KoopaTV's June 2022 Review Newsletter

That June 2022 sure was a month, wasn't it? Normally we'd be coming out of June with great energy from the month's annual Electronic Entertainment Expo, but that wasn't a thing this year. And there was a lack of significant central events in its place (with the exception of the event that'll be mentioned in the top five recommended experiences section of this newsletter).

Ah, th-that's not to say that KoopaTV now is a low-energy publication publishing crap content. In fact, I have five pieces of evidence to the contrary:

Top Five Recommended Experiences of June 2022

Take a look (and click on them if the hyperlinks are blue instead of grey) at these great works published on KoopaTV in June, listed in chronological order:

1. SLEEP 2022: The Most Important Conference This Week! — The most important central event of June 2022 was the SLEEP 2022 conference, which Ludwig covered in this article, including reactions to several of the research abstracts presented.
2. Simultaneous Remove and Replace: The Case of the Dollar Discrepancy for Ace Attorney Trilogy Mobile — Ludwig investigated a curious discrepancy in the prices of the brand-new mobile re-ports of the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy. (This remains to this day.)
3. Star Wars: KOTOR2 Gamebreaking Bug Exposes Professional Game Reviewers as Frauds — If there's one article out there with definitive proof that professional reviewers and Metacritic is a fraudulent exercise, it's this.
4. I'd probably get Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes if it wasn't a "Warriors" game — Someone just can't get a committed interest in Musou games, even if it's been rather heavily Fire Emblem-ised. Has really fun screenshots.
5. Don't forget about those fake "insiders" and "leakers" for the June 2022 Nintendo Direct — It's not just game reviews that is fraudulent—media outlets in the gaming industry also recklessly publish FAKE NEWS but try to trick you into believing it's credible. (And then you keep trusting them after?)

I ought to mention, regarding STAR WARS: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords for the Switch, they released a hotfix yesterday (June 30) resolving the issue. Moving on to the next story...

Best Three Comments and One Worst Comment of June 2022

You can read the energy coming from KoopaTV's staff during June 2022. But was there energy coming back to us from the comments section? Let's check out the highlights (and the lowlight):

1. “This might actually help, one of my cards got messed up when I was scratching it, I've been looking for pictures of already used cards so I can compare and figure out what numbers are supposed to be on mine, a few of them look almost identical to multiple letters so seeing what they're supposed to look like helps, appreciate it” — Anonymous

   This is a very fascinating article, especially nice use of the word slavishly. I tend to agree with most people that getting adequate sleep is important and something to strive for, however, like most people I think I tend to do a lot more talking that way than actually invoking it in my own life. I think I'm getting adequate sleep at the moment, but my schedule is sheer bedlam. I go to bed and wake up at different times every night and that can't be good. I suppose i could learn something from this so thanks for reporting on it. ” — Captain Stitch
3. “I was very excited to see Nabbit and Toady. I do like the representation they give to some more obscure enemies. Its just a shame most of it is through weird means.
   Purple Toad was very much dissapointing. And even worse, if you checked the alternate images, they are packaging them in boxes now instead of baggies. So feeling for a specific character is out the window. In previous packs, there were very few enemies I was interested in. Id much rather get a Bully, Coin Coffer, or Mecha Koopa compared to the amazing selection of SM3DW Bee, SM64 Baby Penguin, and Freezie. Its certainly not the greatest character choices. It wouldnt be that upsetting if they werent intentionally random. But they obviously pad out the space with junk characters to sell more.
   
   Like I said in my original post, I just hope the license lives on and slowly shifts to more mature audiences. It feels very kindergarden right now, and I would love to see it go towards teen or adult audiences. Especially since they are running out of content pretty fast. They have exhausted most classic Mario scenarios. Introducing Luigi and going straight into the Luigis Mansion IP. Either the license agreement will stagnate with a lack of ideas due to some corporate factor keeping them in a fixed age bracket, or it will proliferate into an mainstay for Lego.” — Anonymous

Normally, comments that are made on that Nintendo eShop card article are deemed the worst. However, this comment is actually expressing thanks for one of the valid purposes of looking up scratched-off Nintendo eShop cards. (As opposed to begging for a free code and then not leaving contact info behind. ...But if you want a free code, look to the next section and you can see someone receive one of those.) They just want to compare. That's fine. Sometimes when I need to pretend I'm an American citizen, I have to look up the format of a Social Security Number because I can't always remember what it is. (Three numbers, then two numbers, then four numbers.) So if KoopaTV can help with that, that's great! Erm... for the eShop codes.

I like Captain Stitch's bedlam pun. And I feel like signal-boosting pro-sleep messages will get me to sleep better myself.

I don't think I would've known that there was a LEGO Super Mario announcement if this guy didn't comment such to me. (And he's... clearly genuinely into it, as opposed to me, who only follows this stuff to write negatively about it.) I still haven't actually written about the announcement yet. I really need to in July 2022!

I don't think it's that funny to laugh about an article on... natural disasters and how Nintendo responds to them. Okay, no, that's not my problem, since KoopaTV is a truth & levity site, and I did make funny remarks in the article that are quite worthy of being laughed with. It was a good article. And there is hypocrisy to this day—Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is still in a limbo state due to a man-made disaster raising sensitivities around war games, while the likes of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes gets to release despite also being themed around war games. I mean, Warriors is all about ruthlessly slaying hundreds of people at a time and seizing territories. Ain't that hypocritical?

Anyway, just leaving “lmao” ain't a good comment. I'd like to at least know which punchline was good.

KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program Round 44 RESULTS!

Well? Who won KoopaTV's free Nintendo eShop card code for this KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program round? Here are the KoopaTV participants who had a double-digit point total (no one had a triple-digit number):

Corrections Corner; June 2022

Captain Stitch caught a one-sided parenthesis in the footer of the 2022 Essential Facts article. It's been removed. I initially anticipated that the Ace Attorney plug should be parenthetical, but I later decided that it should be mandatory reading and not skippable. Unfortunately, I only half-erased this initial draft and left the other parenthesis around. Apologies for the error.

But that was the only thing we got wrong in the month (at least, that someone pointed out)! That's way better than many other media outlets, including the ones that were name-dropped in those pair of media-criticism articles you can see in the Top Five section of the newsletter.
