I don't have a problem with LEGO Luigi's mansion renovation projects

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Koopas aren't really involved, so...

You can be forgiven for watching this trailer and think that this is the only new LEGO + Nintendo set that just came out:

But here's the full list of new LEGO Super Mario items for purchase, and these don't include the new bundles they've devised:

  1. LEGO® Super Mario™ Luigi’s Mansion™ Haunt-and-Seek Expansion Set ($79.99)
  2. Luigi’s Mansion™ Entryway Expansion Set ($39.99)
  3. Luigi’s Mansion™ Lab and Poltergust Expansion Set ($29.99)
  4. Big Urchin Beach Ride Expansion Set ($59.99)
  5. Dorrie’s Beachfront Expansion Set ($29.99)
  6. Bowser Jr.'s Clown Car Expansion Set ($9.99)

Plus, you can (but shouldn't) try your luck with these $4.99 Character Packs, Series 4. You could get one of any of the following ten possibilities, with no guarantees which you might pull:
  1. Mechakoopa
  2. Para-Biddybud
  3. Stingby
  4. Bully
  5. Freezie
  6. Ant Trooper
  7. Goombrat
  8. Coin Coffer
  9. Scaredy Rat
  10. Baby penguin
By the way, I looked up all of the proper nouns in all of these sets, and they are all already-established characters and locations. Nothing made up this time. There's not much objectionable content, and that's saying something since I like to take the worst possible interpretation with this LEGO stuff. I guess there's a very realistic chance that Mario will dangle baby penguin over a table or cliff. I mean, he did that to Larry. Both were totally innocent!

All of their marketing insists that these are all great gifts for “trendsetting kids”, but I don't know how much selling things based off a game that came out in 2001 is really setting a trend... more like following a very, very old one.

In any case, you can spend a lot of money building and expanding Luigi's mansion. (And clearing out the ghosts that love to inhabit it.) You can give the mansion an entrance, a deep interior and paintings, a vacuum cleaner to make sure all of that area is clean (the Poltergust 3000), and even its own dog (Polterpup).

LEGO Luigi Poltergust 3000 backside Luigi's Mansion expansion set
You can tell it's the original Poltergust 3000 and not the Poltergust 5000, because the 5000 has a green Strobulb at the back while the 3000 does not.
And it's clearly not the Poltergust G-00.

It also seems possible that you can expand the mansion to become beachfront property, with urchins and dolphins and a Yoshi and Dorries. They even import expensive clown cars. That's just what rich people do, and despite their everyman appearance, those two plumbers are rich. But if that's how they want to spend their money, whatever, I don't have a problem with that. Though all of this expansion is coming from Luigi. Mario just has a small, simple house, because I guess he's using his money to go fund genocides instead of home renovation.

Oh, you'll need a lot of money for all of this. These are all EXPANSION sets... so you still need to buy the original starter courses. There's not an additional Luigi with these Mansion purchases or anything. But the original starter sets have been tagged by LEGO as “Hard to find” now. Are they... really that popular? I guess that's why they're now selling both the Luigi and Mario starter courses as a “team-up bundle”.

Oh, while we're talking about this, that Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone set I wrote about at the start of 2021 has now released as of January 1, 2022, for $70.

Ludwig said in the title he didn't have a problem with LEGO Luigi's mansion renovation projects, but he apparently did have a problem with the lack of LEGO Super Mario's home renovation projects. Nothing in this article should be read as an endorsement of these products, but they seem less offensive to Ludwig than previous LEGO Super Mario sets.

See the previous series of expansion sets here, including character pack series 3. This set was much more evil.
Ludwig does, however, have a huge problem with himself becoming a LEGO figure. That's the next announcement.
Character Pack Series 5 is getting a price increase and a packaging change.

  1. Are you SURE I shouldn't try character packs? I mean...the SM64 Baby Penguin as a LEGO sounds even more adorable than the real thing. After all, unlike the original, it can't cry at you when you pick it up!

...It can't do that, right? RIGHT?

    1. This just in! Yoshis island Lego set! Featuring the return of the innovative sound brick. Now you can hear baby Mario’s piercing screams on the bus, at school, and even on the toilet! You’ll be the envy of all your friends, and the enemy of everyone else.

    2. Baby Penguin can't cry, though right now, the two adult plumbers DO have audio to them.

As for Baby Penguin, you don't know when you buy the Character Pack if you're going to get a baby penguin or if you're going to get an Ant Trooper.
Well, I guess you could buy it second-hand...
