KoopaTV's LIVE Reactions to the February 9 2022 Nintendo Direct

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - For Nintendo Switch games coming out in 2022.

Yesterday, Nintendo announced a new Nintendo Direct for today, which sort of happily upended my content plans for this week. Because I was going to write about Triangle Strategy, but now I'll have a lot MORE to write about Triangle Strategy after waiting. ...And if it isn't obvious, Triangle Strategy is in this Nintendo Direct. As are many other games.

Join myself and Heavy Lobster as we live react (and remember that silence is a reaction, too) to the February 9, 2022 Nintendo Direct:

[4:53 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhDFA_O7zNg
[4:57 PM] HeavyLobster: Let's go!!!
[4:58 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is seeing if Nintendo's "various initiatives" around Ring Fit Adventure are real, as President Furukawa mentioned in the 81st Annual Shareholder Meeting.
https://www.koopatv.org/2021/07/nintendo-qa-81-annual-shareholder-meeting.html#ringfit
[4:59 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Seeing more Splatoon 3 is a more realistic expectation.
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: RP - M
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So I guess Bayonetta 3 is here.
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Or there's some other M-rated title!
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Fire Emblem?
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: That's Fire Emblem.
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Warriors.
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Oh.
[5:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ew
[5:00 PM] HeavyLobster: Fire Emblem stuff.
[5:01 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: It's not Fire Emblem stuff, it's Warriors stuff.
[5:01 PM] HeavyLobster: Do we really need another Fire Emblem Warriors?
[5:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Anyway it's called Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes, and it seems entirely based off Fire Emblem Three Houses.
[5:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Releasing June 24, 2022.
[5:03 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Trailer for Advance Wars 1 + 2 Re-Boot Camp... and most notably April release date.
[5:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Wait they said No Man's Sky?
[5:04 PM] HeavyLobster: They're bringing No Man's Sky to Switch.
[5:05 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This summer.
[5:05 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: .......Super Mari0 Strikers...???
[5:05 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Mari0 Strikers Battle League
[5:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...The word "league" makes me think of "Rocket League"
[5:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Electric fence returns.
[5:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Wait is this wot Next Level Games is doing??
[5:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Nintendo bought Next Level Games last year and this is wot they've been doing?
[5:07 PM] HeavyLobster: Sounds like a cool idea.
[5:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Alright there's 8-player local multiplayer.
[5:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And "online clubs"
[5:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Still better than FIFA.
[5:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So is this Splat?
[5:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...yes.
[5:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I recognised from the helicopter.
[5:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: SALMON RUN
[5:08 PM] HeavyLobster: Salmon Run returns.
[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: With....some kind of....
[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...........
[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: FISH STICKA
[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: FISH STICK
[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: FLIPPER-FLOPPER

Splatoon 3 Salmon Run next wave boss salmonid flipper-flopper official artwork
This is a pretty cool design!

[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: EGG THROW
[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: YOU CAN THROW EGGS TO YOUR TEAMMATES
[5:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I guess like Clam Blitz.
[5:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: SO HOPEFULLY PEOPLE STOP STAYING ON THE VERY CORNER OF THE MAP SCREAMING "THIS WAY"
[5:10 PM] HeavyLobster: Nobody will use it though. But still a cool idea.
[5:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Salmon Run "Next Wave"
[5:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Summer 2022"
[5:11 PM] HeavyLobster: Summer 2022 is what I expected but it's good to confirm that.
[5:11 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well I'm glad that the best mode from Splatoon 2 is coming to Splatoon 3, though that will make Splatoon 2 utterly outclassed, won't it?
[5:12 PM] HeavyLobster: Maybe.
[5:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Gameloft SE is making a new Disney racing game, because I guess RARE Ltd. can't do so anymore.
[5:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Now with PIXAR and more than just Mickey Mouse series.
[5:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...and free-to-play games-as-a-service.
[5:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I miss when Gameloft was making Sexy Poker. :(
[5:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Look how much they've fallen.
[5:14 PM] HeavyLobster: Port dump segment.
[5:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: But these aren't cloud versions, right?
[5:15 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Triumphant return of Chrono Chross?!
[5:15 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Radical Dreamers Edition.
[5:15 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Okay so it's like the FF9 port.
[5:15 PM] HeavyLobster: Is this the Mitsuda thing?
[5:15 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "remaster"
[5:16 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "NEWLY ENHANCED SOUNDTRACK"
[5:16 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And the Radical Dreamers originally released on the Satellaview is coming.
[5:16 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: APRIL 7 2022
[5:16 PM] HeavyLobster: Kirby time.
[5:16 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Uh...
[5:16 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...is he gonna be okay?
[5:17 PM] HeavyLobster: Car Kirby!
[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: How about Plane Kirby?
[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Mouthful Mode"
[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Car Mouth"

Kirby and the Forgotten Land Mouthful Mode Car Mouth
...This is... not a pretty cool design.

[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Vending Mouth"
[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Cone Mouth"
[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ??????
[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Is...this...the gimmick???
[5:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Scissor-Lift Mouth"
[5:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Ring Mouth" "Light-Bulb Mouth" "Arch Mouth" "Water-Balloon Mouth"
[5:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This seems reminiscent of the inanimate objects Cappy can possess.
[5:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Like rocks.
[5:18 PM] HeavyLobster: I'll take it.
[5:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Waddle Dee Town works can upgrade copy abilities that make them more powerful while also changing looks.
[5:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: furrybait boss
[5:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: THEY'RE ALL FURRYBAIT BOSSES
[5:20 PM] HeavyLobster: This was announced I believe.
[5:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: It was, though with only one Japanese guy talking at a time.
[5:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (MLB The Show 2022)
[5:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Cloud collections dump?
[5:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Or at least Kingdom Hearts.
[5:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece for Cloud"
[5:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (Not Cloud Strife)
[5:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Klonoa collection for the Switch; don't know if cloud.
[5:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...And... Portal?
[5:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Portal: Companion Collection.
[5:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...I didn't expect that'd come to the Switch ever.
[5:22 PM] HeavyLobster: Still no Xenosaga.
[5:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Available This Year" (very vague)
[5:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "A Classic Comes Alive" which one?
[5:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Legend" "is" "Alive" "A"
[5:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Live A Live??
[5:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well, I guess Captain Stitch needs to write a review of that.
[5:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: In HD-2D.
[5:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: https://www.koopatv.org/2021/08/live-live-best-game-youve-never-heard-of.html
[5:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: 'cause this looks a lot better than it was on Super Famicom.
[5:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: July 22.
[5:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Okay so I thought it was pronounced Live a Live, like, I'm living.
[5:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: WII SPORTS?
[5:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...nevermind
[5:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS
[5:24 PM] HeavyLobster: Nice
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Now with Joy-Cons and not Wiimotes.
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Tennis, Bowling...
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...And Chambara.
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: RIP boxing?
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Plus three additional sports.
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Soccer.
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: LEG STRAP?
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: LEG STRAP?!!?
[5:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: IS THIS HOW THEY'RE EXPANDING RING FIT ADVENTURE??
[5:26 PM] HeavyLobster: Baseball was best Wii Sport smh.
[5:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: BY SELLING WAGGLE SPORTS TO PEOPLE WHO OWN LEG STRAPS?
[5:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: There's also Badminton and Volleyball. All sports support online play.
[5:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: The avatars aren't Miis.
[5:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: The one game they're giving additional attention to is this.
[5:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: With a live commentated match in Volleyball with Takahashi and Koizumi.
[5:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Black NPC beats the Japanese.
[5:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: But they got revenge.
[5:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Let's stop our match here" good idea.
[5:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...They're adding Golf in a post-launch update.
[5:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Online Play Test planned"
[5:29 PM] HeavyLobster: I liked Golf.
[5:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: They want my help on February 18 to 20 in bowling, chambara, and tennis.
[5:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I guess I better help...
[5:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: More headlines.
[5:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Like a Taiko game.
[5:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...with... MEGALOVANIA
[5:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
[5:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Ooh Triangle Strategy. :D
[5:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: NEW DEMO
[5:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...later today.
[5:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Transferrable save data.
[5:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Up to Chapter 3.
[5:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I'll help myself to that, yes.
[5:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: That's a much better way to spend my weekend than the NintendoVS Challenge Cup February 2021.
[5:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Metroid Dread new update?
[5:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: One-hit-death mode?
[5:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ("Dread Mode")
[5:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Plus a "Rookie Mode"
[5:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And there will be a Boss Rush mode coming April 2022.
[5:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Something's Bound for Nintendo Switch"
[5:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...EarthBound, that is.
[5:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I guess cynics that said that Nintendo would stop releasing games on NES and SNES after the Expansion Pack are wrong.
[5:34 PM] HeavyLobster: They finally acknowledged the franchise.
[5:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And EarthBound Beginnings too but apparently no one cares about it.
[5:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Available later today.
[5:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (I can't recommend it, quite frankly.)
[5:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And here's a new zombie game like it's the 2000s.
[5:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Or 2010s.
[5:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Oh it's a full montage.
[5:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: .........
[5:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well that ended quickly. Which is good.
[5:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: They've... "remastered select courses" for Mari0 Kart 8 Deluxe as "paid downloadable content".
[5:36 PM] HeavyLobster: Mario Kart 8DLC
[5:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Including Coconut Mall from Wii.
[5:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And...wotever these other courses are.
[5:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Booster Course Pass"
[5:37 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "8 courses to be released at a time over 6 waves by the end of 2023"
[5:37 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So...
[5:37 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Wasn't there a fake news story about how there's a new game to be announced?
[5:37 PM] HeavyLobster: Everyone already has MK8D.
[5:38 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "You can enjoy this DLC at no additional cost if you have the Expansion Pack"
[5:38 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (For Nintendo Switch Online)
[5:38 PM] HeavyLobster: So this is to sell the Expansion.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass MSRP Waves
I'm quite confident some Nintendo executive was wondering why they weren't extracting more money from their number one best-selling Switch game.
And so the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass came to be.

[5:38 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Last announcement.
[5:38 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So is this Xenoblade 3?
[5:39 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "I knew it, I saw this coming."
[5:39 PM] HeavyLobster: It looks like it.
[5:39 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well there were Nopons.
[5:39 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So...
[5:40 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ....and it says Xenoblade Chronicles 3 at the end.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 logo key art title
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 isn't fake news! See? It's real.

[5:40 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "September 2022"
[5:40 PM] HeavyLobster: It's real. I legit got a shiver.
[5:40 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Apparently combines Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2.
[5:40 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ('cause X is being written out of existence I guess)
[5:41 PM] HeavyLobster: Sometimes silence is the most powerful reaction. I don't know how to process it.
[5:42 PM] HeavyLobster: But that was a pretty good Direct overall.
[5:42 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I figure that means you didn't have AAAAHHHH moments ('cause I didn't).
[5:43 PM] HeavyLobster: It'll take time to rewatch and process everything.
[5:44 PM] HeavyLobster: I mean Xenoblade 3 had me go crazy to the point of silence. Like I blanked out from excitement.
[5:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well I wanna know more about the Chrono Cross stuff they're doing. ^_^
[5:45 PM] HeavyLobster: But it's coming in September and it's real. My baby is really coming home.
[5:45 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...is that rushed? :x
[5:46 PM] HeavyLobster: Not if they've been working on it since Torna, which was in 2018. The XB1 remaster was a side project.
[5:47 PM] HeavyLobster: So it's been in development for like 4 years.
[5:48 PM] HeavyLobster: I'm gonna need a moment.
[5:48 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Alright.
[5:48 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...I'll download the Triangle Strategy demo then. :)
[5:49 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...nevermind I don't think it's available yet.
[5:49 PM] HeavyLobster: Also Vandham is back with the same voice as in Xenoblade 2.
[5:51 PM] HeavyLobster: But we've got both Gormotti and High Entia, so that's a big win.
[5:53 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I'm wondering when Nintendo is gonna shut down the Splatoon 2 servers, but then I remembered Splatoon 1's are still up.
[5:53 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Oh, Triangle Strategy Prologue Demo is up.
[5:55 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Alright, gonna play Ring Fit Adventure with my Leg Strap! ...And I don't plan to ever use that for Nintendo Switch Sports.

  1. LiveALive, buy it. You will not regret it. More of my thoughts to come later, but buy LiveALive.

    1. Consider LIVE A LIVE is $50 and Chrono Cross is... $20.

    2. Ouch. More than I thought it would be, but I suppose to be fair it has never officially been released in the west. I don't know what other features square put into their actraiser remaster, but this one looks to have a lot more care put into it. I don't think a sound/art gallery is completely out of the question and all those factors combined softens the price blow for me. Could just be the (newfound) nostalgia talking....

    3. Well unlike Chrono Cross, Square hasn't announced wot sort of feature set Live A Live gets, so more to come.

  2. Chrono Cross, Live A Live, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, aaaaahhh!

And Xenoblade Chronicles X isn't being written out of existence, it's just separate from the others. They would have to retcon it to tie it in with them.

    1. It's written out of existence in terms of our existence, not necessarily the Xenoblade universe.

We're supposed to forget about it.

  3. What a direct, What a direct! Now this seems like a definitive moment where there was something for everyone, I'm fortunate enough to be extremely pleased by multiple things! And then even announced it the day before, which is wonderful because I can't stand waiting in anticipation for the unknown. But anyway, what did your venerable Gordo rolemodel think specifically? To quote Chief Book'ems wife, "Well let's see!"

Kirby- Alright! I am still very excited for this game. My biggest joy however was hearing the music, the little snippet of the battle theme sounds great, and I'm glad they aren't using the music from the first reveal trailer. Like what even was that, didn't have that Kirby sound to it at all. The Beast Pack or whatever their called is cool, and I like a lot of their designs. I do wonder what enemies Kirby is gonna have after this seeing how they already did robots, (now) animals, and cosmic destroyers. Probably more cosmic destroyers. While some of the beast pack are just wonderfully kooky, I did notice a cat looking member who immediately made me sigh in pain. I just know that she is going to be rule 34'd right after the game comes out. I mean I could have sworn I saw actual curvy hips, and those characters always get it the worst. I think the Mouthful mechanic is the dumbest gimmick yet and frankly unnecessary, but it will probably be fun to mess with and exclusive to this game, so I don't mind it that much. The waddle dee town looks great, and i'm glad we can upgrade copy abilities again. While i do care a lot about our environment, I laughed quite a bit when the narrator talked about how the waddle town will get upgraded and cut to a shot of a sizable forest of trees immediately getting chopped down. I can't wait for SOMEBODY to legitimately complain about that. Also around 18 seconds in the trailer, on the closeup shot of Kirby getting ready to suck in the beasties, his eyes are two different colors. I know it's not the glare, it's fun to find these little things.

Portal- I've always wanted to play Portal so this announcement makes me very happy indeed. I am surprised the trailer had such a lack of spoilers, it's almost refreshing. If I didn't already know the complete lore of portal, I would think it is a much happier game based on the trailer. Definitely buying/renting as soon as I can.

