Give KoopaTV Your Requests!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - For your greater participation.
Not that we're out of ideas or anything, but I recently read a report that we should implement a requests section on KoopaTV. So here it is.

Have any ideas for new articles, investigations, features to implement, or stuff to do? We're servicing you, so if you would like anything on our part, just tell us here in the comments section. You may also e-mail an author via the Contact Us page if you don't want the rest of the world to know of your request.

Request anything about anything. Preferably game-related in some way, given the nature of the site. Creative requests are cool too. Particularly if they're exciting, although what excites us might be different from what excites a "normal" person. Restrictions basically include that if it involves spending money, we won't do it unless we would spend that money anyway, or you give us that money. So no reviewing the latest PlayStation 4 game none of us have. We would be happy to live-react to its cutscenes, though!

Ludwig also absolutely hates giving any legitimacy to rumours, so he will decline anything that involves reacting to one. KoopaTV will not do any request that involves doing something illegal. Read here for more information on things KoopaTV won't write about.

We're like your intellectual mercenaries. Except we don't get paid by you. Unless you want to pay us. That'd be cool. Intellectual in the sense that if we don't already have an opinion on something, we'll be glad to research it and get an opinion.

Check the comments section to see which articles exist because of requests.

This page has the most number of comments of any page on the site, so as a result, the comments section now has two pages.

Click here for Page 1 (comments 1–200)
Click here for Page 2 (comments 201–present)

AS OF 2022, WE HAVE RETIRED THIS REQUESTS PAGE AND BROUGHT IT TO A NEW, CLEANER REQUESTS PAGE. Access the 2022 requests page here. We have turned off comments on this page as a result.

Feel free to request something from a specific staff member, and remember the best place to do it is in the comments section of this article! Although we look at the comments to every article on the site equally.

Writing requests is a rewarded activity through the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program!

  2. Europe finally got a good Splatfest theme: Film vs Book. And seeing you like to be against books, why not write one for your audience members there?

    1. Here I was, finally gonna write your outstanding Splatoon 2 story mode request, but now you're requesting something I gotta do in a timely manner... Hm...

(lol as if we have European fans)

  3. Ludwig, it has been revealed that Pearl is 21 and Marina is 18.
Write about your thoughts on that. Does it surprise you? Why or why not.

  4. Luddy, Bayonetta gets a lot of hate in Smash Bros. Write about the possible reasons she's hated for. (I personally like her though)

  5. You knew it was coming.

Someone had to bring it up.

    Now the day has come...

This request, of course, is for the one and only...

The fact that Wii and GameCube games are coming on the NVIDIA Shield in China, of course! This, technically confirms GameCube Virtual Console!

...wait, I was supposed to bring something else up. Ah, never mind.

  6. Yooka Laylee is finally coming out on Switch. Would you make a review for this version?

    1. No.

Rawk is the one who will get the code from Playtonic (assuming they keep their word), and he says...
"Well I'm not playing it. I'm on a roll with games. Yooka-Laylee would end the streak."

We can write about its release, but I highly doubt that anyone will play the Switch version on this staff.

There's a possibility we might give away the code, though.

      Delete
    2. I would be interested in the code.

      Delete
    3. I highly doubt that Rawk would be willing to part with it so easily.

But maybe there will be an upcoming opportunity...

      Delete
    4. Not sure if I win the Amazon points, that I would spend on it. Maybe for A Hat in Time instead.

      Delete
    5. ...yeah I wouldn't go out and actually buy Yooka-Laylee.

(The Requests page isn't the place for a discussion!)

    6. Rawk just wrote a review for the Nintendo Switch version, but we may have another review article in the works for Yooka-Laylee that takes into account the Xbox One experience as well.

  7. Please write something about the upcoming Monster Hunter game.

Whenever it be bread-and-butter journalism or some shenanigans like (can vegans play monster hunter?)

  8. Squidmas newbs are coming and people are talking about if they should go easy on the newbs or show no mercy. What are your thoughts on this question when an influx of newbs come to a competitive game? You probably will connect this to immigration policies.

    1. I wasn't going to connect it to immigration policies...

But sure, this is a good topic.

