A Mario Allegedly Conspired Against George Zimmerman

I would like this article to serve as a contrast to yesterday's very pro-plaintiff article. I'm definitely not for every time someone sues another person for the person initiating the lawsuit. KoopaTV is filled with articles about baseless lawsuits against videogame companies for matters like getting them addicted, and how we're on the side of the company. (Most recently with some Canadian family suing about Fortnite being addictive.)

You might've heard that George Zimmerman—which KoopaTV has an embarrassing history with because mid-2014 and early 2015 had nothing better happening—is suing a lot of people for a lot of money, including the family of Trayvon Martin, who he killed in self-defence back in 2013. (And was found not guilty in his Ace Attorney-esque trial, a verdict we still support.) He's also suing the prosecutors, the state of Florida, and others.

You can read the court filing for yourself here. It features a fascinating theory from George Zimmerman, being that the prosecution from his 2013 case conspired against him and put Rachel Jeantel, described in the filing as an unemployed Florida citizen (who back in 2013, was an 18-year old ninth grader reading at a fourth grade level and was the number one tardy student in school) as “an imposter and fake witness” in place of her half-sister, Brittany Diamond Eugene, who was Trayvon Martin's true girlfriend and phone witness to his death.

The conspirators behind this swap are described as Trayvon's best friends (described as possibly dangerous and gangster-y), named Mario and Bramble.

Mario? Here? Wouldn't surprise me.

The reason the lawsuit is happening now is because the prosecutor in the 2013 case, Benjamin Crump and HarperCollins published a new book in October with the inflammatory title, Open Season: Legalized Genocide of Colored People, and it contains false information about George Zimmerman. Thus, he felt compelled to sue for defamation... for $100,000,000.00, as well as attorney's fees.

The claims in this lawsuit about the imposter witness are largely due to the new investigation done by filmmaker Joel Gilbert, whom Wikipedia notes as a right-wing conspiracy theorist. They claims are not proven (or disproven), but hey, that'll be what court is for.

Assuming this case isn't totally thrown out by the judge like the last time Zimmerman tried to sue for defamation, that time being NBC. Quite frankly, I don't inherently believe George Zimmerman's claim here. I mean, if it's true, then he should be entitled to damages. It's not like he has any other method of having a future, since the case also notes he's unemployable, under constant death threats, and can't maintain a date. (That date was also a Mario fan... he keeps coming up, doesn't he?)


If you look at KoopaTV's history of ZimmermanTV articles, you should note that this site's opinion of George Zimmerman slowly goes from “he's a hero” to “this guy is a dangerous lunatic in an endless loop of doing stupid things for attention.” This latest theory sounds like a Phoenix Wright bluff, so that might mean it's actually true! Though it's never made clear what anyone had to gain from having the half-sister be an imposter.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Verson 3.1.0 Released: Virtual Reality, amiibo Journeys, Pichu Nerfed!

Sometimes I like to write hard-hitting editorials on the pressing gaming issues of the day, and I have a backlog of those to talk about. Other times, I geek out over patch notes. This article is more of the latter, though I get that's probably not why you come to KoopaTV. I'll be sure to litter this article with references to other things if that's what'll keep you amused.

Anyway, tonight version 3.1.0 of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch dropped, with a variety of new features. Chief among them, unfortunately, is compatibility with the demonic Nintendo Labo VR Kit, which has the boring and disorienting feature of letting you move the camera around during play. Here's the official Nintendo video about it:
 

You may remember that Nintendo invented the Nintendo Labo VR Kit to try to make virtual reality more fun and social. I'm pleased to report that the VR mode is a single-player experience only, thus rendering it not social in addition to not fun. Great work.

Genius Prosecutor Reveals Crooked Attorney

(LOS ANGELES, California) Mere hours ago at the Los Angeles District courthouse, Courtroom No. 7, there was a stunning outcome in the trial of Zak Gramarye (40), a member of the famous magician group Troupe Gramarye. Mr. Gramarye had been accused of murdering the sickly head of the Troupe, Magnifi Gramarye (67), in order to have the rights of his magic.

