Remember my article on Percy's Predicament? That Wii U indie game that got trashed for looking like a Nintendo 64 game? And I made a spirited defense of it? Maestro Interactive Games is still in business, now conducting a Kickstarter campaign! Their newest game? Luna's Tale: Curse of the Forgotten Doll! (Click here for the campaign.)
Go support it. Oh, I'm sure you want more reasons than my endorsement. Well, sure. It's coming out on all the now-current gen consoles plus your PC. And Mac! Of course, and most importantly, that includes the Wii U!
From the introduction:
"Maestro Interactive Games is an independent game studio working on our next project, a 2.5D Platformer; Luna's Tale: Curse of the Forgotten Doll.
Imagine taking a hand-painted world and turning it into an amazing side-scrolling platforming adventure. Luna's Tale delivers a mixture of adventure, storytelling, and platforming from games we know and love, like Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, but with a completely fresh feel for today’s gamer." [Emphasis added]
Well? They're smart enough to put two of the best platformers (Donkey Kong Country 2 anyway) of all time immediately in the description. Not everyone would be smart enough to put that. A lesser person would put Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog. Speaking of Donkey Kong Country, check out the music samples on the page. The video on the page also has sexy music. You know, jazz.
For all you Anita Sarkeesian/diversity fans out there, you'll be happy to know that this is the protagonist:

It's an ambiguously brown female! |
What differentiates the game from other Kickstarter games? According to the video, everything is hand-drawn (good), and the animations are great. "Great characters make for good stories." They say. Well, we agree. Not everyone realizes this or cares about characters. So it's good that Maestro does.
Ludwig himself hasn't backed the project because he's poor. You're presumably not poor. So go help out.
After this failed, KoopaTV didn't do indie Kickstarter advocacy for several years until this guest post.
