By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - I wonder if school's gonna ruin things.
August has ended. Today is Labor Day in the United States, the unofficial end of the summer season. Didn't feel like summer over here. All we did was work. (Also, Koopa Kingdom is hot all year round, so the notion of seasons doesn't apply here.)
You're probably just interested in this newsletter having interesting stuff to talk about, so, sure, we have that. Check them out:
I don't have any complaints about our article content in August. Everything on KoopaTV is worth reading. You shouldn't have any complaints either, with a best-of line-up like this (chronologically-ordered) one:
You want to know about how great you guys are, right? Well, sure, here are the best three comments we received in the KoopaTV comments section in the past month. Reminder to you lurkers: Keeping your comments in your head, or on a social media platform, doesn't qualify as the KoopaTV comments section. If it ain't on www.KoopaTV.org, it ain't on KoopaTV.
You know, I want paper vs. plastic to be a Splatfest theme, and then I want to have KoopaTV's comments section take credit for it. That'd be great. Anyway, Fortnite is terrible, but I'm okay with you articulating why you might think otherwise with some facts. Kody B.'s comment, while worrying that he continues to play Fortnite, managed to force me to play the game and give that article a free update. Kind of rare a comment causes that to happen, but I had to try out the gyro controls mentioned.
As for the worst comment? There was actually more than one comment that could've qualified for being the worst comment — which makes August sort of a dubious month in that regard. Usually there's just one obvious bad comment, or I have to pick among a meh comment for the quota. In any case, here's the number one worst comment of the month:
It's a tough debate about which of Minecraft or Fortnite is worse and more contemptible, but SonnyTMG//TheMinecraftGamer's claim that he's not into Minecraft is absurd. (He also refers to the monthly review newsletter as “match review crap” which displays a critical lack of understanding. Also, “gamez”?)
Here's my evidence: His Google+ profile. Here's the banner:
Since it's probably bad for site loyalty to trash people who at least claim they read KoopaTV articles and like them, let's discuss the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program designed to help keep loyalty despite my cruelty.
The KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program is great. It lets KoopaTV make a game out of you participating on a site about games. Completely skill-based, too. Let's see who had the most fun between July and August:
Congrats to Kody B. for winning! You'll have your code e-mailed to you... your $10 Nintendo eShop code! Please don't spend it on Fortnite items.
Round 22 of the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program already started, as of September 1, 2018. I just didn't tell anyone. It'll last until 11:59 PM, Eastern, on October 30.
The prize this time? You get a one-year (starting November 1, 2018) spot in the KoopaTV Nintendo Switch Family Group, enabling you to be a part of our Nintendo Switch Online Family Plan! Paid for by not-you. Basically, you get a limited and free-to-you spot in something that is equivalent to a $20 value if you tried to get it yourself. (We've also updated our disclaimers/privacy policy since inclusion to the group requires us getting the e-mail address associated with your Nintendo Switch account.)
But only if you beat out every other KoopaTV participant and get the number one spot in the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program.
By the way, point-getting is slightly different this time around because of the below news bulletin:
Due to lack of overall activity on the KoopaTV Feedback Forms & Quizzes, I'm putting off making another set of them. They take a lot more work to make than it looks, but they've dramatically lost their popularity since their introduction almost two years ago.
Unlike some other features on KoopaTV that take a lot of effort that aren't just our core activity of writing articles, saying we have feedback forms & quizzes, I don't think, was very compelling for our marketing compared to “we also actually make videogames!” and “we give you free money equivalents!”
I did like how the quizzes hearken back to the past two months’ articles and test your memory (or ability to just go and look at the article again) about some factoid in there. But if no one wants to do them... then I have better ways to use my time.
How will you get easy points in the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program? I suggest checking out the page on it and figuring that out for yourself...
Nothing was corrected. Yay! Perfect!
KoopaTV gets to do better and better things when activity is on an up-swing and everyone is well-motivated to keep the site running, so please share KoopaTV out to other people and get the word out about how great this site is!

Top 5 Recommended Articles of August 2018
I don't have any complaints about our article content in August. Everything on KoopaTV is worth reading. You shouldn't have any complaints either, with a best-of line-up like this (chronologically-ordered) one:
- Super Smash Bros. at EVO 2018: A Mysterious Destiny — What happened at EVO 2018, how people responded to it, and Ludwig's thoughts. And, yes, it's mostly about Bayonetta and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U.