After noon local time, Zak Gramarye's defence attorney, Phoenix Wright (~26), had presented a critical piece of evidence implicating Zak's fellow troupe member, Valant Gramarye (37), for the murder—a missing page from Magnifi's diary. Upon presenting the evidence, the prosecutor in the case, young 17-year old fresh-out-of-law-school Klavier Gavin, asked for the trial to move to closed doors away from public viewing.

When the trial reconvened, the Judge was ready to call a verdict, but Zak Gramarye vanished from the courthouse and is still on the loose. Thus, no verdict was declared.

Turnabout Job Interview, and Lindsey Graham & Adrian Andrews

We have been mesmerised by the activities of the United States Senate Judiciary Committee and the confirmation process of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, especially the hearing yesterday featuring him and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford. To back up, near the start of July, President Donald John Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the United States Court of Appeals for the Washington DC circuit to replace retiring Supreme Court justice Anthony Kennedy's Supreme Court seat — a normally lifetime position. He's extremely qualified, and a conservative Republican. Naturally, the resistance Democrats want to oppose his nomination, since they disagree with his judicial philosophy.

What has followed are a series of increasingly incredible but non-credible accusations of sexual assault and rape from women, going back 36 years ago to Brett Kavanaugh's high school days. Brett Kavanaugh has denied all of them. Christine Blasey Ford was the only one of these accusers that even the desperate Democrats considered credible, and so we have the following case...

President Donald John Trump is a nasty man. He's responsible for KoopaTV going from five articles a week to three... However, like his predecessor, whom I won't name here, he is forcing KoopaTV, as a television network, to carry his speech to a Joint Session of Congress. All of the television stations are doing it by mandate.

In previous years, we called this the State of the Union, but the President insists that it's not one of those. In the spirit of his election opponent, we'll ask, “What difference, at this point, does it make?”

Either way, we're live-reacting to it (because we HAVE to, despite the great costs and no benefits it gives to us), and like previous years, it's the President talking with the Vice President (Mike Pence) and the Speaker of the House (Paul Ryan) sitting behind him.

Almost-Christmas Murder Cases Stun Los Angeles!

By ROXY - Perfect prosecutor is the culprit of a 15-year old case?!?

(LOS ANGELES, California) The entire legal world is reeling today after an explosive three-day trial in the Los Angeles District Court Courtroom Number 3 that covered and resolved two cases. The Defense Attorney, Mr. Phoenix Wright, is a rookie who only otherwise had three trials under his belt. The defendant in both cases was controversy-mired prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, and the prosecutor was Manfred von Karma, a prosecutor with a forty-year long perfect win streak.

Miles Edgeworth was accused of murdering former defense attorney Robert Hammond, the presiding defense attorney over the 15-year-old DL-6 Incident, which had Mr. Edgeworth's own father, defense attorney Gregory Edgeworth, as the victim. The DL-6 Incident, up til today, was unresolved; court bailiff Yanni Yogi, the suspect in that incident, was judged Not Guilty due to temporary insanity.

The DL-6 Incident involved Gregory Edgeworth, Yanni Yogi, and Miles Edgeworth trapped in a courtroom elevator for hours due to an outage caused by an earthquake, right after Gregory Edgeworth lost a case to Manfred von Karma; but not before giving Mr. von Karma his only penalty of his career. Gregory Edgeworth was shot in that elevator, and the legal system has believed for 15 years that the shooter was an oxygen-deprived Yanni Yogi. However, as revealed today in court, Miles Edgeworth has personally believed for 15 years that he was the shooter of his own father.

How To Be A Good Consumer of Media

It has become a very prominent mainstream concern: How do I know what sources to look at? How do I know if I should trust this article or this author? I get asked this, and KoopaTV has dealt with the issue many times over when we write about bad media sources and particularly bad reporting.

