Post-Easter Ester Shoes Accessory Brings Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Release Date CLOSER

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - I didn't see that coming. Neither did you!

In a very surprising move to make sure your post-Easter experience isn't totally ruined, Nintendo dropped this bombshell to the universe:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is releasing on July 29, 2022. You may remember that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was announced in the February 2022 Nintendo Direct for a September 2022 release. July 29, 2022 is a month or two before then, which is crazy. Companies tend to delay games, not push them earlier. (Hopefully it's not a rush job.)

It's an especially interesting contrast when you look at the likes of Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp, Metroid Prime 4, and the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that all have been significantly delayed! Clearly, the MONOLITHSOFT folks working on Xenoblade Chronicles 3 put on the Ester Shoes from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, because their Agility is a lot higher than promised and expected! (No confirmation on if Ester Shoes will be in the new title.)

Of course... if you timed your gaming schedule assuming that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would release in September but now it's earlier, that might be... a little frustrating. I mean, releasing earlier isn't always a good thing. But super-Xenoblade Chronicles fans will just automatically bump it to the top of their list no matter what, I guess!

Nintendo is currently running a promotion for the next two weeks where if you digitally purchase a Xenoblade Chronicles game on the Switch, you'll get double the amount of My Nintendo Gold Points. (5% → 10%.) It's... not really a sale, but more of a limited rebate. But if that's actually going to get you into a Xenoblade Chronicles game for the first time, you might actually want that further-out release, since these games are quite long and dense. This actually kinda matters because Nintendo of America is running a Special Edition exclusive to their online store. I'm sure it'll be in very limited quantities. Pre-orders up soon. You might WANT that extra time to be able to handle it.

As for my thoughts on the trailer itself? Um... I dunno, seems pretty stylistically similar to previous Xenoblade Chronicles games on the surface, both for the combat scenes with Chain Attacks (though now there are even MORE playable characters per fight!) and the lots and lots of voice-acting with the occasional Nopon. Nintendo promises that you won't actually need previous Xenoblade Chronicles experience to enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but they are also saying that 3 connects both 1 and 2 together, so you'll probably really want to!

...But really the trailer is just made up of a bunch of voice-acted scenes put together for more than a couple of minutes, which don't really make coherent sense to me, but with that background music it all sounds purposeful. I recommend watching it with sub-titles, though the sub-titles are auto-generated only and therefore miss quite a bit... and are even wrong several times! What I got from the discussion is that the Ouroboros is (are?) both a game mechanic (pairs of characters teaming up and transforming into a big thing) and apparently a story component.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 what is that thing Nintendo Switch
“What is that thing?” was the question I was wondering to myself for the entirety of the trailer.

Ludwig isn't the “Xenoblade” guy on the staff, but the Easter/Ester Shoes pun was entirely of his own thinking and so he felt that he had to be the one to write this article. Just for the headline. Even if the rest of the article is Ludwig being clueless on the subject matter because he doesn't have any Xenoblade Chronicles experience on a personal level. He isn't actually a fan of earlier release dates on things because he's making no progress on his backlog of games, mainly because of his KoopaTV writing and his training for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments. And then he feels like playing really old games instead of playing new ones. But he does really think it's an interesting contrast between Nintendo delaying many other games but pushing this one ahead of schedule.

A few days later, Splatoon 3's release date is revealed to be September 9.

  1. My backlog is sobbing as I suddenly no longer have until September to clear out enough space for Xenoblade.

    1. You could always just not start it right away... like the rest of your backlog...

    2. But it's XENOBLADE. That would almost be as bad as a new Ace Attorney game coming out and me just not starting it right away.

    3. inb4 CAPCOM announces a new Ace Attorney game on July 29

That ought to be more of a conflict for ya than the likes of... Digimon.

    4. ...Please, Capcom, this is the sort of conflict I need in my life!

    5. "Where do I get a vinyl record player?" ain't enough conflict? :p

    6. Nah, I don't care enough to get the album.

    7. ...OH YEAH? WELL NEITHER DO I.

Do you hope CAPCOM takes away existing undesirable conflict from your life too?

    8. What other conflicts could Capcom possibly remove?

    9. I dunno. Wot's going on in your life? >_>

    10. I am currently suffering from Great Ace Attorney obsession. Capcom could only make this conflict worse, not remove it.

    11. ...W-Well, you're free to talk to me about any other conflicts or problems you have.

CAPCOM could give you amnesia or something. But then you'd be able to play TGAAC fresh again, and that's a treat, really...

    12. ...I think I'll pass on the amnesia, even for the joy of experiencing TGAAC fresh again.

    13. You could experience everything else fresh, too!

  2. Well that’s the first time I’ve seen a game get released earlier than expected rather than delayed! But I’ve never played Xenoblade Chronicles though.

    1. Well, Super Mario Odyssey went from "holiday 2017" to October 2017.

    2. I've played that before...but I sold my Switch a while ago.

    3. Didn’t have much time to play it. I also sold the games I got with said console and my Wii U games (but kept the wii U itself, which, sadly, doesn’t turn on anymore now…)

    4. ...So, um, wot DO you have, then?

    5. Well 2 years ago I got this Xbox console (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Microsoft-Xbox-One-S-1TB-All-Digital-Edition-Console-with-Xbox-One-Wireless-Controller-Renewed/604685632) and that is pretty much the only gaming console that I have and use nowadays.

    6. That's... a difficult situation, I'd say. But... at least you can get Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy at 50% off right now. https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/store/phoenix-wright-ace-attorney-trilogy/c4r4rb3sb1nn

  3. WELL they took down the auto-generated captions and replaced them with official English captions.
