wing statists at MSNBC, children do not belong to their parents. They belong to the collective. If this was true, then the responsibility over children does not belong to parents; it belongs to the nebulous "community." Children turn into something everyone owns, a public good to be exploited by whoever. And when everyone owns something, then no one does. There's no accountability.

I don't think Nintendo subscribes to this collectivist view. Or, if they do, they don't want to show it. That's why they offer a robust set of parental controls. The ESRB itself says,
The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is the non-profit, self-regulatory body that assigns ratings for video games and apps so parents can make informed choices. The ESRB rating system encompasses guidance about age-appropriateness, content, and interactive elements.

Mission

To empower consumers, especially parents, with guidance that allows them to make informed decisions about the age-appropriateness and suitability of video games and apps while holding the video game industry accountable for responsible marketing practices.
See that? Parents. However, Joindots might think a bit differently about who should be making these decisions when I contacted them as per the campaign in the first paragraph.

Axe-Arm Largo!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Technology or hideous character design? You decide!

With Ike in Super Smash Bros. 4, I'm pretty happy. Even happier is that he's in his form from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and not the ghastly sight of him from Fire Emblem: Awakening.

But the entity we call Sword-Arm Ike is actually a technological marvel, isn't he? We shouldn't insult dudes with prosthetic weaponry. Ike is a war hero, and thousands of war heroes come home from the battlefield needing amputations. Or maybe they got amputated while in battle. So it's a miracle that Ike can still be a warrior despite his grievous injuries.

Unfortunately, not everyone has access to the top-quality healthcare that General Ike got. Largo, a bartender peasant from Crimea in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, was a reckless axe-using Berserker unit. In between that game and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (a span of three years), he had lost his arm in an accident.

No arm? Big problem. For now.

As such, he was the only unit from Path of Radiance to not be usable in Radiant Dawn. We at KoopaTV think everyone should have access to quality healthcare, and so we worked with expert Tellius surgeons to bring Ike's Sword-Arm treatment to Largo, and grant him a prosthetic axe.

Largo from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance with an axe arm.
Presenting: Axe-Arm Largo!

We're proud to have given Largo a new chance in life. Even though Intelligent Systems did not announce a new Fire Emblem game at E3 2014 (electing instead for announcing a new IP, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.), if one ever revisiting Tellius happens, Largo can be there!

Herman Cain's Burning Answer

By RAWKHAWK2010 - It's never easy when there's so much on the line.

Following a draining E3 week which contained no sign of King K. Rool in Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and every sign of fucking PAC-MAN, I thought my life was ruined for at the least the next three months. That is, until former presidential hopeful (and still-current entertainer) Herman Cain decided to drop by my new town. (That's right, I didn't go to him -- he came to me!)

And during the "rapid fire" segment of his nationally-syndicated radio show, I asked him what any concerned young man would:

(5:33)

Lo and behold; Cain finally gives his much-anticipated answer to America's much-contemplated question, with Toad (now a Tea Partier?) even screaming in joy about it. (6:05)

And if precious knowledge, an awkward handshake, and props from the mayor weren't already enough, I even walked away with an autograph! (Which, in a stunning instance of hitting two legendary birds with one stone, endorses both my question and Cain's oh-so-coveted gold standard.)

E3 2014 Winners and Losers

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - You won't be surprised.

Here at KoopaTV, we think the notion of "console wars" is outdated and childish. Since we're mature, progressive adults, we'll say the gamers won. What a great time to be in this industry!

...Just kidding.

In order from best-to-worst, with their main event live reaction log linked:
  1. Nintendo
  2. Microsoft
  3. Sony
  4. Ubisoft
  5. Electronic Arts
"Hey, KoopaTV, I can't take you seriously because you're biased for Nintendo!"

You're right. So I'll quickly go over everything else.

A Look Forward To E3 2015!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - June 16-18 2015.

How long can we stall until publishing our conclusive thoughts on E3 2014 and each company's presentations? ...I'm not sure.

The Entertainment Software Association has announced that E3 2015 will take place June 16-18 2015 in the Los Angeles Convention Center. Also known as, "the third Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday" of June 2015. Why the third week of June and not the second like this year? Beats me.

KoopaTV would like to make clear our stance against coastal elitists, especially those in California, one of the worst states in the United States (and arguably the worst). Thus, we've been wondering for a while, "Why does E3 keep taking place in Los Angeles?" At one point, it was in Georgia. That was nice.

Well, they have had contracts with the Los Angeles Convention Center for a while that lock them in there. But now their contract is expiring in 2015. And the ESA's president has stuff to say about it.
"E3 is a world class show that deserves a world class venue, [...] The Los Angeles Convention Center is no longer a top-tier property."

The World Snub: EA's World-Class Trolling

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - FIFA 15 almost everywhere in the world except Wii U.

One day, we hope there will be a time when Nintendo and Electronic Arts will get along. KoopaTV will never forgive EA for their evil actions, but maybe Nintendo will find it in their heart. Or, to be more grounded in reality, EA will end whatever petty thing they have against Nintendo.

