Nintendo New Year's Digital Sale 2019 — Actually Worthwhile Sale

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - The tagline is FAKE NEWS, though.

If it feels like I just wrote an article about a Nintendo eShop-based sale, it's because I did — the CAPCOM Winter Sale 2018 that lasted from December 17, 2018 to January 2, 2019. Immediately coming to replace it on January 3, 2019 and lasting until noon on January 10, 2019 (also known as very soon since we've had other important articles to publish since then) is the Nintendo New Year's Digital Sale of 2019. Like CAPCOM's sale, it's actually extraordinary in its scope and quality, and also notably features the one snub from CAPCOM's sale. That's right... Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is on sale right now for Nintendo 3DS, quieting thoughts that the Trilogy's soon-to-be release on the Nintendo Switch would result in its 3DS incarnation not being discounted.

Nintendo New Year's Digital Sale 2019 recommended included games
The sale features fantastic games and a game I'll buy.

First of all, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is 60% off. The tagline from Nintendo is “Save up to 30% on select digital titles that are sure to brighten up your New Year.” The idea that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy would not brighten someone's New Year is preposterous. It's the one game I'd most recommend someone with a 3DS purchase.

And you should get up-to-speed with it quickly, because tomorrow's article is going to be Ace Attorney-related with content from the third game in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy. (It's a trilogy because it has three games in one. And these are each lengthy titles. EXCEPTIONAL DEAL.)

Besides the other games in the Ace Attorney series (and you had your chance for that in the CAPCOM Winter Sale), Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (30% off) is the second game I'd most recommend someone with a 3DS go and purchase. I want more people to play this game. Don't worry if you're bad at it — it's supposed to be difficult and a challenge, but the game also features player-to-player rescuing. I would be very happy to rescue you — I have a whole article dedicated to my willingness for that!

Speaking of — and this is referencing what was more important than publishing this article right away — recent Game of THAT Year Awards on KoopaTV (if you missed it, see our Game of THAT Year 2018 Nominations and Game of THAT Year 2018 Awards), Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon got robbed. It should've won one of or both of Best 3DS Game and Best OST back in 2015, which it was nominated for but subsequently lost in the awards to the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, respectively.

Splatoon 2 is one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch right now, and while developer support in terms of new content has stopped (and I owe the audience an article about a hypothetical “Splatoon 3” per request), the online community for it is still thriving, even after the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Besides, lots of games don't have continuing developer support, and Splatoon 2 doesn't need it since it's not only well worth $60, but at 30% off, it's well worth $41.99. There are still new Splatfests, and I'm going to talk about the latest one in greater detail on Thursday. Though that article won't be flattering, Splatoon 2 in general is still very recommendable.

The most notable part of this sale for me, however, is that Culdcept Revolt is on sale. I said a while ago that Culdcept Revolt looks interesting and that if I found a physical copy at a store I'd buy it. I doubt that will ever happen, but 30% off seems nice.

...Well, I actually bought Culdcept Revolt at that discount right before publishing this article.

Don't let the Mirror Kirby theme distract you: There's Culdcept Revolt on my 3DS HOME menu.

I'll tell you my thoughts on Culdcept Revolt at some point in the distant future, but the point is this: This New Year's sale is so good that I actually went and bought something, instead of just sitting around telling you to go buy things.

I did it. So can you. Especially since a lot of you have a lot more cash now thanks to the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program giving you all more money. And we'll keep doing that with the latest round going from January–February. Win that one, and you'll be well-equipped for any future sales.

It feels good to be a KoopaTV fan now, doesn't it? ...Oh, this is supposed to be about Nintendo? Yeah, yeah, feel good about that too.

Ludwig isn't quite sure when he's going to find the time to play Culdcept Revolt, especially since that involves playing on his Nintendo 3DS instead of the system with all of the attention, but just because the $20 came from a sale doesn't make the price insignificant. All he uses his 3DS for now is using Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon as a music player (its OST really is that good and you should buy the game since it's on sale). Either way, if you've somehow gotten this far into the KoopaTV story and haven't bought Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, what exactly will it take for you to do so?

Here is the Wednesday Ace Attorney article. Buying Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy provides maximum enjoyment.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is next discounted in May 2019, still for the 3DS only.
There's a New Year's 2020 sale, too.

  1. I'm predicting a bashing of the clout system for the Thursday article.

I got all of these games in some form (e.g. the Ace Attorney trilogy is the DS carts) besides for Culdcept Revolt.

    1. I already wrote extensively about the clout system here. Not doing that again.

There are a lot of other games on sale than wot I presented here, I just don't care to recommend them or I anti-recommend them (ARMS).
