By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Time to find out what they're doing here. ...It's worse than I expected.
Back when we were still learning which companies would be represented at E3 2021, I singled out Verizon as a company I'm really curious in what they have to share. They're not a gaming company. They're an Internet service provider...but they also have been branching out and acquiring a lot of other things... though now they're selling off their digital media brands after buying them a few years ago, which... probably means they made a mistake and they realise it now. So what are they doing here if they realise going into news and entertainment wasn't a good bet for them?
Too bad I'm the only one on KoopaTV's staff who is curious about this. So this is a solo reaction log with just me...well, Heavy Lobster does appear to let me know who a certain guest is. We will have more... very gaming-related things for the rest of E3 Weeks 2021, however!
[11:59 AM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Alright, we're moments away from Verizon's presentation.
[11:59 AM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I'm hoping it's not just about mobile games or else I'm torturing myself.
[12:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I want better Internet connections and stuff. Who knows what'll happen!
[12:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "The battle to come will not be easy."
[12:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: There's some kind of rivalry strength thing.
[12:00 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: 5G Ultra Wideband...
[12:01 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...just sort of thrown into there.
[12:01 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Some guy named Diego who is the Chief Marketing Officer at Verizon.
[12:01 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Why am I here and why is Verizon here?"
[12:01 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ..Yeah I got that question too.
[12:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Talking about the PANDEMIC changing the industry. Creative outlet, means of connection, comfort. 5/6 people in the USA have played a videogame in the last 6 months.
[12:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: This guy has a slight accent that makes it difficult to comprehend him.
[12:02 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Technology that can change every aspect of gaming. What we need is a network, and that network is 5G Ultra Wideband."
[12:03 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Alright, this is better than mobile gaming.
[12:03 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "How Verizon is powering a gaming revolution." I'm fine with Verizon advertising services here.
[12:03 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Diego claims they benefit the developer community, as well as eSports teams.
[12:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And gaming-intense multiplayer games "can now be played on mobile" ehhh. And gamers will be able to stream games and I guess watching streams better.
[12:04 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "an epic year for gaming" Well Verizon is using the e-word so they fit right into E3.
[12:05 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: They played a meaningless montage and go back to Diego. Clearly they're having trouble with showing visuals here.
[12:05 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Team Liquid is coming... and did he say EA?
[12:06 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "TWO BROTHERS PLUMBING"
[12:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (They're doing another b-roll montage and I'm pretty sure "TWO BROTHERS PLUMBING" is a reference...)
[12:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: In their montage, a woman is just clipping through walls.
[12:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...and fell through the floor.
[12:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Yeah, that happens in videogames sometimes!
[12:08 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Don't live with lag." "5G built for gamers."
[12:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "I want to introduce Nicki Palmer, Verizon's Chief Product Development Officer."
[12:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Talking about "mobile edge compute" or "MEC".
[12:09 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Put the computers at the edge of the network where they're most needed, as opposed to hanging out in a far-away central location.
[12:09 PM] HeavyLobster: How do you do, fellow gamers?
[12:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Which means processing happens closer to the user, reducing latency.
[12:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And this reduces virtual reality lag.
[12:10 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I mean, everything they're saying is correct and is good.
[12:11 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (I dunno if 5G is actually that good but in theory.)
[12:11 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: They argue that hardware and network limitations are creative limitations on developers, and 5G can lift those.
[12:12 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: They're emphasising "mobile eSports" which sounds like a bad idea, even if the connection is perfect.
[12:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Note that 5G proliferation doesn't mean just developers get 5G, but all the customers have to get it too.
[12:13 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Showing "Emuhleet" of Dignitas's all-women Valorant team.
[12:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And "artStar" content creator for Dignitas, streaming on OBS for her fans, also formerly part of an all-women team.
[12:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (I bet it's on purpose they're focusing on women.)
[12:14 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (But theoretically, both genders should benefit!)
[12:16 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Third and biggest community that will be impacted by 5G. The fans and their experience."
[12:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Introduce someone who knows fan engagement... SHE is a streamer with Team Liquid, Aerial Powers.
[12:17 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Team Liquid Content Creator & DEI Ambassador"
[12:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...She hasn't said anything of value yet.
[12:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Basically saying Verizon is innovative and great. "Thank you." And cut away.
[12:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: wtf
[12:18 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: She didn't say anything new!
[12:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Let's look first at in-person events."
[12:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Over 60 stadiums and arenas in the USA with Verizon's 5G capabilities, with "360 degree views for a fully immersive experience."
[12:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ...Why would I want a 360 degree view? I want a view of the game screen. >_>
[12:19 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And with a little camera in the corner of the players.
[12:20 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Maybe I'm not visionary enough.
[12:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Apparently they built a Super Bowl stadium in Fortnite.
[12:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Allowing you to interact with the players somehow, and 5G made that a better experience.
[12:21 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "It also changes single-player and strategy games." Oh?
[12:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: He's inviting a guy ("you all know this guy, he plays for the LA Archers") to talk about Madden NFL Mobile.
