Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splatfest Part 3: Raphael vs. Donatello!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - The loudest sigh, and the final round.

This Saturday, May 19th, will be the conclusion of this three-round Splatoon 2 Splatfest tournament based on everyone's favourite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

In Round 1, I supported Leonardo over Raphael. Raphael ended up winning.
In Round 2, I supported Donatello over Michelangelo. Donatello ended up winning.

Can you guess who I will support in Round 3? That's right. Donatello.

Marina will never root for Ralph Raph Raphael Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splatfest
Mainly for this reason.

I already explained why I dislike Raphael and like Donatello in the previous articles. Does that mean this article is over and done with? No. I'm going to tell you about why I've been sighing and detesting this entire Splatfest tournament series.

First of all, I've made my disdain known for sponsored Splatfests, especially sponsored by cartoons.

My favourite Splatfests are ones where we get to go into some philosophical discussion, or making hard choices about things that matter. That gets lost when you have some cartoon trying to increase their name recognition and brand awareness.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TMNT round 3 final Raph versus Donnie Raphael Donatello
Even all Pearl and Marina are doing is rehashing the same points from weeks ago,
which were already weak because in-universe, they have never heard of the TMNT.

It's true that I didn't know there was going to be a cartoon called Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles prior to this Splatfest. Nickelodeon has a success in that regard. Not all publicity is good publicity, however. I will never watch Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because I am not only utterly disgusted by the character designs, but I am annoyed how they took up THREE Splatfests with this. If there was any novelty, it wore off weeks ago.

There is something unique about a tournament Splatfest. It's never been done before. But now this unique format is associated with this uninteresting sponsored stupidity, and I never want a tournament-style Splatfest ever again. Having three Splatfests for three weeks in a row wears out its novelty. It's bad for everyone involved. What's next? A tournament featuring the Battletoads? (They're basically the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!)

Most of the sponsored Splatfests have been in Japan, because they have the highest active Splatoon 2 user base of any region. That means more eyes on the sponsored material, because why would an advertiser bother with a hundred thousand Europeans?

I don't like when immersion in games break because of non-canon money-nabbing. Sponsored Splatfests tend to do that. Splatoon is a franchise that cares about its lore and game world. It's sick when that's thrown away for a quick buck.

At least the terror of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles laying claim to KoopaTV's article real estate is finally ending. Express your happiness in the comments section below, and don't forget to support Team Donatello this Saturday!

This footer is wrong, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles return in a week from this article for World Turtle Day.
You might not believe this, but the Splatfest in the next month may actually be worse than this one, even though it's not sponsored.

  1. I feel tournament Splatfests can only be used for something sponsored. I can't think of any regular topic that has a four way fight that can be used for Splatfests. Maybe if they were related to other Nintendo franchises it could work. Maybe a Tournament Splatfest about the Breath of the Wild Champions will be more acceptable?

Oh I know: Orange Star vs. Blue Moon vs Yellow Comet vs. Green Earth. It can be used to bring awareness to Advance Wars.

    1. Tournament Splatfests are inherently bad for the game, so I'd rather them not have anymore.

You'll only end up with no new information/flavour in the final round. Pearl, Marina, and myself have all explained our thoughts about everyone in the first round. You're just getting Splatfest fatigue and diluting its specialness.

  2. Since our team won last round, I will stick with Donatello again for this one. I am glad that this round is the finale as I really could not care less what the outcome is. The next Splatfest could ask if you are left-handed or right-handed and I would find it more engaging.

    1. It'd be interesting how many people would lie about being left-handed.