For over two years now, we've maintained a list of good and bad media sources. It's not only for our own use in finding things to commentate on, but since we've made it public, it's for the benefit of our readers. It's one of the more popular pages on KoopaTV (and surely not for the affiliates part of it, considering how few of those we have). However, we simply can't make it exhaustive. Not every bad source is on there, and not every good source is on there.

Now we're at this point of mainstream controversy where certain sore people out there are blaming “fake news” sites shared on social media (not KoopaTV, given how anti-viral the social media ecosystem is towards us) for influencing the presidential election. Everyone is scared of being mislead.

Good! So you're hopefully reading this because you're wondering how to be skeptical. Well, just yesterday, KoopaTV published an article called Trump Transition Team Considering Reggie Fils-Aime?!. This article exists to serve as a test case. Oh, and it was REALLY fun to write. Well, using that, this article will serve as a guide on how to be a good consumer of media.

Black Paint Bowser, Rescue Yellow, and Paper Mario: Color Splash's Hope

There is so much material to cover here, so before I get into talking about Black Bowser, we need to clear some other things up. 

First, Nintendo finally released Episode 4 of the Rescue V series. We already covered most of what's interesting for that when I wrote about the Nintendo Minute covering the Yellow Coliseum. That had a splattering of content, too.

The most important part is that Rescue Yellow would also vote NOT GUILTY in the George Zimmerman trial.

And, because a certain someone in the KoopaTV comments was wondering about this, it's also confirmed that the Yellow Coliseum has multiple NPCs the plumber can talk to that are NOT Toads or Huey. These range from the bone-obsessed Battle Royal clerk to other fighters or fighter-wannabes. These dudes all seem to have good dialogue and as much personality as you can get from one-line people.

KoopaTV Endorses Donald J. Trump for President of the United States of America

Are we the first videogame site to endorse Donald J. Trump for the general election? ...Will we be the only one? Well, we'll try to start a trend.

If you know anything about KoopaTV, you'll know we aren't afraid to get political here. It's a site feature, really. And, countless times over, it's ended up relating back to gaming anyway, so it's not totally off-topic.

Whether you want to avoid it or not, the results of this election will have a large impact on the gaming industry and the way you play. The presidency of the United States can affect that stuff in such a large way, mostly (see in the “Why You Shouldn't Vote For The Others” section for a directly bad example) indirectly. But those factors are important. As Bernie Sanders kept trying to do in his KoopaTV guest post, things like the economy and whether or not you're sent to a war you shouldn't be in affect how you play games.

KoopaTV's Live Reactions to Rio 2016's Opening Ceremony

Well, this is the first live reaction log we've had where every KoopaTV staff member makes an appearance.

We're all free to watch the Rio 2016 Olympic Games because we are not participating in them. I'm Nintendork 13 13. Vortexica is breezinabout. Rawk is Rawk, Kamek is Ultralink1, and Wendy is toadpwns. This log is twice as long as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's E3 2016 log, which was our previously longest reaction log. Just a warning.

The first part of it is complaining about how terrible the American NBC is, while the British BBC is substantially better for Olympics coverage.

Famous Dead People Privilege

Before E3 2016, way before, it was a no-brainer that Nintendo would have some sort of Satoru Iwata tribute. No one thinks that a tribute at The Game Awards 2015 (which was otherwise all sorts of awful) was good enough. Iwata died exactly one year ago, which should still be within the one-year statute of limitations to dedicate time in your E3 presentation to your widely-beloved former president. (It's not like anyone even knows who the current guy is.)

So, when Nintendo's E3 2016 rolled around for the first day, Reggie Fils-Aime shows up. Who got their tribute? “All the victims of the two tragic events of Orlando.” By name, Reggie only mentioned Christina Grimmie, who was supposed to come to Nintendo's E3 event.

