Let's play a game in the comments section. What will be the relative release order of these three cursed Nintendo Switch titles? All of which were mentioned or shown at Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct.
- Metroid Prime 4, which never had a release date (it's still “TBA” in Nintendo's financial documents). In January 2019, it was announced that its original team was off the project and Retro Studios would be on the assignment. It never received a release date or details. At E3 2021, it was described as being worked on hard, but they quickly changed topics to reveal Metroid Dread
- At E3 2021, Nintendo announced Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp for a December 3, 2021 release date. Then in October 2021 it was announced that Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp got delayed to be... a higher-quality product to release in the spring of 2022. In the February 2022 Nintendo Direct, they announced the new release date to be April 8, 2022. And then earlier this month, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp, which is presumably now a finished product, was delayed indefinitely to a To Be Determined date thanks to “recent world events”... Unlike the other two games on this list, at least Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp has a Nintendo.com listing. While pre-orders were once available, they have now been cancelled and disabled.
- They first announced the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in a cryptic way at E3 2019 without a release date (another “TBA”). Then more footage appeared at E3 2021, with a release year of... 2022. But today, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild got a video similar to what Metroid Prime 4's got:
I could've included Bayonetta 3 on this, but that went from a “TBA” release date for years to a release year of 2022 in the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, and without any contradicting information afterwards, so it hasn't been delayed.
Depending on how you think THE WAR is gonna go, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp should still release first. I mean, the game is done... or at least, that's what we're supposed to believe. Are they really going to never release it? Well, RECENT WORLD EVENTS could keep going for years, but at some point people will stop caring, right? And then it's socially acceptable to release a game with Colin Blue Moon and Grit Blue Moon? And then at least the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has a “spring 2023” time... which is a year AND a season. That should come second. Meanwhile, all we have for Metroid Prime 4 is... um...

Just because we've seen more of one game than another doesn't mean that the other game has nothing to show! Samus could just be holding her cards up her...um... arm cannon. Rather than showing everyone every (or any) development detail. And then, one day, all of a sudden (and before spring 2023), bam! It's Metroid Prime 4! I mean, you didn't know Paper Mario: The Origami King existed and then ALL OF A SUDDEN IT'S OUT IN TWO MONTHS. And that could happen at any day as a surprise for Metroid Prime 4.
...Of course, that's unlikely. So I think that'll come out last. But sometimes it's betting on the unlikely events that gets you the biggest reward. (Meanwhile I think I have the least interesting, most cookie cutter order.)
...To clarify there isn't actually a special reward or anything if you end up being correct in the comments section. You get to brag, though. To Ludwig, that isn't special, since he is regularly spectacular and correct and lets people know it. But perhaps to you... bragging rights might be special.
Not EVERY game gets delayed indefinitely. Sometimes, a rare game like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will go and release EARLIER than originally announced.

If Bayonetta 3 WAS in this article, it'd win, because it's releasing October 28, 2022—as scheduled.
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp was the first to release, on April 21, 2023.

DeleteAdvance Wars reboot, it’s essentially finished and regardless of how long the Ukraine situation goes on, some other War oriented game (from a different company) is gonna be released and Nintendo will probably release advance shortly after that. On the off chance they hold it out until the end of the war, then Zelda obviously. We know nothing about Prime 4 and there’s no way they’ll just randomly drop the game like they did with paper Mario.
ReplyDeleteThe videogame industry has never gone through a world war before. There's no precedent. The whole industry could just stop for the entire duration of World War III!
DeleteUnfortunately that’s true. As important as maintaining morale is, new production of video games just isn’t an efficient use of resources or labour. An alternative, would be to stop all physical game production and release everything digitally. Although that only works for games, I don’t know if they’d continue using the current generation consoles or move everything to computers/mobile.
DeleteSony and Microsoft have other products they sell, but I can’t fathom what would happen to Nintendo.
