By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - I've surprisingly been very good about writing that it's 2020.
Look at me, crowing about 2020. It's already February...3rd! (2020.) Well, it can't be a newsletter reviewing January 2020 without January 2020 actually passing by first. KoopaTV waits for things to end and then reminisces. That's why we have our Game of THAT Year Awards in January, as opposed to some other places, which pretend the year ends in November so they can reminisce in December. Nuh uh. No way. At KoopaTV, we do it correctly. That's our guarantee to you.
You can see that work ethic exhibited in our articles and content from January 2020. Just have a gander throughout this newsletter:
KoopaTV is all about the premium (at the cost of nothing to you—no money, no personal data handed over... just your time) content, so here's five of the recommended experiences from January 2020, in chronological order. ...If something isn't here, it's still worth it.
Ludwig has written a lot about himself so far in this newsletter. That's great, yes, because he's absolutely brilliant. But he admits that it's hard to sustain an interesting site and newsletter if it's all about him, so he regrettably will make this about YOU, and YOUR participation on KoopaTV, in the form of the three best comments and one worst comment. These are also in chronological order:
As for Mr. B., he did the extremely important task of writing a comment reminding me to bring my plushie, since six months before the appointment that was the subject of the above section's recommended experiences, I wrote an article about how NOT having a plushie during an appointment made me feel scared and upset and anxious, and I asked you all to remind me to do something different. I was all set for no one to remind me. He did. Of course that gets a best comment.
As for ArdanianRight, the only thing he could do better is to put the accent in Pokémon. Otherwise, he used the power of MATHEMATICS—a discipline that I'm a fan of—to drive a great point.
Unlike this guy, who made the worst comment of January 2020:
You see, what Hadi ansary was talking about is the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program. You know what I wrote earlier in this newsletter about how KoopaTV is free? Actually, it's of negative cost to you, since I give you stuff (in the case of Round 30, a $10 Nintendo eShop gift card code) for participating. You just have to participate more than anyone else, since this is a gaming site, and so it's a game. You can check out that link for more details, including the many ways to get points, but here's the standings as of publishing. (Round 30 ends February 28.)
You all didn't point out anything that needed to be corrected on-site, so it's another successful month. ...Quite frankly, and I hate to admit this, there was definitely subject material for correction. I went almost a whole day without putting a sub-title on an article (“[Your sub-title here.]” is filler, not an actual sub-title) and no one said anything. Would've been easy acknowledgement (and points) in this newsletter, but no. Where you at, Hadi ansary?! You gotta WORK for that Switch rent!
If you are willing to put in work, though, perhaps you could consider directly joining KoopaTV's staff? You still won't be able to pay your rent (the reason we're headquartered in Sierra Leone is because we can barely afford to pay our own), but you'll feel pretty good on a personal level. You'd be part of an amazing, socially responsible organisation with a great cause.

KoopaTV's Top Five Recommended Experiences of January 2020
KoopaTV is all about the premium (at the cost of nothing to you—no money, no personal data handed over... just your time) content, so here's five of the recommended experiences from January 2020, in chronological order. ...If something isn't here, it's still worth it.
- Pokémon Sword/Shield Expansion Pass: GAME FREAK's Scumbaggery — Ludwig believes that the Expansion Pass for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield combines every anti-consumer practice out there for this kind of content. Read his persuasive argument!
- Impressions on the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX Announcement and Demo — But on a much more positive Pokémon note, he endorses the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX demo, and suggests you try it out.
- Learn in 7 Seconds Why Byleth Isn't An Interesting Choice in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — Ludwig, on behalf of all of the Koopalings (and Bowser Jr.) explains why Byleth isn't interesting and is inherently contradictory. It's an issue that's very personal to him.
- I Brought A Drednaw Plushie To My Dentist Appointment — Writing of what's personal to him, Ludwig tells the story of his dentist appointment in January, and what reactions he received to bringing a Drednaw plushie there. (Photo included.)
- Ring Fit Adventure Fitness Log Week 11: Three Sucky Friends at the Valley of Wishes — Ludwig finds the storyline of the 11th world in Ring Fit Adventure to be fairly engaging, so he wants to share that with you in his fitness log series.
Best Three Comments and One Worst Comment of January 2020
Ludwig has written a lot about himself so far in this newsletter. That's great, yes, because he's absolutely brilliant. But he admits that it's hard to sustain an interesting site and newsletter if it's all about him, so he regrettably will make this about YOU, and YOUR participation on KoopaTV, in the form of the three best comments and one worst comment. These are also in chronological order:
- “*clears throat*
1. I didn't find this to be an issue. Despite everything having the same sort of color scheme, characters are distinct enough from the backgrounds and there's enough variation in backgrounds that it didn't bother me.
2. This is a little frustrating, since you need to manage your time (actions) carefully, and I don't think you can see every piece of dialogue in a single playthrough. It's not quite as restrictive as I expected, through.
There are multiple endings, so you could play it multiple times to see different dialogue and options based on your choices/outcomes, although you don't need to redo an entire playthrough to get a different ending. There is a distinct point where the game branches.
3. It is indeed quite short. It took me about 5 and a half hours to play it and get all 3 endings. If you redid the game from the start each time to see all the dialogue/outcomes/changes, you'd probably get a few more hours out of it.
4. While the Switch version will be complete, I don't know if its save/load bugs will persist or not. There was also supposed to be a bonus chapter that was never made. The Kickstarter update announcing the Switch version suggests that possibly they could actually make the bonus chapter now, but there's no guarantee of that.
5. Objection! The events of Aviary Attorney take place long before Benjamin Hunter operated in France.” — Samantha Lienhard - “Remember to bring a plushie to your dentist appointment tomorrow.” — Kody B.
- “Yeah, the cost of being a Pokemon fan is getting pricier and pricier, and the games aren't really getting better. Even ditching the 3rd version model in favor of an Expansion Pass doesn't offset the increased price of a Switch game vs 3DS games(60+30 is more than 40+40). And when there's so many better games and JRPGs in particular available on Switch, why bother paying top dollar for a mediocre experience that only really has nostalgia over its competitors?” — ArdanianRight

So, that's a bit of a lead there, didn't expect that. But what I meant before by simply replying "yes" to if this one's a lost cause, well, my attitude this time is that I got a prize last time so someone else can take it if they really want to. I'm gonna wait till the next round to actually TRY.
ReplyDeleteEveryone got a prize last time.
Delete*shrug*
Well, I got 2 prizes which added up to a fairly proper game so it still stands that I'm content for now. *return shrug*
DeleteGREED IS GOOD.
DeleteI disagree, but even if I didn't, the prize this time is minor compared to many times so to me I'm not bothered to actually try. :P (Yet I at least appear to be kicking butt anyway :P :P :P)
DeleteI don't like the implication that you're complacent with $10.
DeleteThat's how people/bugs get addicted to/resistant to bigger and bigger doses of drugs.
You know this site doesn't have any way of getting revenue...!
The $10 isn't even the biggest thing. There's a huge difference to me between $10 Nintendo eshop and $10 Amazon GC.
Delete$10 eShop gets you a substantial way towards buying eShop-only Ace Attorney, while an Amazon card can't be redeemed for eShop credit in any way.
DeletePretty clear which has a better life impact!
Um...you can use Amazon gift credit to buy eshop cards of equal value, as well as other things. Saying an Amazon card can't be redeemed for eshop credit in any way is totally inaccurate.
DeleteWe've discussed this before on KoopaTV!