After a brief moment of silence he cut to this trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which begins with the line “open your eyes”, as if the problem with all of the tragic victims is that they're just taking a very long nap:

Was Satoru Iwata mentioned once? In the whole E3? If he was, it was in the few hours at the end of Day 1 of Nintendo's covering The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that we were too exhausted to cover. I think it's safe to say he wasn't mentioned.

What's going on? Instead of Satoru Iwata as they should've done, Nintendo gives tribute to someone I've never heard of just because she's famous, died the weekend before, and is at some level a The Legend of Zelda fan. The problems get worse (and start existing, if you don't see any yet) from there.

The Black Knight's Memorial

When we think of great fallen soldiers, KoopaTV's staff thinks of our own Koopa Troopas first. They were the subject of last year's Memorial Day article, so we wanted to talk about someone else to keep things fresh. 

So, our second great fallen soldier that we thought of was the Black Knight. You may have seen him in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, the two best Fire Emblem games. He's enigmatic, clad in ebony armour, and he's highly effective. He's also dead, which makes him a fitting subject for a Memorial Day article.

If you couldn't already tell, this article will have spoilers for Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Heck, I've already alluded to some spoilers and I've just started! I know those games are nine to eleven years old, but I guess there are a lot of people who haven't played them that want to, based on their Amazon prices.

You may be terrified of these prices, but you're also willing to buy all three of
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, AND Fire Emblem Fates: Revelations.
All three put together are still inferior to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

So we wanna let you know what's happened over the past month and how you can help make your own site (by which I mean this one) better. Get ready, we got headers and anchors again.

More Censorship

This sucks to say, but we have more news continuing off a series of bad news. We've told you before how KoopaTV's videogame Defend Anita Sarkeesian got censored to hell from our content-hosting website. Then last month, Part 4 of our guide to Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!! also got removed. Well it turns out that on October 1st, Trayvon Tyson's Punch-Out!! itself got censored.

"We removed this project because it is too violent or scary for the Scratch website. Scratch is for kids ages 8 and up, so it's important that everything shared is appropriate for all ages."

This is a huge loss for the world, but fortunately you can see most of what the game had to offer by watching Jareditton's Let's Play of it here. Of course, there's nothing like playing the game, and you can get the file to download and play on your computer if you ask me nicely.

Jimmy Kimmel Falling Flat on Watching Gamers Play?

Some weeks ago, the comedian Jimmy Kimmel (I was almost done with this article thinking it was Jimmy Fallon, and had to go and change all references of Fallon to Kimmel. ...Who the hell is Jimmy Kimmel?) made fun of the new YouTube Gaming feature. It's basically a much-worse Twitch. He had this whole comedy bit over how strange/pointless it is that so-called gamers (really "watchers") would watch other people play videogames and spend a lot of time doing that. And because the mainstream gaming community is incredibly sensitive, he got a ton of hate comments and death threats. So he made a response video, got more of that, and then made another video featuring him and YouTube gaming celebrities.

So there's three videos in this whole scenario, each with millions of views. That's THREE things to respond to! And that's convenient for Rule of Three. So I'll give my thoughts on it all, and if you've been following my KoopaTV columns you probably won't be that surprised at my thoughts. But they're good consumption anyway, and a better use of your time than watching some Let's Player. So let's get started.

Pick Art: Art vs. Science Splatfest

It so happens that the North American Splatfests have been on-point. The one for this Saturday is "Art vs. Science", and that's a deep thing to discuss. Much better than that garbage Europe has arguing about if your bedroom is messy or tidy.

KoopaTV is firmly on the side of art, in large part because we consider all of our articles to be written art.

Damn right I joined this team.

But why should you join Team Art? Well, I have a few basic reasons.

1. Science created the platforms of creative expression — art is that creative expression, and is much more easily appreciable.
2. Splatoon needed advances in artistic design to exist, but not technological design.
3. Science is a more potent tool for misleading the public than art is, so art is "less bad".

