KoopaTV's February 2022 Review Newsletter

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Ah, THIS is what you came for. Right?

Sorry about not publishing this yesterday. We were... rudely interrupted.

But here is the actual KoopaTV monthly newsletter, February 2022 edition! Published at the beginning of (but unfortunately not the first day of) March 2022 so we can properly review what happened in the month that just passed. Starting with...

Top Five Recommended Experiences of February 2022

Here are KoopaTV's top five recommended experiences published in chronological order during February 2022:
  1. The Official Pokémon DP Sound Library (and thinking about The Wonderful 1237) — This is more here for The Wonderful 1237 discussion than the Sound Library, though that sounds nice, too!
  2. Happy Valentine's Day to Incineroar and Clawroline — This article is recommended because it's important for you to know what kind of person runs this website.
  3. 2023's Demise of the Wii U and 3DS Nintendo eShops (Explained!) — This article has a good combination of being informative AND opinionated, as it goes to details about the Wii U and 3DS eShop end-of-life timelines while giving facts about the Memories.
  4. What I Think About the TRIANGLE STRATEGY Prologue Demo — A really great game is coming out this Friday! Here are Ludwig's thoughts on the demo.
  5. Thoughts about Nintendo Switch Sports Online Play Test without violating the GAG ORDER — I'm mostly proud that KoopaTV hasn't gotten a DMCA request yet for publishing this, so I'd like to brag about that here.

Every article not on the above list is still worth reading, by the way.

KoopaTV Calendar for March 2022

I don't normally tell you ahead of time what my content calendar will be for the coming month, but I do want to note that there'll be even more weekend publishing for the first few weeks. Remember last year's Four Superior Nintendo Character Day Alternatives to MAR10 Day article? That wasn't a joke. We'll be doing articles for all five of those days as they happen in March. But a couple fall under weekends. I'd still like to publish five articles a week, so some weekdays might just end up... empty as a result.

This will mean that we won't be as timely as we'd like to be on the day's big news or whatever. We'll still get to it if it's interesting. Just not that day. Or that week. But I'd rather have an interesting topic backlog than the opposite.

Best Three Comments and One Worst Comment of February 2022

As far as interesting goes, I really like it when KoopaTV gets interesting and quality comments from readers! Here's three in chronological order made last month:
  1. “Xenoblade- Again, not too into it myself but I know a loooooooooooooooooot of people are so I'm happy for them. Currently playing through the first game, not too bad so far, but sooooo many features and text boxes that either don't explain things well or are complete information overloads. As such I want to try to get around the the rest of this series, but it will definitely take time. Maybe even years, I imagine.

LiveALive- I was standing when I saw it, but I would have jumped out of my seat if I had been sitting. I like to wait until the Direct is over so can skip through all the boring stuff. I typed in Nintendo Direct into YouTube and the direct itself was the second result, the LiveaLive announcement was the first. That YouTube algorithm can be scary sometimes, but I was too busy jumping for joy to notice. I'm a little hesitant about the 2.5D style as I think it makes the games look darker then they were before, but just the idea of anyone in the west learning about this game and helping it become more mainstream makes me squeal. Which I did, and I'm glad that nobody else was around. I've already written a review on the game and I doubt the story itself should change at all, but I will gladly do another review of this game. I think it may even be voice acted based on some of the clips I heard it the trailer, THAT is exciting indeed. I also heard a couple remastered tracks and you know I am completely into that. I don't think i can recall the last videogame I played that actually had a bad soundtrack. Speaking of other games... In the last two years I played "The world ends with you", "Actraiser", "Beneath a Steel Sky", and of course LiveALive. All of these games got sequels or remasters and I couldn't be happier. I played other games of course, but all of them were from active or already satisfyingly completed series. It's always nice to get remakes, but specifically games like TWEWY or LiveAlive whilst appreciated never really got the chance to shine they deserved upon initial release. TWEWY still isn't but things could change for LiveALive. Heck, I think the developers may have said something about doing more with the series if they could, and this could be their gateway to that. IT's all so very exciting, and I hope the staff at KoopaTV decided to purchase the game to see for themselves. IT's a unique experience regardless.

Conclusion- Whelp that's all of it. If you actually read all that then I commend you, I know I tend to skim things sometimes so no shame in that either. So excited for all these releases, now to try to avoid the inevitable spoilers. Gah! These are such aggravatingly fun times. Most satisfactory.” — Captain Stitch
  2. “"I'm sure it happened. Very briefly."

Looking at Deku Deals, the Phoenix Wright Trilogy and Great Ace Attorney Chronicles both went on sale on the Switch eShop for what looks like the 7th through the 14th.