- Ashley has granted kids to Hell... What about Sakurai? — When you sit down and think about it, examining all the evidence... Ashley hasn't actually been confirmed to be an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. We wonder why...
- Which utensil is more useful? Fork VS. Spoon Splatfest! — The August 2018 Splatfest asks which is the more useful utensil: Fork or Spoon? Ludwig has a favourite in spoon, but his own research indicates that fork is factually the better answer. What does he do?
- Fixed One-Time Cost vs. Microtransactions/Loot Boxes vs. Subscription Fee — Shigeru Miyamoto wants the game industry to embrace a subscription fee model more than it does right now. Let's analyse the payment models.
- Let's Hope There's No Madden Movie About The Jacksonville Shooting — KoopaTV is the site that did investigative journalism about the fate of the Madden Curse movie... and now we ask that there isn't one about the shooting at the Madden NFL tournament in Jacksonville, Florida.
Speaking of Labor Day, Kamek had a cook-out sort of similar to the one we had a year ago in May. (...Note his utensil usage.) |
Best Three Comments and Worst One Comment of August 2018
You want to know about how great you guys are, right? Well, sure, here are the best three comments we received in the KoopaTV comments section in the past month. Reminder to you lurkers: Keeping your comments in your head, or on a social media platform, doesn't qualify as the KoopaTV comments section. If it ain't on www.KoopaTV.org, it ain't on KoopaTV.
- “My attitude toward Fortnite (moreso people who play it and love it) pretty much from the word go has been, "Yes, I get it, you think it's the greatest thing since Sliced Bread Simulator, get off my lawn."” — Lheticus Videre
- “While Fortnite did not have gyro controls when it first released, it does now as of a recent patch. Anyway, I have not played many solo battles, but I have put a fair amount of time into the 50 v 50 mode because I find it to be more enjoyable and forgiving as slow as it may be. Overall, for a free game, I would say it is a decent battle royale for just about anyone. Even if you're not familiar with the genre, it does not take long to grow accustomed to the basic mechanics and eventually win your first round. The developers have also listened to fans and added or removed features to better enhance the gameplay such as the gyro controls I have mentioned earlier. Fortnite is still far from being the best game ever and is highly overrated, yet there is just something that brings me back to it again from time to time.” — Kody B.
- “This theme gives me hope that paper vs plastic is going to be a theme in
the future. This article reminded me I have Splatoon themed chopsticks
along with my Splatoon spoon and fork.
I still did not choose myself. This is the equivalent of EU's North vs South Pole as who has a personal stake for a certain pole unless they are an explorers? Utensils are used for different things. My daughter is having an easier time handling a fork than a spoon if that counts for anything.” — ShinyGirafarig

Whoa, I was almost a contender this time! (Almost.)
ReplyDelete...eh, not really, but at least you have a head-start for round 22.
DeleteThanks again for another great round. I've used the code that you sent me. Also, you can rest assured that I will not spend it on V-bucks or any microtransaction. I actually have not played Fortnite in a couple of weeks now. I have read that the game has become more buggy since the last time I played it, but the developers are working to fix the problems in a new patch. As far as this round goes, I'm going to put all my effort into it, even more so than I did in round 21. I want to become part of the family.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you don't treat becoming part of the family like some kinda mafioso thing.
DeleteCome on, I made that account AGES ago, (Also It's the "Worst comment of 2018 guy speaking" -,- anyways, I like other games (Including Mario games I guess -,-) anyways, Any time my friend searches up my name he reviews an article by you, He says they are good but dosen't like the part about me on the worst comment, If you stop doing these articles with me in them, I'll be happy and stop commenting on your articles, Deal or No deal.
ReplyDeleteI mean of march and august XD
DeleteI like that your friend searches up the name that you made ages ago and now disavow... on apparently a regular basis.
DeleteWell, here's the thing: I like getting comments. Yours have been bad, but they're also unintentionally hysterical, so despite the designation of being the worst of their month, I actually appreciate them.
Okay, But I'll stop posting BAD comments and then can you stop putting me in articles?
DeleteIf you make REALLY good comments, you might end up in an article featuring it as a best comment of the month.
DeleteOkay, If it's a good comment article I'm okay with it, thanks
DeleteThe section is, after all, labeled "Best Three Comments and Worst One Comment of August 2018"
DeleteYou have to put effort if you want to be the best though.