  9. In light of the new tax bill which promote more businesses into a successful position, I'd love for you to make the argument why the average person should support smaller businesses and indie developers!

    1. I don't want to make the argument for something I don't agree with, though.

  10. In light of the recent vote between Senators on the NSA Spying Program, what are your thoughts? I recall you being an advocate on Team Flight, and associated it with freedom, but of course, at the cost of privacy. Do you believe this vote is a step in the right direction, or far from it?

  12. Talk about the Soviet Union's Tetris. Be creative. Perhaps you could maybe compare it to Soviet Missile Run, but that's just a suggestion...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Are you saying "the Soviet Union's Tetris" because it's supposed to be different than everyone else's Tetris, or are you just emphasising Tetris's origins?

      Delete
    2. An emphasis on Tetris's origins. I mainly brought it up as an excuse to see you talk about Russia.

Whether you use Tetris as an example, a metaphor, or just to namedrop it is up to you.

      Delete
    3. Oh, well, so much for that.
Still wrote about Tetris though. For the one time in KoopaTV history. https://www.koopatv.org/2019/02/9th-place-on-tetris-99-and-other-tetris.html

  14. If developers want to experiment with the formula of an established franchise, would it be better to market it as part of the main series or as a spinoff? Is there a thin line between spin off and a highly experimented sequel? Examples of games being marketed as spinoffs are Ace Attorney Investigations and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon while other games that have a dramatic change in the formula but are considered part of the main line are Zelda: breath of the Wild and the Metroid Prime series.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You were very critical of Detective Pikachu for prioritizing voice acting above all else. Back in GameFAQs there is an infamous user who calls JRPGs "interactive movies" for being filled with cutscenes and the gameplay usually being only grind to a high enough level until one wins.

How should a story heavy game best tell its story without turning into an "interactive movie?" If, how and when cutscenes should be used? Should all games be doomed to "excuse plots" instead such as DK's bananas got stolen again?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I was discussing this with other people in a Discord channel I am in about Splatoon making a spin off game about the idols. Then it went into discussion about spinoffs in general how most people seem to hate on any new spin off title that isn't the mainline games or an established spin off like Mario Kart. Why have gamers gone from accepting Mario spin offs like Mario Kart, the Wario series, Donkey Kong Country, Yoshi and Luigi's Mansion or Pokemon spin offs like Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon to being angry at spin offs like Hey! Pikmin and Metroid Prime: Federation Force?

    1. I see the April 18 one is "If developers want to experiment with the formula of an established franchise, would it be better to market it as part of the main series or as a spinoff? Is there a thin line between spin off and a highly experimented sequel? Examples of games being marketed as spinoffs are Ace Attorney Investigations and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon while other games that have a dramatic change in the formula but are considered part of the main line are Zelda: breath of the Wild and the Metroid Prime series."

The difference here is why were people more accepting of spin offs in the past while now they are much more wary.

  17. Splatoon 2 is planning to end their major updates soon along with Splatfests in the summer, excluding any potential update that make fixes due to exploits or glitches found. The Switch is still in its early ears at the time of this comment. Should Splatoon 3 be on the Switch as well or the next console? It may be a long wait for the next console and Splatoon 2 may be losing support over time due to loss of interest from all but the most hardcore fanbase. Basically should a major multiplayer game be one per console or is it okay for it to have sequels on the same console? The Smash series has been one per console so far but Pokemon did have 2 gens for a single handheld (gen 1 and 2 except for Crystal was playable on the original Gameboy, gen 4 and 5 on DS, gen 6 and 7 on 3DS).

People may be upset that they worked very hard on their gear and rankings for Splatoon 2 yet people may have worked hard on raising Pokemon for competitive play as well for a given gen before the sequel was announced. I argued that the Switch can make something like Pokemon Bank for Splatoon 2 to transfer to 3 so at least their gear can be transferred to. They can be the problem that abilities can be changed like how Damage Up and Defense Up was removed from Splatoon 1 to 2.

I would like to know what KoopaTV's thoughts are on this.

  18. I desperately need an intervention article for dealing with characters you hate in media you love. You seem to be able to play games that have the plumber all the time. I need to deal with the fear of giant door opener wielder getting in my Smash Bros.

