The Widely Agreed Upon Travesty of White Chocolate Winning the Favorite Chocolate Splatfest

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - A lot of people have a lot of problems.

Last weekend, many, many (and with over ten million copies sold, likely hundreds of thousands or millions) of Inklings and Octolings across the Splatlands portrayed in Splatoon 3 participated in a Splatfest. This Splatfest had asked, “What's your favorite chocolate?” I wrote why I supported Team Milk Chocolate. I discussed milk chocolate being a great ingredient with a good flavour profile, while dark chocolate is too bitter. White chocolate was out of the question for me, since I deemed it to be an intellectually dishonest option. Unfortunately, the Splatfest ended in an “outcome [that] was ultimately unjustifiable and horrible[.]” Team White Chocolate won in a landslide.

If there was a category, Team White Chocolate won it.

This result caused a lot of outrage and no one I talked to expected it. I'll get into why or how this result was possible (and still undeserved) at the end of the article, but until we get to the end, I actually collected a lot of... feedback on the result. In fact, Team White Chocolate winning this Splatfest stirred up the passions of so many people that I got a lot of folks who haven't done anything related to KoopaTV before to create content for the site, based on their discontent for white chocolate. Here are their stories and thoughts, presented as I received them but edited for basic grammar and spelling:

Sukkot-Celebrating Sirfetch'd Secured Four Species

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - If there were six, it'd be full alliteration. However, four allows for something greater.

Remember Sirfetch'd from Pokémon Sword? Sirfetch'd has been making a big impression as a member of Ash “The Twerp” Ketchum's team in the Pokémon World Championships going on in Japan right now. But between Sirfetch'd last major fight (where he made a major impression... I'm not spoiling it, but trust me) and the next one starting at the end of this week, there was a five-week gap. Why was that?

It's because Sirfetch'd is actually a practicing Jewish Wild Duck, and since the end of September to about now have been the Jewish High Holidays, and Sirfetch'd doesn't work during that time. Of particular importance and deep meaning to Sirfetch'd is Sukkot, which features, among other things, waving around and praying with four species of plants under a temporary physical structure that it's dwelled in. (As opposed to a Poké Ball.)

Sirfetch'd Pokémon Jewish Sukkot Lulav Etrog citrus palm willow myrtle four species
Credit to ShinyGirafarig for depicting Sirfetch'd holding the lulav and etrog.
Sirfetch'd has traded its normal leek and leaf shield for those.
(The lulav is the new leek, and the etrog is the new shield.)

What does this actually mean? Well, Jewish tradition has a lot of lore and world-building to it. I'll share just some of it with you, particularly what the four species mean (according to one interpretation of the lore).

Enjoy This Cute Wooloo Drawing by Momo

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - ♥

My photos of my new, sweet, adorable Wooloo plushie have made the rounds in the Pokémon community. I feel quite honoured to report that they have inspired other people to also create art of Wooloo. This sketch comes from an artist named Momo. She specifically asked me to publish her work on KoopaTV. Obviously I welcome that, so take a good look at the woolly adorable Sheep Pokémon:

Wooloo, by Momo.

Fun fact: Wooloo's name in French is Moumouton, which is pronounced “Moo moo ton”. Not only is this a great name because anything with “moo” is likely adorable, but Momo's own name is almost similar to it. There's some fate there.

There is also fate in that you will love Wooloo. KoopaTV staffer Kamek described this Wooloo as “unnaturally handsome”. As for Momo, she doesn't have any contact information she'd like to share, or other works she'd like to advertise. But Momo will be watching this KoopaTV comments section, so... this is the place for letting her know what you think of her Wooloo art. Maybe you have requests for more artwork?

Momo and her Wooloo drawing won KoopaTV's 2020 Best Guest Article Contributor and Best Guest Art Article awards!

Fire Emblem: Three Houses Released; Dorothea Is Pretty Cute

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Convince me to buy Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

There are people out there who, having never really played a Fire Emblem game before, are looking at the just-released-today Fire Emblem: Three Houses for Nintendo Switch and are asking if they should buy the game.

I'm in another house. I've played several Fire Emblem games, but I'm still asking the same question: should I buy Fire Emblem: Three Houses?

I'm a total elitist for the two Tellius games, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. I adore their collective story (plot-line and themes, which I still reference at least as of two weeks ago), lore, characters, deep gameplay, great music, and even replay value. Within the past month, I just played through Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for at least the 8th time, and I'm suddenly eager to replay Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn as well. (For the fourth and a half time.)

Alternatively, I could just go and buy Fire Emblem: Three Houses. But I'm concerned. I loathe Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates. When people tell me that they saved the franchise and I should be grateful for that, I think that's a stupid thing to say because the franchise would be better off dead than with those games in it, and there hasn't been anything in the series worth the life support. Could Fire Emblem: Three Houses reverse that?

I'm on record saying things like, “Speaking of no buy, here's Fire Emblem: Three Houses.” As well as “Every new news about the Fire Emblem series makes me believe that the Fire Emblem game on the Switch, which will be the first new Fire Emblem game to be on a home console in a decade, will be more like Fire Emblem Awakening (but in high-definition!) than the grandiose and actually amazing Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.” You can't forget “I've left the Fire Emblem series for dead, so screw Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It's UGLY.”

But you know what or who isn't ugly? Dorothea. She's one of the students in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, specifically in the Black Eagle house. In fact, she's pretty. And cute. And I requested fan-art of her. ...And my request was granted. Take a look:

Eclipse 2017—In The Path of Totality!

By VANESSA TSUKINO - It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event!

You may recall the huge excitement about this year’s coast-to-coast solar eclipse! But were YOU in the path of totality? Were you one of unlucky ones who saw it on a livestream? Well have no fear! This girl’s got you covered.

Let me start off by saying that where I live was one of the places in the path of totality for the eclipse. That’s where the moon completely covers the sun, and you can remove those special viewing glasses for a short period of time to take photos or whatever. Anyway, people from all over had traveled here just to see this thing, since there were many places to view it!

I'm near the fourth star shown here.

And of course, they also traveled to the other places in the path.

This past Friday I received these glasses at school:
