By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Again with the Mega Man soundtrack pre-order bonus?
Pretty big news drop today. CAPCOM announced Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection to release January 21, 2020. It's a six-pack of the four Mega Man Zero games and the two Mega Man ZX games, and it'll be out on ALL major platforms and PC. Good stuff. Here's the announcement trailer:
I've already made my thoughts on the first Mega Man Zero Collection (containing only the four Mega Man Zero games, back on the DS) pretty clear in this article. Basically, that had an Easy Scenario in it that made the game not only really easy, but the gameplay was kind of unsatisfying since there was nothing to unlock because you had everything. But without that scenario, the games are prohibitively difficult to complete and unreasonably and permanently punish your mistakes.
Is “Casual Scenario Mode” the same thing with a different name? We'll find out later. At least it's clear that “Save-Assist” is putting a much-needed save point in the middle of the stage. Nothing wrong with that. Mega Man Zero is already brutally difficult based on the level design. There's also some kind of time attack mode called Z Chaser that they want to keep the details of a secret.
I want to draw attention to what they're calling the ten Reploid Remixes, which get their own trailer that is meant to be listened to:
I have a big, philosophical word of caution. CAPCOM did this before with the release of Mega Man 11. If you pre-ordered that game, you'd get instrumental versions of the stages that'd play instead of the normal soundtrack. These instrumentals were much, MUCH better than the normal versions, to the point that I refused to buy the game because of how bad the soundtrack normally is. Since I didn't pre-order the game, that left me without options.
Later on, CAPCOM made the instrumental soundtracks available as free DLC, which was first announced on KoopaTV months after the fact since CAPCOM didn't make an announcement for that. They might do the same with these ten Reploid Remixes. ...I'm actually pretty confident they'll do the same with the ten Reploid Remixes. Timed exclusive.
However, there's really no point in that, because based on that trailer preview, the remixes aren't better than the originals. They certainly aren't better than the already-existing remixes of Mega Man Zero's soundtracks. Take Mega Man Zero 3's Trail on Powdery Snow, which briefly was in that trailer. There's this resonance remix of it. There's a remastered tracks album with it.
The quality of the original soundtrack is good enough. These remixes will just sit on YouTube and sound nice. Probably. They'll also sit in the in-game music player, which is a critical addition that is sorely missing from the Mega Man Zero Collection on DS.
The end of both videos link to a “http://www.megaman-zzxlc.com/”, which if you go there right now, is a 404 error. It's like “Go to Joe 30330” all over again. (At least the domain is already registered for the Mega Man site. Couldn't say the same for Joe Biden's.)
Update August 28: The website is actually live and browsable now.
By the way, I don't know much about the two Mega Man ZX games, and I don't think anyone else does either. If they're any good, this collection may be worth it for me just to check those out. For your information, the phrase “Mega Man ZX” has never been written on this website before until this article.
For the rest of you, Mega Man Zero are a group of really hardcore action platformers with amazing music and sprite-work. If you're into that, get the collection. Though they'll probably be on sale shortly afterwards like all of the other CAPCOM games currently on sale until this Thursday.
Ludwig giggled mischievously when writing the comparison between the fake website and Joe Biden's fake website from his debate performance. Seriously though, this is a great announcement. How do you feel about it? Let Ludwig know if he's a bad gamer because he can't beat Mega Man Zero without the Easy Scenario.
Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection got delayed to the end of February 2020.
Ludwig bought the collection, and gave it a review. Well, specifically, he gave the in-game music player a review.

“If you agree with me, go to megaman... z...z...x...l...c... and help me in this fight. Thank you very much. [looks down in shame]” (Please read that in Joe Biden's voice.) |