KoopaTV's August 2015 Review Newsletter

Howdy folks! August ended, and now we're entering September. If you know how to read a calendar (whether mounted, from Club Nintendo, or on your computer) you already knew that. So let's use the airwaves responsibly, as Marie the Squid Sister would say.

KoopaTV had a fine and dandy month in August. Nothing really new happened (so we won't have all the cool headings like from last month's newsletter), though we did officially start our coverage of the Republican presidential debates. That'll be a thing every month for a while (or twice a month for some months), so look forward to our awesome Super Contest judging style!

PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton Moving to Sundays Only

We have a very important history with the Reverend Al Sharpton. Whether we trash him for race-baiting in the videogame industry, try to draft him for a celebrity boxing match with George Zimmerman, or make an amazing videogame (that you can play off your browser for free right here) that features his likeness, Al Sharpton is everywhere. We even endorse him as a source to get information, though some have theorised that we are only making a joke.

So we are taking the time out of our slow news week busy schedule to bring you the big news in Reverend Al's life: PoliticsNation will be dissolved from being Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6 PM Eastern for an hour to only being on at Sunday mornings at 8 AM for an hour starting October 4. Al Sharpton will reportedly then go preach to a church after the show airs. 'cause he's a reverend, right?

Al Sharpton is going to cut someone with that piece of paper. Note his cold face.

Al Sharpton doesn't take this as a demotion. In fact, he believes he will be the one setting the agenda for the day because 8 AM is before the other Sunday shows. So he's the first and premier figure in the weekend TV media landscape.

That got me thinking... should KoopaTV do the same thing?

Team Rocket Descends on Boston!

Last weekend were the 2015 Pokémon World Championships. Thousands of folks playing the Pokémon trading card game and the videogames competed to be named the best that no one ever was. (Except it's not really "no one" when the same thing happened last year, and the year before, and the year before...) Fortunately, they also competed for a lot of scholarship money, because The Pokémon Company International (TPCI) has a bias towards people being educated in college than just winning cash. Probably a legal thing.

Apparently, some competitors wanted to win through non-competitive, non-legal means. And I'd like to stress that because this article will be about an active investigation, everything that follows is an allegation and not a fact. Innocent until proven guilty!

So those competitors who allegedly wanted to win through non-competitive means were Kevin Norton (thinner guy, 18 years old) and James Stumbo (27 years old, and a pretty big dude). After fleeing Iowa from Donald Trump visiting the state's state fair, they both came to Boston to compete in the Pokémon World Championships that they were invited to. They were also packing some firearms, presumably because they thought that Donald Trump would grab their guns. Massachusetts was just the wrong place to flee to.

Norton and Stumbo were allegedly Team Rocket members and were planning to take the competition by force, stating so on Facebook. They were stopped after concerned members of the Pokémon community reported them to TPCI, who reported that information to the Hynes Convention Center. Hynes talked to the Boston Police Department, and Norton and Stumbo were stopped at the door. Boston Police eventually obtained search warrants, and eventually arrested the duo for having firearms they didn't have licences to.

So what the hell were they thinking? Don't bring guns to a place crawling with Pokémon trainers!

The Battle Flag of George Zimmerman

Readers of ZimmermanTV (that's KoopaTV when we've caught a cold) know that recently, George Zimmerman has been having trouble finding good people to associate with. He has a Mario-partying ex-girlfriend who thinks he's crazy. He has a truly crazy stalker who literally tried to kill him, and that particular guy is currently in the judicial system for that.

HOWEVER, he has finally found good company. Someone who is actually successful and owns a small business: Another gun store, the Florida Gun Supply. (We sorta hope that George Zimmerman won't have to physically guard this one.) It's Mr. Andy Hallinan. The two have made a "mini-documentary" together. You see, Mr. Hallinan doesn't want Radical Islam purchasing guns from him or participating in gun safety classes that he is making free for everyone else. In fact, he proclaimed he would deny service. So CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations; a well-known terrorism support group) sued Florida Gun Supply for illegal discrimination that violates Muslims' civil rights, or whatever.
