KoopaTV's Live Reactions to The Game Awards 2021

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Hate-watching.

After KoopaTV's readers commented to us asking us to skip The Game Awards 2021... well, here we are. If you want to know why, it's because of this exchange between myself and Kamek:

Ludwig Von Koopa — 11/30/2021
So wot am I doing the night of December 9?
Working out in Ring Fit Adventure? ...Or watching The Game Awards? <_<
Kamek — 11/30/2021
Hmm
Ludwig Von Koopa — 11/30/2021
Keep in mind that I dunno wot content to produce on Dec 9 that wouldn't be related to TGA.
But it's very likely that it's a bad experience as it is every year with little interesting content.
Kamek — 11/30/2021
Perhaps that in and of itself is good content
The celebration of bad content
Ludwig Von Koopa — 11/30/2021
It is, though it's less a celebration and more moaning for hours.
Kamek — 11/30/2021
I believe that's the past time of the generation
Complaining and nitpicking
Ludwig Von Koopa — 11/30/2021
That is a hobby of mine, yes.

So he tricked me into concluding that this terrible three-hour+ rigged award show is just engaging in a hobby. With that said, please try to enjoy me not enjoying my Thursday night (with a cameo by Heavy Lobster at the end asking if there was any noteworthy Nintendo announcement... spoiler alert: there ain't):

[7:54 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS4m2O3V93o
[7:54 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I don't want to watch this.
[7:54 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Kamek said I should watch it because he thinks it'd be entertaining.
[7:55 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Coming in to seeing Forza Horizon 5 won the Best Audio Design. ...Huh.
[7:55 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This is the "preshow" and I guess they never learned that you shouldn't put awards in preshows if this is supposed to be a legitimate award show?
[7:58 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: If you're expecting wotever this KoopaTV log will end up being to be a decent recap of The Game Awards 2021, you'll be disappointed because I'm not really paying attention.
[7:59 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: There's a Persona trailer in this preshow.
[7:59 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Is Persona 5 coming to the Switch?
[7:59 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...No, but some... Persona 4 fighting game is.
[7:59 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Persona4 Arena Ultimax" why couldn't Joker show up to this instead of plaguing Super Smash Bros?
[8:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And if the answer is "Well Joker wasn't in Persona 4 but 5", that didn't stop Persona 4 stuff from coming to Smash Bros. too.
[8:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Some dude is singing on stage now that it's officially begun, "DON'T YOU LOVE WHO I AMMMMMM?" And the answer, if "I" is The Game Awards, is no.
[8:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This stage has a whole live studio audience of people wearing masks.
[8:05 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Allegedly, the fate of the free-thinking world is in our hands tonight. Geoff Keighley really has elevated himself to a ridiculous level of unwarranted self-importance! ...And the major videogame publishers are enablers of this.
[8:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Annoyingly, Nintendo is a big supporter of The Game Awards (and they have a dedicated sale for it), and yet that opening montage almost entirely omits their console.
[8:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "This is a night for the fans!"
"This is why we do this show, to honor the creators of games!"
Aren't these contradictory?
[8:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Geoff Keighley says "we will not tolerate abuse or harassment or predatory practices by ANYONE, including our online communities!"
[8:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Yeah, blame the gaming communities for Activision being a crappy workplace???
[8:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And... that's the end of his soapbox, without namedropping any offenders or anything. What a weakling.
[8:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I just totally sat through this supposedly gameplay trailer of Hellblade 2 and said nothing.
[8:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Geoff Keighley is advocating people to be mad at The Game Awards with YouTube Shorts.
[8:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: oh no
[8:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: DRAG QUEENS
[8:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: NOOOOOOOOOOO

The Game Awards 2021 drag queen makeup videogames
It's hard to argue against people who say that gatekeeping hobbies is a good thing.
(That said, they do get credit for joining me in spelling videogame as one word.)

