By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - You're both looking fantastic in your respective roles.
I wish to continue the themes that I started mere weeks ago about Non-Playable Characters (NPCs). I think that the NPC meme is no longer something that is dominating any narrative or conversation, so KoopaTV's article going after this NPC bashing must have been rhetorically effective. Furthermore, it was proven correct a week ago in two different ways, which I'll write about in this article.
Piranha Plant was announced to be an additional playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Koopa Paratroopa (henceforth mostly referred to as Paratroopa) became a playable character in Mario Tennis Aces. Here are my generous, love-filled thoughts on both of them:
First of all, props to Piranha Plant for getting here. Piranha Plant has managed to not appear as a playable character in any previous game. That's quite an achievement to go from a mindless obstacle to playable character! Sure, it took over three decades, but Piranha Plant has been putting in that hard work and diligent attendance to finally make it.
Piranha Plant is representing his kind well, including the poison-spitting Putrid Piranha from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario. Piranha Plant has been training for those decades, accumulating the knowledge of his fellow Piranha brothers and sisters, and it will finally pay off. I almost couldn't be more proud.
And he isn't just out to eliminate Mario, but also Luigi and several Yoshi!
(I assumed Piranha Plant's gender.)
I described Piranha Plant as someone I almost could not be more proud of. My biggest amount of pride for this article goes towards Paratroopa. In that NPC article, I already celebrated Paratroopa's previous tennis prowess, and I already wrote a whole article about how Koopas are awesome at athletics. Paratroopa features prominently in that.
Paratroopa is quickly making his mark in the tennis world once more after he was left out of the game's initial release. Together, he and Koopa Troopa are defying physics:
Paratroopa also represents other Koopas well, much like Piranha Plant. His sideways Trick Shot is called the Koopa Boost. Much like how Koopa Troopa has an amazing and super-fast-to-charge Drop Shot, Paratroopa's shot of choice is a quick-charging Lob Shot, enabling the tennis ball to fly over opponents’ heads, much like Paratroopa with his own wings.
Lesson: When you invest in yourself and try to become something unique and you beat society's expectations, you can rise up from a mere enemy NPC, and become a champion fighter or athlete. No one thought that Piranha Plant could do it. “A ‘generic enemy’ as a playable character?” they scoffed.
Yes. It's happening. And not only playable, but defeating the competition.
Piranha Plant and Koopa Paratroopa (and Koopa Troopa) are models for every member of King Bowser's army. Aspire to be like them.
Once every Koopa Kingdom citizen becomes as brilliant-minded as Paratroopa or Piranha Plant, the kingdom will become unstoppable. Will KoopaTV's readers be brilliant as well, or will you be surpassed by the positively-mentioned folks in this and previous articles? Go prove your worth by leaving a comment, and try to win in Round 23 of the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program! By the way, this is KoopaTV's 1500th published article.
Chain Chomp should be kept chained up, however.
Mario completely deserves to be Smashed by Piranha Plant after what he did to Petey.
Piranha Plant was released on January 29! Here he is once again going after that plumber!

And he's pulverising that angry-looking plumber! Good work! |

Not only that, but Piranha Plant also attacks enemies from other worlds, such as KoopaTV foe Chrom! Man, what a way to get in my favour! |

WELL DONE; KOOPA PARATROOPA! An amazing Koopa Boost from Koopa Paratroopa! (And beating Princess Peach as well.) |

It took over thirty years for these characters to rise above NPC status and achieve what was once thought to be impossible. Players have always considered paratroopas to be a simple common enemy that the genocidal maniac slaughters and piranha plants an easy obstacle to avoid and nothing more. Now these once non-playable characters will have the last laugh as they finally get into the spotlight and receive the recognition that they deserve.
ReplyDeleteWhile we've yet to truly determine how competent Piranha Plant is, the “simple common enemies” of the world will now have to be taken very seriously.