Switch Sports- Just reminds me of all the things the switch is missing when compared to past consoles, eshop music being a big offender. I'm not big into these games, but it's another great way to get the family involved. I doubt it will capture the same Wii audience, but it's nice to see that Miis and the Wii's legacy isn't completely dead. As for those titular Miis, they are both in the game and haver been replaced. The presenters used Miis but played against those uncanny valley humanoid things. I really don't see the point of having different customizable characters other than Miis. Miis have been around for a long time and have tons of customization features, you'd be starting from scratch with these all new representors. Oh and don't think I didn't catch that little "joke" about this segment. Asians have taken it upon themselves to stop that hate, or at least Nintendo has.

Strikers- Never played the original but I'm glad this series is returning. Although sports games are a dime a dozen, Nintendo always makes there's so unique. Since I'm unfamiliar with the previous game the super moves shown off in the trailer look cool to me, but could be devastating to the overall experience. Ala Mario golf, and all the game play changes that game made. Still, I hold out hope that they game will be god and the IP successfully revived.

    1. Splatoon 3- I'm not big into Splatoon, probably because multiplayer has never been my thing. I play too many RPGs! Nevertheless I remember KoopaTV talking about this mode and am happy to see it included here. I heard you mention that Splatoon 2 doesn't have anything worthy of people going back to it now that this info is known, which reminded me of when you said the same thing about smash 4. I don't know about Splatoon 2 but smash four has CUSTOM MOVES, remember those? Although it may be a small (and completely broken) feature, that still counts for something. Sorry went off on a tangent there. Back to Splatoon 3, I thought that the boss fights and premise was interesting but the trailer itself felt really slow. More like something you'd see at a Splatoon 3 only direct, not a main one where your trying to grab people from every background. Just my two cents.

Earthbound- WELL IT"S ABOUT TIME. Nothing much to say here except that I am extremely happy that more people can play this game. And on the go too! The GBA version is a inferior port and the "NEW Nintendo 3ds" version completely excluded original 3ds owners. Although I suppose this excludes non Nintendo online users. Beginnings is good too, but ironically not for beginners. These games STINK!

Mario Kart- Why make a new game when the new one is selling just as well as when it first released? 46-48 new tracks is a pretty big deal so I suppose the dlc price isn't so bad. I just hope that it won't consist of too many Super Mario Kart Iphone tracks, those ones aren't nearly as creative as the console ones. I am surprised that all the smash bros characters haven't joined the racer roster yet, although I certainly don't want them to.

Chrono Cross- I can't believe this, and you know i caught the in-joke the narrator made when he said to see what different endings would TRIGGER. Very excited I am as I love Chrono trigger. Yeah I know this one is way different, but not leagues different. My only concern is that the backgrounds look very flat. I don't know if they were going for this with the original release, but the PlayStation graphics made things look pretty normal whereas the characters just stick out a bit more than I'd like them to.

MLB the Show- Who was that Old guy, and why was he a puppet?

      Delete
    2. Xenoblade- Again, not too into it myself but I know a loooooooooooooooooot of people are so I'm happy for them. Currently playing through the first game, not too bad so far, but sooooo many features and text boxes that either don't explain things well or are complete information overloads. As such I want to try to get around the the rest of this series, but it will definitely take time. Maybe even years, I imagine.

LiveALive- I was standing when I saw it, but I would have jumped out of my seat if I had been sitting. I like to wait until the Direct is over so can skip through all the boring stuff. I typed in Nintendo Direct into YouTube and the direct itself was the second result, the LiveaLive announcement was the first. That YouTube algorithm can be scary sometimes, but I was too busy jumping for joy to notice. I'm a little hesitant about the 2.5D style as I think it makes the games look darker then they were before, but just the idea of anyone in the west learning about this game and helping it become more mainstream makes me squeal. Which I did, and I'm glad that nobody else was around. I've already written a review on the game and I doubt the story itself should change at all, but I will gladly do another review of this game. I think it may even be voice acted based on some of the clips I heard it the trailer, THAT is exciting indeed. I also heard a couple remastered tracks and you know I am completely into that. I don't think i can recall the last videogame I played that actually had a bad soundtrack. Speaking of other games... In the last two years I played "The world ends with you", "Actraiser", "Beneath a Steel Sky", and of course LiveALive. All of these games got sequels or remasters and I couldn't be happier. I played other games of course, but all of them were from active or already satisfyingly completed series. It's always nice to get remakes, but specifically games like TWEWY or LiveAlive whilst appreciated never really got the chance to shine they deserved upon initial release. TWEWY still isn't but things could change for LiveALive. Heck, I think the developers may have said something about doing more with the series if they could, and this could be their gateway to that. IT's all so very exciting, and I hope the staff at KoopaTV decided to purchase the game to see for themselves. IT's a unique experience regardless.