[8:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This is some kind of "global gaming citizen" thing.
[8:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: DRAG QUEENS INTO A NINTENDO SWITCH SNAP??
[8:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I think this is a literal commercial.
[8:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: For Indie World.
[8:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Bethesda's commercial was a scrolling wheel of free game code giveaways and jokes.
[8:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Bethesda actually probably did a favour to its viewers because if you're busy stopping the stream to put in a game code, that means you've stopped watching The Game Awards, which is only a good thing.
[8:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: They gave Maggie Robertson (Lady A. from Resident Evil Village) the Best Performance Award.
[8:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: erm
[8:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Lady D.
[8:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: She's barely wearing clothing.
[8:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...So I'm NOT gonna take a screenshot of that.
[8:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ......
[8:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Oh, Sonic the Hedgehog's movie voice actor.
[8:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: He's... obnoxious.
[8:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Reminds me of Ben Shapiro.
[8:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Probably because his name is Ben Schwartz.
[8:38 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And now they're showing the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
[8:40 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: In theatres April 8, 2022. ...wotever
[8:42 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Horizon Forbidden West trailer into.... musical number.
[8:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: It's time for a "special and long-awaited announcement"
[8:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: wtf
[8:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: SEPHIROTH?
[8:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: BUT SEPHIROTH ALREADY GOT ANNOUNCED FOR SMASH
[8:45 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...oh, it's Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for... the Epic Games Store.
[8:48 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Nintendo Switch snap, but it's another commercial of all the Nintendo Switch games that got snubbed at The Game Awards.
[8:49 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Customary anti-vaping commercial/propaganda.
[8:50 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Some actor is doing the "I'm staring at my mobile phone" bit to announce the next game award.
[8:51 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "so instead of playing Halo I'm at The Game Awards presenting the Best Action Award"
[8:51 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And instead of, say, playing Pokémon Shining Pearl I'm here. Though I suppose I could do both at the same time, but I want to listen to the game's awesome music, too...
[8:54 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This WORLD PREMIERE is mentioning Mars, and I'm just thinking of the Team Galactic Commander.
[8:56 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (The premiere was of Destiny 2 The Witch Queen)
[8:56 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Some dumb Japanese game developer asked Keighley months ago to announce their project at The Game Awards.
[8:56 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...And it's apparently the Silent Hill guy at Bokeh Game Studio Inc.
[8:56 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Keiichiro Toyama.
[8:56 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Bad judgment.
[8:57 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Splitterhead"
[8:57 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: It did feature someone's head getting split into two.
[9:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This new world premiere trailer mentioned something about "leading us further into this nightmare". And now we're done with hour one of The Game Awards. ...More nightmare to come.
[9:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ("Nightingale")
[9:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I think I just saw "Likely Mature 17+" as an ESRB rating for the first time.
[9:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So it's not ESRB-rated yet, but they're aiming for M!
[9:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Another musical performance... this time for Cuphead.

The Game Awards 2021 Cuphead Delicious Last Course orchestra musical performance
This was... pretty nice, actually.

[9:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I dunno how to feel about this. ...I guess it's probably the best thing of The Game Awards so far.
[9:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Are they only singing The Delicious Last Course?
[9:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...do we get more?
[9:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: The more is DLC.
[9:11 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Canonically called DLC Island.
[9:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: OH.
[9:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: DELICIOUS LAST COURSE
[9:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: DLC
[9:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...OKAY I get it.
[9:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And that transitions to the next Sonic game trailer.
[9:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This doesn't seem like a Sonic game trailer though.
[9:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: It's all choir singing noises.
[9:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Sonic Frontiers" "Holiday 2022"
[9:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well that told... us nothing about it.
[9:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "This is Hideo Kojima."
[9:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: He promises to be at The Game Awards 2022. ...I hope we're not there.
[9:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Halo Infinite won the "Players' Voice" award.
[9:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Geoff isn't even naming what the nominees are.
[9:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Dream" won "content creator of the year"
[9:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...isn't he a fraud?
[9:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Genshin Impact" won "best mobile game" wot a terrible category.
[9:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: There's this propaganda about black people right now.
[9:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "A Lesson in Blackness" podcast.
[9:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Much victimhood.
[9:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Best Narrative" award, which excludes The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
[9:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy won.
[9:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Right now they're threatening us not to speak of anything we're about to see.
[9:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So I won't. Easy decision.
[9:38 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (I'm not quiet still because of the gag order but 'cause I ain't got anythin' to contribute.)
[9:49 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Metroid Dread won the Game Award for best action/adventure game.
[9:49 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So I guess I gotta pay attention.

The Game Awards Best Action Adventure Metroid Dread Doug Bowser acceptance speech
Doug Bowser's appearance, and the most that Nintendo even appeared throughout.

[9:49 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Doug Bowser seems to have prepared his speech unlike other award recipients, like he knew ahead of time.
[9:50 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...He even has comments he pulled out his jacket.
[9:50 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: If I recall, The Game Awards claims no one knows who wins until it's revealed on stage?
[9:52 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa:
Are game companies made aware of the nominees or winners in advance of the public?

No, game developers and publishers, including the Advisory Board, find out the nominees and winners at the same time as the public. The Game Awards does not disclose winners in advance of the live ceremony. There are no exceptions to this rule.
[9:52 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: That's from their website.
[9:52 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (The comments came from the developers, I think that means from Mercury Steam)
[9:53 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (Would be pretty bad if they never got their words read out!)
[9:57 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Among Us Virtual Reality... into a Korean pop music video performance???
[9:57 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ................................................................................................................................................

The Game Awards 2021 Kpop Korean pop music video animation girls
?????????
Is this for The Game Awards or for The Asian Music Awards?
It's hard to see how this should be a winner in either of those!