  19. In the Wargroove fanbase, people are divided about earning one star only if played in easy mode compared to earning 3 stars if players did well enough in normal mode. Chucklefish is even asking for feedback about it here https://wargroove.com/whats-next-for-wargroove/

For those who want to earn 3 stars in easy mode, they explain that there are unlockables behind earning enough stars that they won't be able to get if they get one star per map. They also say people who struggle with TBS games would just look at a day by day walkthrough, making it a chore to earn 3 stars per map. Those who only want three stars to be tied to difficulty say that stars should be earned for good play.

My request is how should games handle unlockable rewards for casual players vs hardcore gamers? Despite me hating the game I will give praise where it is due, Kingdom hearts 2 did make it that you can unlock the secret video without 100% completion if you play on the hardest difficulty versus needing 100% completion for normal mode. But is this the best way to handle unlockables?

  20. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/02/wargroove_dev_says_sony_refused_cross-platform_play_despite_chairmans_comments

It seems Sony is very stubborn to allow cross-play with Nintendo and Microsoft. Should companies promote competitiveness or cooperativeness between each other and how much in each category?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Is there a right way to ask for things from major companies?

Is there a respectable way for the target audience to ask for changes such as to make Sonic the Hedgehog more accurate in the movie? To add back all the Pokémon in a future game? Some other request? I keep seeing memes jokingly saying that "bullying worked" for why Sonic was fixed.

While there is always "vote with your wallet" sometimes bad products get sold because people did not know they would like a product after buying them and companies would get the wrong message. Or being able to actually boycott a product. A company can easily think they no longer like product when in reality the fandom does not like the direction it headed.

  22. When localizing games, should localizers change the location to help players feel more connected to the lore of the game as the Ace Attorney series did changing the location in Japan to California or should localizers keep countries of origins in game like how "The World Ends with You" kept its Japanese location which may allow foreign players to get more familiar with other cultures?

  23. Inspired by this Tweet: https://twitter.com/Mike_Matei/status/1210959863733530625?s=20

Is there a wrong way to play and/or beat games? Does it matter if it is an outside cheat device, ingame cheat codes, or a feature officially added years later by the developers themselves such as the Rewind feature?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Write a mini review of the Murder by Numbers game. Some games can be different from the trailer, and sometimes what looks good in the trailer really isn't fun in action. No need to beat the game or explain the entire plot, just some thoughts about what you like about the game, what could be fixed, and whatnot. Or y'know, another piece lambasting Miyamoto for his egregious crimes against humanity. I like those ones.

  25. Tell us who Doug Bowser is, who he was before his nintendo escapades, and what his true intentions are.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Okay here's one! You should write an article about the best and worst modern game 'directors' at Nintendo. I think that's the position name. Obviously Miyamoto would be first, but what about some of the lesser known ones? Like Kirby (although that's not directly Nintendo), I know it's not Sakuri anymore. At this point in time I'm not looking forward to anything made by Tanabe, even if Paper mari-TOAD isn't entirely has fault.

    1. I dunno, bashing people who I'd normally leave be because a request tells me to bash them? That's... not a request I'm eager to pursue, but I'll put it on the list, I guess.

      Delete
    2. No need to bash, you don't have to do the worst ones. Just a list of some of the best upcoming 'directors' would be nice. I like that guy from Mario odyssey, but I'd be hard pressed to remember his name. Now what was it again...

  27. Noticed you did a Color Splash review, but no Origami King? I demand you write one immediately. Just kidding, but i would like to know what you think the paper mario team has improved on since then, and what feels like back pedaling. Although I'm writing a game review (not paper mario) so even if you put this request on hold that would work out.

  28. Although I didn’t think it was all that great, you should do a space Jam 2 review. Or at least a analysis of its portrayal of video games.

To explain, space jam two for some reason has a core center of the plot revolves around video games, and it’s actually in a positive way. I’d like to know your thoughts about this, although I wouldn't go out of my way to watch the movie if I were really against it. Lebrons not cool like Jordan.

Also there’s a scene where Lebrons playing Bugs bunny’s crazy castle for the game boy. It’s funny because that’s reeaalllyy not one of the best games, Or even average games.
