Cure the Virtual Console of YIDS

KoopaTV has to worry about getting Ebola whenever we visit our office, and now Wii U users will have to worry about getting YIDS.

This virus-like videogame, scientifically known as Yoshi's Island DS, has already infected other games such as Yoshi's New Island and Mario Super Sluggers. And now it threatens the entire Wii U Virtual Console library since it is the flagship title for the Virtual Console's DS game service, with Super Mario 64 representing the Nintendo 64 one.

YIDS is not worth $10.

It's not only the flagship title, but it's the only title, though that will change in a few hours on April 9 with Yoshi Touch & Go and WarioWare Touched!. That means if you want to see the DS Virtual Console for yourself before then, you'll have to get YIDS.

Meanwhile, let's take a brief look at Yoshi's Woolly World. Bill Trinen introduced Yoshi's Woolly World in the April 1 Direct as "a creative and lovingly-crafted entry in the Yoshi entry" that makes familiar gameplay mechanics "feel new again". Trinen is actually describing the game as lovingly-crafted, which is in stark contrast with the Artoon/Arzest-developed Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island. Note that Bill Trinen states that Yoshi's Woolly World actually feels new, as opposed to Yoshi's New Island which shoves the word "new" down your throat as soon as you read the title. Yoshi's New Island's "new" philosophy is "tell, not show", since the only new thing about it was the awful kazoo. (Warning: I'm not joking. It's awful, so don't listen.)

By the way, at the end of April 1 we concluded that KoopaTV staffer Kamek might be deceased. We are happy to confirm he is alive, but you might not see him for a while.

Nintendo's Wii U Virtual Console for DS games has all sorts of awful screen layouts to choose from.

Doesn't seem very positive. Unfortunately for that guy and anyone else who contracts YIDS, the game does not get any better. Hopefully the DS Virtual Console will. It needs a vaccine, stat!