[9:57 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Yeeah this might be worse than the drag queens.
[9:59 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Now there's a Genshin Impact character premiere.
[10:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...I miss when there was generic shooty stuff I didn't have anything to say about instead of stuff that's actively cringe or ugh.
[10:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (Seems like "Likely Mature 17+" is a regular normal thing.)
[10:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Reggie Fils-Aime?!
[10:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Why?
[10:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Amongst friends"
[10:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Quality free-to-play games" says Reggie.
[10:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Reggie is presenting the award for the best on-going game.
[10:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Reggie's a sell-out.
[10:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: He awarded it to Final Fantasy XIV Online, which also won best community support.
[10:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well, I guess that's the best outcome.
[10:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Reggie is shaking hands with the guys wearing masks.
[10:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: That defeats the whole purpose of wearing the mask if you're just going to spread germs with handshakes.
[10:11 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Wotever this current game trailer is is exclusively female on male violence.
[10:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Not a single man is able to successfully beat up a woman in this.
[10:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: But a woman mercilessly clobbers every guy.
[10:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Rumbleverse" is the game name.
[10:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Wot's the point of having men and women in a beat-em-up if you're not allowed to touch the women?
[10:19 PM] HeavyLobster: Any noteworthy Nintendo announcements yet?
[10:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: No.
[10:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: There also aren't unnoteworthy Nintendo announcements, either.
[10:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: But Fortnite has sliding now.
[10:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Which looks cool, actually.
[10:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Now there's an Imagine Dragons performance for a "once in a lifetime" performance.
[10:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...
[10:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well, I hope that's only once in my lifetime.
[10:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well, the Game Award for Innovation in Accessibility wasn't very accessible in presenting how it was accessible.
[10:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: 'cause it had the Game Awards overlay obscuring the text that's supposed to explain that.
[10:31 PM] HeavyLobster: Accessibility = Dumbing down games for complete morons
[10:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: There was something about an on-screen in-game sign language interpreter option.
[10:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Which I want to know more about because that sounds... novel.
[10:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: There's a commercial portraying a US Army member who came home from a war just to get crippled in a motorcycle accident.
[10:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: That SUCKS.
[10:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And I guess that ties back to accessibility.
[10:36 PM] HeavyLobster: Fuck Raid Shadow Legends.
[10:37 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I used to think motorcycles were cool until Mari0 Kart Wii got me to hate them.
[10:40 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Donald Mustard appearance.
[10:42 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Awarding Deathloop for Best Game Direction.
[10:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: League of Legends won best eSports.
[10:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: WHAT
[10:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: BEST FAMILY GAME
[10:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "IT TAKES TWO" WON
[10:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...NINTENDO LOST THE NINTENDO CATEGORY

The Game Awards 2021 Best Family Game award winner It Takes Two Nintendo lost
Nintendo lost the Nintendo category. That's... hilarious. And it lost to It Takes Two?!

[10:44 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: LOL
[10:45 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Did Keighley just reference Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon by singling out Reggie Fils-Aime to hide his Wing Spear?
[10:45 PM] HeavyLobster: Elden Ring is not more anticipated than BOTW2.
[10:47 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (The Wing Spear is one of the best weapons in that game and why Shiida is a top unit, since it has effectiveness damage against armour and cavalry units, and most enemy units in the game fall under that!)
[10:52 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Switch snap, new commercial.
[10:52 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I forgot Mari0 + Rabbids Sparks of Hope existed.
[10:52 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...I kinda liked it that way.
[10:53 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Bayonetta 3 still allegedly releasing in 2022.
[10:55 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Isn't this supposed to end in a few minutes?
[10:59 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Nah, gotta have special guests for a special moment, with Keanu Reeves.
[11:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ....is this a game?
[11:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: No, The Matrix Resurrections is a film.
[11:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Why is it here?
[11:01 PM] HeavyLobster: You're not supposed to advertise movies at TGA unless they have a few QTEs mixed in.
[11:01 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "But getting back to tonight's theme which is interactive entertainment..." says Keighley.
[11:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Oh, there is a Matrix videogame.
[11:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: As the FINAL world premiere.
[11:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Sooo...
[11:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...To answer your first question, no.
[11:04 PM] HeavyLobster: So the "leakers" predicting BOTW2/XC3 were just talking out of their asses like usual?
[11:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: As usual.
[11:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I feel like people keep saying that they'll stop believing FAKE NEWS "leakers" and then... keep believing them anyway.
[11:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: SAD.
[11:05 PM] HeavyLobster: I want to believe but I always assumed it was probably bullshit.
[11:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: One's first and only instinct should be to never believe anything good comes out of The Game Awards.
[11:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Though this Metroid theme played by The Game Awards orchestra is pretty nice.
[11:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...while it lasted.
[11:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: The 2021 Game of the Year is... It Takes Two.
[11:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: How did Josef Fares's game win "Best Family Game" when he just swears constantly?
[11:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: He's on stage talking about his children.
[11:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "If you don't have children, go get them!"
[11:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well, then I guess that's how he won Best Family Game???
[11:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And it's over.
[11:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Finally.
[11:11 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Still wish I played Pokémon Shining Pearl with that time.

