Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Fest? And Kirby and the Forgotten Land release

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Plus some behind-the-scenes info into its development.

Tomorrow (March 25, 2022), Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the franchise's first mainline 3D platformer, releases!

And I admit that after playing it for myself... I'm not a fan of it. Well, I'm not a fan of 3D platformers in general. (The last 3D platformer I played before that was BALAN WONDERWORLD, and at least Kirby and the Forgotten Land is leagues better!) But for Kirby in particular, I've had concerns about how a 3D game would translate and still feel like a Kirby game and stay true to his character. Developer HAL LABORATORY has also had those concerns. There is a brand-new four-part interview between HAL and Nintendo going into the game's development philosophy, and how the 3D gameplay ultimately affected the world-building and setting.

While HAL seems confident that they made the correct design decisions (and that the Wild Mode difficulty is actually hard?), I'm... not as favourable in that assessment. But, hey, the professional reviewers seem to like it.

But what I really want to talk about is the upcoming Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Fest happening August 11, 2022. This promises to be a FREE, WORLDWIDE livestream of gorgeous Kirby music that apparently features Meta Knight playing the saxophone. I think that's very exciting. Marx, who you may remember from Marx Day, is also playing the guitar(x).

Meta Knight is... so cool...!
I told y'all don't hate on him.

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary and hype the upcoming concert, Nintendo re-released some portions of Kirby's 25th anniversary concerts. Well, a two-minute clip of the title intro and Green Greens... but maybe they'll release more later. This embed is certainly going to break next year:

The video will be taken down on March 31, 2023. This is a bit reminiscent of when Marvelous uploaded a selected portion of the No More Heroes 3 OST (which remains unposted in totality) for four months and then took it down, replacing it with nothing but an empty void. EXCEPT the Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert is available on Spotify. That's definitely an improvement. In that artwork, it appears that Meta Knight is a violinist. I think the violin is more fitting for Meta Knight, since the bow (the stick that you use to play the violin with, not something that shoots out arrows) is kind of like a sword. I know that it's a past-time in group violin lessons for people to swing bows like swords. (Though I do like the saxophone more.)

You ought to remember that Nintendo told their investors that they'd be doing several things for Kirby's 30th anniversary, so more to come? Maybe the Kirby anime could make a reappearance!

There is a great chance that even if Kirby and the Forgotten Land won't be a superb game, it will have an excellent soundtrack. Anything related to this franchise and music is worth paying attention to! Feel free to still try to convince Ludwig to buy it, though.

Also happening during the anniversary? Kirby music won a Grammy award.
The 30th anniversary music fest happened on August 11, and its video on demand was up until August 31 of the same year.
Marx notably had a pink motif at the music fest.