Conclusion- Whelp that's all of it. If you actually read all that then I commend you, I know I tend to skim things sometimes so no shame in that either. So excited for all these releases, now to try to avoid the inevitable spoilers. Gah! These are such aggravatingly fun times. Most satisfactory.

  4. No BotW 2 news, boooooooo. But I do appreciate (and have already begun) the longer Triangle Strategy demo. And being able to play Earthbound will be cool.

Technically, it's a step in the vague direction of releasing Mother 3 in the US. I've never been quite clear on just what's stopped them for so long anyway. Is it just copyright issues? It sounds more complicated than that afaik (which isn't much.)

    2. Yeah, that's the exact thing of it at the moment. They managed to finally get Banjo-Kazooie back, after all. So I just have to wonder, what's the actual deal?

    3. Perhaps they're going to release it as a limited-time sellable item like the first Fire Emblem.

    4. Pffff, THAT will go over well if you turn out to be right...like Super Mario 3D All Stars went over well. XD XD XD

    5. Well, 3D All-Stars sold extremely well as a fear-of-missing-out item.
The first Fire Emblem, also limited-time, flopped. <_<

    6. They say Mother 3 won’t be released because of todays PC culture. Reggie the NPC as well as the magical people who may or may not be trans/non-binary. There’s also a very specific moment with Lucas that is meant to be awkward but in the worst kind of way. Everything I just mentioned is still done in a completely respectful way, but people love comparing today and I don’t think Nintendo wants to deal with that.

OR, it could be my personal theory, nintendo is saving it for a rainy day. Say another WiiU happens and pay cuts aren’t enough to save the company, releasing MOTHER certainly would as it’s garnered enough hype and recognition that even non dedicated Nintendo fans would get it out of interest. Not to mention all the streamers who would stream it just because it’d be so unbelievable.

    7. I wouldn't know about today's PC culture or not, but as for your personal theory, it might be undermined by MOTHER 1 and 2 being released...you know, right now. 'cause why would that happen?

    8. Sorry I forgot to add the 3. Releasing MOTHER 3 would bring big sales. No one cares about beginnings and even though many care about earthbound, it’s not to the same extent. Although I’d argue my theory still works even with the “typo” I made. It has been awhile since the last snes/nes game update and the last few have been stinkers anyway. Giving us the MOTHER series out of all the games they could have given us means they think the series has enough value to garner returned interest in nes/snes online.

    9. Reminder that by generating interest in the Expansion Pack, Nintendo is also generating interest in Nintendo Switch Online in general (NES+SNES) because you can't get Expansion Pack separately, obviously.

    10. I wonder if more people would get the expansion pack separately if they could. Honestly if Nintendo made that an option it would probably take a lot of the heat off of them. I think people value N64 games a lot more than both Snes and Nes games. Because y’know, emulation. It’s so much easier for the latter than the former.

    11. I'd value SNES games more because they're usually* better. (And there's more.)

      *Exceptions include PM vs. SMRPG

    12. Again, I don't think 3D All Stars sold all that well...at least in my area. Idk, maybe in more urban areas the FOMO stuff happened? But when it was announced, and when it was released, I heard a lot of talk about not buying it out of protest or something.