If you look through the log, Ludwig's most excited moment was seeing Sephiroth on the screen again. ...That's pretty pathetic. What was YOUR takeaway from this miserable slog?

You can read The Game Awards 2020's live reaction log here, but it immediately goes downhill after the opening Sephiroth reveal.
Ludwig also hate-watched The Game Awards 2022, but at least that had a hilarious ending.

  1. I’m grateful I wasn’t there in person, as soon as I saw the drag queens I would have mentally checked out of the event. Not to mention amoung us stuff, honestly this whole event was cringe.

In regards to the “leaks” I knew it wasn’t going to happen. This is Nintendo, when do they ever give out info on a big game that isn’t in a direct? Even if Doug Bowser wanted to do it, I doubt he has the power to. It seemed like miyamoto, Reggie, and Iwata had a pretty good bond. But I don’t know if I could say the same for miyamoto, Doug, and the new Nintendo president. Do you think Doug bowsers position hold even less power because of this? Actually, has there ever been a time when the NA president was able to push nintendo into doing anything at all?

    1. I was mentally checked out from the start as someone who wasn't there in person. (I'd think you'd need to be an invited industry fellow.)

I'd be interested on your thoughts for how Joker and Sephiroth got revealed at these if you believe Nintendo won't give out info on a big game that ain't a Direct. Those DLC characters might be more profitable than entire games.

I'll refrain from speculating on the inner Nintendo power structure because I have no idea.

    2. I can see your point about the DLC, but I think that’s just more of a coincidence. I don’t think Nintendo expected them to sell quite as much as they do, or rather knows how much a particular fighter will sell. They know jokers popular, but who’s to say he’ll bring in more profit than classic characters Banjo and Kazooie. At least not as much as say Breath 2 or oddesy 2, should the later be announced. I think they like to announce things on their own terms, but I wish they’d give us more than a days notice.

    3. Well they totally knew by Sephiroth's how popular DLC would be. And they had some kind of baseline for DLC popularity for Smash 4.

Funny you mention that, since in The Game Awards, they showed off The Legend of Zelda for Wii U, AKA proto-BotW.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SECWlFInyFM
(This was back when it was gonna release in 2015. Allegedly.)
(We live-reacted to it at https://www.koopatv.org/2014/12/koopatv-live-reacts-the-game-awards-second-half.html

Then there was breaking BotW footage showed in 2016's.

    4. Wow I did not know that. Nintendo cares more about the game awards then I thought. Maybe we should all follow in their stead and care more, about the game awards.

On the game awards, it’s really so subjective isn’t it? I mean so are movie awards, but you can still enjoy any movie. Maybe it’s so bad it’s good, or it’s not in your interest field but you like one of the actors. Games require actual effort and more hours than a movie, so if you don’t like a genre, there’s really no way to change that. You can sit through a bad movie and maybe enjoy it toward the end, but who’s gonna play through 12 hours of a game they don’t even like? Game journalists won’t even play 2 hours of games they do like!

    5. Regarding game journalists, reminder that The Game Awards says 90% of the decisions is made up of a jury of mainstream videogame journalists, while 10% is made up by "the people."

Of course, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles didn't get nominated for anything despite having a mode that plays itself. You'd think game journalists would like that. >.>

  2. It Takes Two is about parents about to go through a divorce. If that is considered a Family Game then Metroid Dread should have been nominated for Family Game too based on what goes on in that game.

Also no screenshot of Sheriff Winchester the cow in this live reaction?

    1. In the interest of transparency, I didn't notice Sheriff Winchester when watching it live.
Only after the fact at your notice.

If Metroid Dread would've been nominated, it still would've lost!

  3. I would have never expected an indie game winning GOTY, but I am just glad that it was not Deathloop that won. I'm also satisfied that Metroid, Guardians, and Kena won best action/adventure, narrative, and independent game, respectively. The overall show was a hot mess as usual but somehow was still less disappointing than this year's E3 as a whole, at least to me. My favorite announcements would probably have to be Alan Wake 2 and the Fall Guys collab with The Nightmare Before Christmas. As for my favorite moment, it would have to be when the orchestra played Dread's main theme although I really liked the Cuphead bit as well.

    1. I vastly preferred E3 2021 to The Game Awards 2021!
With E3 2021, if you want to watch actual game announcements without social justice commercials mixed in, you could mostly do that by avoiding those conferences entirely, like the Take-Two DIE roundtable.