[12:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Derwin James"
[12:22 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (I never heard of him.)
[12:22 PM] HeavyLobster: I know who Derwin James is.
[12:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Alright, guess I'm out of touch.
[12:23 PM] HeavyLobster: I wouldn't expect non-NFL fans to have heard of him.
[12:23 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Derwin keeps shaking his head as he's talking.
[12:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: He's talking about how the Madden NFL games are so much better now than before.
[12:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "You can be playing with friends much better than before." He's supposed to be talking about single-player and strategy games wtf.
[12:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "More opportunities to engage with people around the world and connect with friends mobile-y, too."
[12:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "We believe at Verizon that mobile is the future."
[12:24 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Noooooooo.
[12:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Console-quality experience on mobile"
[12:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I dunno use a Nintendo Switch.
[12:25 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Referencing Electronic Arts without actually having them on the stage because EA is boycotting E3.
[12:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Derwin does not know where the camera is.
[12:26 PM] HeavyLobster: Meh, he got his check, so he's good.
[12:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Diego mentioning a secret fourth area.
[12:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Supporting diversity"
[12:26 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
[12:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: I don't see how 5G impacts this.
[12:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Unless he wants to build out broadband in rural areas where it doesn't exist.
[12:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Those supporting female representation"
[12:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Uh...
[12:27 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Are women underrepresented in having Internet co-...
[12:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "We are taking action together with Riot Games."
[12:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: noooooooooooo
[12:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Okay now they're getting a Riot Games...person.
[12:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (She's not Chinese.)
[12:28 PM] HeavyLobster: Stronk independent women.
[12:28 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: WOT DOES THIS HAS TO DO WITH 5G
[12:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Anna Donlon executive producer - Valorant, Riot Games"
[12:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Women find themselves at a huge disadvantage and it's not skill-related.
[12:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: But they have to expend energy on harassment.
[12:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Uhhh so is Verizon giving preferential Internet access to women?
[12:29 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: For equity?
[12:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Because Joe Biden is pro-net neutrality and wants to not allow that to happen.
[12:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: If you kept net neutrality abolished—which KoopaTV (and Verizon) supported—you'd be able to do that!
[12:30 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Note that they haven't brought up what I'm saying right now.
[12:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Wotever they're mentioning has nothing to do with what Verizon can offer.
[12:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Just stuff about "commitments to allyship."
[12:31 PM] HeavyLobster: Maybe there's something to this net neutrality.
[12:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "protect women in competitive gaming"
[12:31 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "prioritise innovations that combat harassment"
[12:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So ARE they gonna prioritise networks for women?
[12:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Because Verizon was saying this whole time that 5G is an innovation.
[12:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So if you want to prioritise innovation...
[12:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Diego is announcing
[12:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "An expansion of our commitment to the Valorant game changers initiative."
[12:32 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "We are announcing a training initiative to mentor female gamers."
[12:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Help advance their careers."
[12:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So is this just a Valorant thing?
[12:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Provide a pipeline of female talent that is so sorely lacking."
[12:33 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: So Verizon's role to play is putting more money?
[12:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: And this has to do with 5G because when people pay for 5G, they funnel the money to helping women?
[12:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Nicki is back for ONE MORE THING.
[12:34 PM] HeavyLobster: The chat on the stream I'm watching is hilarious.
[12:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Still about female representation.
[12:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: VERIZON IS MAKING A ONE MILLION DOLLAR COMMITMENT
[12:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: TO INCREASE FEMALE REPRESENTATION IN GAMING AND STEM
[12:34 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: A SCHOLARSHIP called "Game Forward"
[12:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Partner with FIVE Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
[12:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: For women in STEM.
[12:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: She named the five HBCUs.
[12:35 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: "Here's the best part."
[12:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: They're giving internships to the scholarship recipients at Verizon.
[12:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: HAHAHAHA
[12:36 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Alright, I gotta admit, I didn't predict at the beginning this would turn into a diversity shill.
[12:37 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Diego concluding: Verizon is at E3 for technology with 5G. ...And secondly, Verizon wants to build diversity and inclusivity and welcoming of new faces.
[12:37 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Well.
[12:38 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: Now's the best time to be a transgender.
Ludwig has little patience for politically correct diversity/equity garbage hijacking presentations, especially when Verizon's basis for being at E3 2021 was so shaky to begin with. Let KoopaTV know in the comments section if you think KoopaTV is plagued with toxic masculinity or something and you think Verizon is doing a great thing. He still doesn't know how one can “get” 5G.
Here's what KoopaTV wrote about net neutrality back in 2017.

The truck says TWO BROTHERS PLUMBING. There was a close-up of it to start with but I missed it. You can still make it out though. |
[12:07 PM] Ludwig Von Koopa: (They're doing another b-roll montage and I'm pretty sure "TWO BROTHERS PLUMBING" is a reference...)

In terms of the technology discussion, don't sleep on what Verizon is doing. There's definitely beneficial implications to it. |

WONDERFUL! This is my favorite one out of all of them, how could anything else could top this?!