Until then, we'll continue to report instances of passive-aggression like the new information about FIFA 15's console availability. Take it away, Eurogamer:

"There's the shiny PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of course, the ones EA has been publicly demoing and which we've played.
But there's also last-gen versions for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, handheld versions for 3DS and PlayStation Vita, and even a version for Wii."
They then pointed out the lack of a Wii U version, along with, for the first time since 2000, no PlayStation 2 version. Okay, let's talk about it. Just a little bit.

Capcom Is Not For Sale!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Misinformation spreads! (But it would be cool if they were cheap...)

All of a sudden, out of nowhere, the Internet was abuzz with clickbait article titles: Capcom is for sale! And Nintendo should buy it! It reminds me of when Atlus was for sale. KoopaTV informally was hoping for Nintendo to buy them.

Wait, wait, let's step back a bit. After all, the title of this is that Capcom is NOT for sale. Very recently, Capcom announced that they wouldn't renew their takeover defense tactics that they've been doing for a bit. In layman's terms, that means that if some entity gets over 50% of a publicly traded (like Capcom) company's shares in the stock market, they have control over that company. Capcom, up to now, had strategies to prevent that from happening or to dissuade it from happening.

One of the tactics out there is called the "poison pill." So obviously I took the image from Google with the unrelated ObamaCare reference.

Ludwig's Smash-Fest @ Best Buy Experience 2014

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Fun game. Fun times, too.

Here is what y'all have been waiting for: I played Super Smash Bros. 4 at the Smash-Fest @ Best Buy. And it's great. I played as Bowser twice on Wednesday on the Wii U version, and then left. I played as Bowser once on the 3DS version on Saturday, and once on the Wii U version on Saturday. And that's all I got to play.

We got to Best Buy around 2:30 on Wednesday (1.5 hours early) and played at around 4:30.
Got to Best Buy around 10:50 on Saturday (1.16 hours early) and played at 1:10.
But the experience wasn't just the games!

E3 Week 2014 Is Over...

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - But our coverage will last for a few more days.

I'll be taking down that E3 Week banner down and replacing it with the standard KoopaTV banner. E3 Week is over.

However, we still have a few things left to cover. Like the events that transpired today, and the Smash-Fest @ Best Buy. There are some surprises left, too. On KoopaTV's part. The videogame publishers are done.

In the coming days (we're taking the weekend off), we'll publish those things, and our thoughts on E3 this year.

To make this not a complete filler, here's a teaser:

KoopaTV has been proud to be your place for E3 2014 coverage. We hope to be your place for our regular videogame commentary in other times of the year! This is our 300th published article, and the majority of these articles are hard-hitting commentary. Browse around!

Treehouse Live: Yoshi's Woolly World

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - With plenty of adorable screenshots.

I don't know where everyone else on our staff is, but I don't need them. A picture is a 1,000 words (and some amount of meta-data), and Tezuka-san, working on Yoshi's Woolly World, was on Nintendo Treehouse Live. He brought some design screenshots! We got 'em.

Glass bead Yoshi!
A lot of other designs! Is that a sheep?
And more, if you look on.

Treehouse Live: Smash 4 Wii U, 3DS, and Reggie

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Footage of both Smash Bros.

It's still just me here. We got Super Smash Bros. 4 on both 3DS and Wii U. Reggie appears midway for some brief comments. Let's go. Screenshots throughout the article, including two new/improved final smashes from Donkey Kong and Luigi!

Doc Louis appears!

Treehouse Live: Fantasy Life & Code Name S.T.E.A.M.

It's just me here. I got reactions. They're nothing special. But I got some pictures. They're throughout the article. Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3. Watch it yourself here.

Here's a creepy-looking hand.

E3 2014 Dev. Roundtable: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Non-streamed steam.

So we had another roundtable tonight. Intelligent Systems has a new Nintendo IP: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.. That's a pain to write out, so let's start the reaction log.

Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties in our [Koopa Keep] AIM Blast. Not AIM's fault. AIM is perfect. Anyway, I'm Nintendork 13 13, Rawk is Rawk. ...But he kinda doesn't show up. For a while. Due to technical difficulties.

KoopaTV-enemy Abraham Lincoln is a main character in the game. (This is not what it looks like.)
...This is what it looks like. We think Lincoln is the dude on the right.
So I don't recommend even reading this. Just my professional opinion.

Treehouse Live: Smash 4 + Reggie's Appearance — Wednesday 2014

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Reggie and some other notables.

Hey. I'm back from Best Buy to watch Nintendo's stream. I'll write about that later because there's a lot to say there. For now, I got some live-reactions. I'm Nintendork 13 13, and Rawk is also here.

Ken is astounded.

Wii Fit Trainer wins!

Smart Bombs!

Live Reaction to: PAC-MAN IN SMASH 4!

The final Tuesday event for Nintendo and Super Smash Bros. 4... it's... Pac-Man being revealed by Masahiro Sakurai! I'm Nintendork 13 13, Rawk is himself, and Ryudragon29 is a friend of ours but a random guy to you.

We're inclined to agree.

Palutena-Kirby? Great. THIS? Ruined.

Shigeru Miyamoto has taken the stage in Nintendo Treehouse Live. He has three projects to discuss: "Giant Robot", "Project Guard", and a new Star Fox game on Wii U...
