Ketchup vs. Mayo? Again? Encore Splatfest!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - We have a decision to make... And not between Ketchup and Mayonnaise.

I really miss articles like Condiment Conflict: Mayonnaise vs. Ketchup Splatfest! Not only is the headline cool, but it's about the Splatoon 2 Splatfests, which we have covered very extensively on KoopaTV, all the way back to the beginnings of the first Splatoon on Wii U.

The Splatfests have been done with for a year now, and major Splatoon 2 content updates as well. (Though there still are sporadic balance/bug fixes.)

But Nintendo made a recent push with a free demo of Splatoon 2 at the end of April 2020, and as part of that push, there will be an encore Splatfest this weekend of Mayonnaise versus Ketchup. If you want to know why I'm siding with Team Ketchup, check out that Condiment Conflict article. My reasoning remains the same.

Something else remains the same as well...

I'm not writing this article to relitigate Mayonnaise versus Ketchup (even though Team Ketchup lost back in 2017, and you better believe that I'm going to play Splatoon 2 this weekend to get revenge). I'm writing it to complain, and to give a warning and a question to you all.

My complaint is that these are the EXACT same statements from Pearl and Marina as they were in 2017, with no reference that this is a repeat performance. Basically, it's like the first one never happened, and it's very immersion-breaking in a series that prides itself on self-referencing and maintaining canon.

Maybe there are a lot of people who haven't experienced this Splatfest before, so to them, this is new. ...Well, I don't think rewriting history is a good way of teaching it. One note: It's quite possible the result will shift due to the clout system not being in place for the first Mayonnaise vs. Ketchup Splatfest. It's also 48 hours long instead of 24 hours long.

That's particularly problematic in a world where the Splatfest result becomes law. Will the law be overturned if the result differs?

I'm concerned about what happens if, say, this is wildly successful, and Nintendo decides that this isn't just some CCP Virus initiative but they really are going to redo all 27 Splatfests.

This is the same screenshot from the first article, except the dates at the top are different now.

How does KoopaTV handle that? Am I supposed to ignore it? Write an article every time? Should I just point to my existing Splatfest content? Do I have to form a new opinion? I mean, I already write an article every time Ace Attorney becomes on sale. Are Splatfests going to be on that level from now on?

You should answer the questions in the last paragraph in the comments section. Ludwig genuinely believed that the redone Splatfest would have new dialogue, similar to how Extra Fitness mode in Ring Fit Adventure has new dialogue from everyone referencing that you've played through the game before. Or, similar to how there is new dialogue in Splatoon 2's story mode if you go fight the final boss again.

WELL, THE SPLATFEST IS OVER... And... Team Ketchup won. That may be a bad thing for civilisation.
The next encore Splatfest is three months later, featuring Chicken vs. Egg.

  1. About one year ago, the time travel vs. teleportation Splatfest resulted in a clean sweep for Team Teleportation, so it is quite odd that Inkopolis has somehow reverted back into the past. Could it be due to Team Chaos winning what was presumed to be the final Splatfest? Has the balance of the universe shifted into total entropy in which past results are now meaningless? Will there be a paper vs. plastic Splatfest? Only time will tell.

"...or turn back the clock and claim the crown with #TeamKetchup?"

Time travel seems to be legal thanks to the victory of Chaos messing with the universe. We might not even playing a rematch of the Splatfest, but replaying the actual original match if the same exact dialogue is anything to go by.

    2. I wonder if it's a coincidence that Marina voted for Teleportation+Order, and obviously that's been redacted upon Pearl's choice, Chaos, being the final winner.

      ... >_>
