Character Battle IX Favouritism Bracket

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - A happy world where Draven doesn't win.

If you want to see who I'd vote for in Round 1, click here. Unfortunately, reality didn't reflect who I'd like to win for the entire tournament at GameFAQs. So starting below are my Round 2 favouritism picks and then the rest of the tournament too, (Round 1 is in what I just linked — although I changed Ryu H. to Kefka!) I may provide comments if needed!

So, why is this important? Because characters are one of the best things about videogames, the way you personally involve yourself in and interact with characters is something unique to the medium. In fact, characters can sometimes be even more important than gameplay!

Round 2

Division 1

(1) Link
(13) Waluigi
(9) Yoshi

Link Always Wins!

(17) Captain Olimar
(5) Tharja
(8) Hero

I like Hero's design.

(25) Jak
(15) Ryu
(21) Jigglypuff

Division 2

(27) Dan Hibiki
(6) Lucina
(9) Professor Layton

This may change after I get Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney.

(2) Phoenix Wright
(5) KOS-MOS
(11) Mewtwo

(3) Chrom
(15) Sub-Zero
(7) Bowser

Division 3

(27) Little Mac
(13) Miles Edgeworth
(19) Reyn

Poor Mac.

(2) Luigi
(5) Big Boss
(8) CATS

(16) Poison
(4) Kirby
(7) Wheatley

Division 4

(1) Solid Snake
(13) Captain Falcon
(10) N

(2) GlaDOS
(5) Ike
(8) Epona

(3) Shulk
(24) Slime
(7) Kefka

Division 5

(27) Prinny
(22) Viewtiful Joe
(19) Lugia

I don't actually like Lugia, besides Herman Cain referencing his movie.

(26) Raz
(5) Squirtle
(20) Ridley

(25) Kat
(4) Leon Kennedy
(12) Hades

Division 6

(27) Missile
(6) Pikachu
(10) Hal "Otacon" Emmerich

I refuse to acknowledge that Missile is from Ghost Trick and will instead delude myself into believing that it's the Missile from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

(17) Scorpion
(14) Gilgamesh
(8) Groose

(25) Mr. Game & Watch
(15) Steve
(12) Pokémon Trainer Blue

Division 7

(27) Sandbag
(22) Catherine
(10) Seifer Almasy

(17) Miles "Tails" Prower
(14) Revolver Ocelot
(20) Palutena

(16) Tom Nook
(24) Claire Redfield
(21) Chun-Li

Division 8

(27) Fawful
(6) Vivi
(9) Ganondorf

I got major respect for Vivi after what he did in the actual tournament.

(17) Rayman
(5) Amaterasu
(8) Missingno

(16) Wario
(4) Pokémon Trainer Red
(7) Pit

Division 9

(1) Mega Man
(13) Travis Touchdown
(19) Jill Valentine

If he wasn't against Travis Touchdown, Mega Man would go very, very far.

(2) Zero
(23) Weighted Companion Cube
(11) Lyndis

(16) Zelda
(24) Falco Lombardi
(7) Charizard

If it was just Wind Waker Zelda, she'd win.

Round 3

Division 1

(1) Link
(8) Hero

(21) Jigglypuff

Division 2

(6) Lucina
(2) Phoenix Wright
(7) Bowser

I think Bowser is my third-favourite character in the bracket, so this is unfortunate placing.

Division 3

(13) Miles Edgeworth
(8) CATS
(4) Kirby

Division 4

(13) Captain Falcon
(5) Ike
(24) Slime

Division 5

(27) Prinny
(5) Squirtle
(12) Hades

Remember when I said Kid Icarus: Uprising is amazing? I still mean that.

Division 6

(27) Missile
(8) Groose
(12) Pokémon Trainer Blue

Division 7

(27) Sandbag
(20) Palutena
(24) Claire Redfield

Division 8

(6) Vivi
(17) Rayman
(7) Pit

Division 9

(13) Travis Touchdown
(2) Zero
(24) Falco Lombardi

Round 4

(21) Jigglypuff
(2) Phoenix Wright
(4) Kirby

Ugh, this entire top third of the bracket! I love ALL of them. Why make me choose?

(5) Ike
(12) Hades
(27) Missile

Unfortunately, Missile may be cute, but... he's just an item. In Ace Attorney anyway.

(20) Palutena
(7) Pit
(13) Travis Touchdown

Round 5

(2) Phoenix Wright
(12) Hades
(13) Travis Touchdown

Yeah I pretty much had this result pre-determined! Not Hades, though. That's because the middle third of the bracket is really weak.

So in my world, Travis Touchdown is the best videogame character ever. I mean, I DID write I wanted him in Super Smash Bros. 4. This isn't new news!
If I were to list my Top 10 favourites (from the contest), it might look like...
  1. Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes)
  2. Phoenix Wright (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
  3. Bowser (Mario)
  4. Kirby (Kirby)
  5. Jigglypuff (Pokémon)
  6. Miles Edgeworth (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
  7. Palutena (Kid Icarus: Uprising)
  8. Pit (Kid Icarus: Uprising)
  9. Hades (Kid Icarus: Uprising)
  10. Mega Man (Mega Man)
So good job Nintendo, Capcom, and Grasshopper Manufacture!

This won't be the last article Ludwig is going to write involving GameFAQs's Character Battle IX. There's one more that has to be written... Look forward to it. It won't be bracket-related!

The article implied above never got written, but skip two years ahead and we have another GameFAQs favouritism bracket! For BEST GAME EVER!
Travis Touchdown has returned to a new game!

  1. Are you a big Layton Fan now that you've played the crossover? Were you shocked and ecstatic at the New World of Steam teaser? You should play the Layton games regardless, they are phenomenal if you really like puzzles. I'm surprised that you picked hades over Squirtle, I thought you liked all the turtle Pokémon. Although, I guess it is part squirrel and I certainly don't care for those.

    1. The crossover made me never want to play a Layton game again.

As for Hades and Squirtle, this took place in 2013 when I was on a Kid Icarus Uprising honeymoon. I wouldn't made that choice today.
Maybe I should, though. Hades didn't stop being awesome.

    2. It's been years since the crossover, time to give Layton another chance. Turn a new Layton leaf in his New World of Steam! Kinda sucks that Kid Icarus went right back to being a dead IP after that game, but who knows. It shouldn't be too unlikely if they revive and reboot it again, 10 years from now.

    3. Well, they're due to revive Kid Icarus in 25 years after Kid Icarus Uprising, so... only 14 years more to go!

      Screw Layton!
