By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - I didn't take advantage of previous years. How about 2018?
Hot tip: Right now, you can go, without logging into anything, to birthday.nintendo.com and download this delicious Kirby wallpaper in four different sizes, including a mobile-looking vertical one.
As you should know, December is my birth month. Nintendo wants to make people feel like they care about your life, so when you register for a My Nintendo account, they take information like your birthday (which they ask for to see if you're an underaged child) and then sometimes use that information to personalise communications to you. That said, how personalised was this e-mail they sent to me?
Given what I took as a threat, I had no intention of clicking over to Nintendo's site. Until I kept scrolling through the e-mail and saw this brilliant e-mail marketing tactic:
The presents end up being really lame arts & crafts projects that you can print and cut out, as well as a 30% discount on these games that lasts until the end of the month:
In 2016, I wrote about Nintendo's Just For You birthday offer. It was also 30% for select Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games, but at least the games here are mostly different than the games there. I didn't use the offer back then (though I wish I took advantage of at least one of the sales of Kirby Triple Deluxe over the last couple of years... it's a regret of mine). Will I use it now?
If you're looking for advice for yourself, Yoshi's Woolly World is awesome and a very worthy successor to Yoshi's Island, and Paper Mario: Color Splash is underrated to the point where I took it upon myself to write a full review of it two years ago.
As for games that stand out that I don't have, there is Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia and Monster Hunter Stories. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia suffers from me associating it with the Fire Emblem fanbase a decade ago saying the game it's a remake of, Fire Emblem Gaiden, is bad.
(Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia also suffers from me spelling it “Valencia” across several articles on this website, but no one wanted to take advantage of very easy Corrections Corner points to get them ahead in the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program, so it stuck. By the way, the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program is over nine-thousand times better than My Nintendo as a rewards program.)
As for my story with Monster Hunter Stories, I haven't written about it on KoopaTV, but I enjoyed the rather extensive demo on the 3DS. Is it worth continuing my experience with it with a full purchase? I don't know. Do you know?
I'm more than happy to not take any of these offers (besides the free Kirby wallpaper, which I'm looking at on my second monitor right now with a smile). Remember, you're not saving money on discounted merchandise if you were never planning to buy anything in the first place. But I figured I might as well ask the audience tonight.
This article is obviously filler, but Ludwig used his actual whole birthday evening writing a thorough review of Kirby Star Allies. Let him have a break. If you do want to recommend any of those games, let him know. You could try to recommend that Ludwig spends his money directly for your benefit, but good luck with that. If you want free stuff from Ludwig, go participate in the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program.
Ludwig is still using that Kirby wallpaper as of well into 2019.
Ludwig finally changed wallpapers on July 27, 2021.

(There are also wallpapers for Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but this is the only one made especially for birthdays.) |

As a Koopaling, I sure don't want a few “gifts” from Mario. Especially when Cappy is on his head, ready to capture me. |

I obviously don't have access to Nintendo's marketing analytics, but I'm pretty sure the click rate on the presents section is super high. |

I remember getting a birthday offer and not being interested in any of the discounts either. Either I already had them or just do not care about the games.
ReplyDeleteI'll take that as a "yeah you should skip these."
DeleteHere's my question. Why is Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest there? Not Birthright?