Meanwhile, I've got my fingers crossed for an Ace Attorney 4-6 collection. And an Investigations collection.

(The eShop wish list has never notified me of sales, which is why I started using Deku Deals.)” — Samantha Lienhard
  3. “Former Balan fan here.

I somewhat agree with what you think, but shitting on Balan's pretty boy form is just... sad. After the leaks, it just took me more than a few days for me to get used to his form at the end.

This fanbase is just taking things way too far.” — Anonymous
Captain Stitch took what seemed to be over an hour writing three long comments on his thoughts on the February 2022 Nintendo Direct (and sometimes referencing KoopaTV's live reactions to that). Good for him. I picked the last one to put here but I could've put any of them. (Or all three, I guess.) Hopefully he doesn't skim over this part of the newsletter. ...Or the next part.

It's absolutely true that the eShop's Wish List is bad and often doesn't work. (Would my articles be considered pointless if I just advocated the use of Deku Deals? ...Well, they already are pointless, but...) Anyway, someone recently asked me off-website if an Ace Attorney 4–6 Collection would require Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney to be reworked to have the same graphical style as the latter two games that'd be in that collection. Y'know, for cohesiveness. I think it's an interesting question. I can see the publisher caring about visual consistency. I can also see them not caring, because they're the same company that released only a fraction of the previous Ace Attorney collection's soundtrack in the in-game soundtrack listener. Instead of all of it.

I really think it's telling that Anonymous left their name as Anonymous, as a former member of the BALAN WONDERWORLD cult. They're obviously afraid of retaliation from the people who remain in the cult. And that cult apparently still exists a year later if that's the case, though I haven't seen them. Maybe their numbers were decimated by depression-driven suicides. (Or they moved on to Deltarune, though I think they're behaving better if that's the case.) But now I'm thinking I missed an opportunity by not making BALAN WONDERWORLD joke nominations for KoopaTV's Game of THAT Year 2021.

Here was the worst comment from the month:
  1. “I stay in touch with the displays that address me the nation over. They all have heavenly notorieties and consequently they are overflowed with specialists' requests every week. So how would you make yourself stand apart from the group?” — Ducky
I think this guy is an Indonesian spammer (because his commenter profile is in Indonesian), but he wasn't linking to some website like other commenters did. And I put his comment into a search engine, because spam comments are often made on many comments sections on many websites, just copy-pasted. This one is unique. And it's total nonsense. Can someone explain to me what this could possibly mean? What is a heavenly notoriety?

KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program Round 42 RESULTS!

I think Round 42 was a missed opportunity... Well, for y'all. I'm fine either way. But it's as if there were large gaps in commenting in February... ESPECIALLY at the end of the month. And that seems like an issue with current events! And I do have thoughts on them, but I'm waiting for the right... timing to share those.
  1. Captain Stitch — 58 points — $10 Nintendo eShop gift card
  2. Lheticus Videre — 45 points
  3. Samantha Lienhard — 28 points
  4. ShinyGirafarig — 18 points
Captain Stitch may wish to use the gift card code that he will receive in his email before the eShops for certain consoles a generation behind will be closed off to that. ...Or he can just use them waaaay before that. That'd be my preference!

Announcing KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program Round 43!

Well, just like Round 42, the prize for the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program ROUND 43, lasting from March to end-of-April 2022, is another $10 Nintendo eShop card code.

KoopaTV Feedback Form Part XXXV and KoopaTV Quiz Part XXXV Now Available!

Part... 35? Making new feedback forms and quizzes every other month is really how I learn about Roman numerals. Anyway, check out the new (and old) forms and quizzes here. ...I'm... actually really impressed with my fake answer choices in the KoopaTV Quiz Part XXXV, especially on question 4.

Corrections Corner; February 2022

Nah, we're good. February 2022 was fine. Nothing to correct.

Variety is the spice of health in last month's January 2022 newsletter.
KoopaTV's March 2022 published the month after has... less variety in its top five recommended experiences. What happened to health spices?

It's worth comparing this to next year's February 2023 newsletter, too.

  1. Hey, I got one of the best comments!

I don't think Capcom would care enough about making them all look the same to redo Apollo Justice in 3D.

    1. Congrats.

I'm inclined to agree with that, but maybe marketing would try to demand it.

  2. Huzzah! I await my prize and no I didn’t skim a thing! I decided to buy the boxboy series with my previous winnings as it turns out the boxboy game on switch is an entirely new game. Now to maybe start saving up for Kidicarus uprising, the online prices for it are going absolutely BANNANAS!

    1. Thanks for the... courteous reminder. Honestly the reason I hadn't sent it yet is because the eShop cards are scratch cards and I hate them because they make a mess.
      But I sent it noooow.
