Today is super-busy. There's the finals of the GameFAQs Best Game Ever tournament, where Undertale is dominating and it shouldn't. There are two Republican debates tonight, one going on right now as of publishing. (The one you care less about.)
Yet the most important (arguably?) of the events today? Masahiro Sakurai giving his final presentation ever on Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and Super Smash Bros. For 3DS. And let's not kid ourselves, it's mostly the first one.

I haven't gotten a Fire Emblem game since 8. The FE bias is really showing. If Sakurai is behind SSB5 I do not think I will get that game.

Splatoon merch is actually getting made. How many Nintendo games that are not the usual suspects of Plumber Boy, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Donkey Kong if you consider that separate from Plumber Boy and Kirby and probably some other Nintendo game I am currently forgetting gets plushies, even of NPCs, along with many other memorabilia? I also have two out of either 5 or 6 Nintendo World Store Splatoon shirts and there are plushies based on other Splatoon characters as well as other merch that aren't plushies or shirts like keychains out. I also have the Splatoon artbook. How many Nintendo games will give you a whole book of concept art of Splatoon? I hope my complaining of yet another FE character does not make you think I am as paranoid as certain posters on that thread.
FE9 and FE10 are truly amazing and deserve all the references they get on this site. I should probably do more, since the Something Awful Fire Emblem thread visits KoopaTV every now-and-then to see if there's anything new with FE and KoopaTV. Wish they visited other articles.

I don't really see the connection that Smash, which will have its post-release support end BEFORE Splatoon's ends, is CRITICAL in being a signal that Splatoon will become a franchise and not a one-off. How does that logic make sense?
At least the Mii costumes for the Inklings gave you Splatoon trophies. That's a lot more than what buying other costumes will get you.
Isn't FE9 a Gamecube game? Either they need to remaster it like Wind Waker to get it on the eshop or Gamecube games will be made compatible for the Virtual Console. I would like to give Luigi's Mansion and Plumber Boy Sunshine a go even though I have a Wii somewhere and can hook it up to play Gamecube games. I already got my Wii U, PS3 and PS2 all hooked up. Could my Wii also fit without me having to pull wires every time? Or could be laziness. I also have an unfinished Pikmin 2 game (Gamecube version) that I really want to finish at some point. I never had the Gamecube when it first came out. I got Pikmin 1 with Wii Controls so I got used to that. It took forvever for Pikmin 2 with Wii controls to come out in NA and I gave up in ever getting it so I got the Gamecube version and it may have been hard for me to adjust to the controls. I also paid a bit over $40 for it. And then the Wii controls version came out shortly afterwards, grrrr... I never bought that version. Not sure if I should try to get back to the Gamecube version or wait for the Virtual Console version of Pikmin 2 with Wii controls.

I finally unwatched that topic. It was tiring seeing the same arguments and defenses over and over again. I already moved on and accepted the final DLC characters. I still can't believe they think Splatoon is being abandoned. As someone rightfully pointed out Pikmin debuted in a previous gen and Olimar became a playable character in the gen later (Brawl). The same will most likely be done for Splatoon characters.

DeleteAwakening is much more casualised and basic because its philosophy was "you can complete any chapter in 15 minutes because that's the portable way". Meanwhile, the other games had these epic battles.
Awakening noticeably has a lot of "tell" instead of "show" and is very weak on story. There are many instances where characters are chatting and it suddenly jumps to the new map without any semblance of why there's a fight and who you're fighting and what the point is.
Meanwhile, story was why you'd play the games before.
Awakening also has the avatar unit (who you'd know as Robin) and the game heavily encourages you to get married, hence "Waifu Emblem". The story also centralises around Robin to the detriment of characterisation of other people. And of course you're an amnesiac who becomes friends with everyone.

It is visually unique, but it's not functionally unique. There literally is no difference, in terms of function, if Corrin just held a long spear the entire time. His dragon-limbs work the same way as any other disjointed hitbox.
Fire Emblem: Awakening came out in 2012, and Robin and Lucina were announced for Super Smash Bros. 4 in 2014. By 2014, Fire Emblem Awakening had already sold well. Nothing to do with Super Smash Bros.. Besides, Ike being in Super Smash Bros. Brawl apparently didn't help sell Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn, though I wish it did.
It still makes no sense that Fire Emblem specifically gets a new character because there continue to be more games released in that series. Why does Yoshi only have himself from his series despite Yoshi's Woolly World being a new title released after? Why not have a chibi Galactic Federation soldier for Metroid Prime: Federation Force? Hey, the Donkey Kong Country series nearly died after Donkey Kong Country 3 and then came back with AMAZING, high-selling games with Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Doesn't that series deserve more?
Captain Falcon is one of the most popular characters in Super Smash Bros., though that's entirely due to how he's represented in that series and not from his own game.
Being in Super Smash Bros. alone doesn't make your series a best-seller. Again, look at F-Zero or Metroid or Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. It sure can help, and I've made that argument before, but it's impossible to point to Corrin and say, “He's the reason that Fates sold XXX more copies!”
Don't tell me that Lucina doesn't deserve to even be counted as her own character. She's one of six Fire Emblem characters, and that's a fact. She's on the character select screen. Plus, she would represent Awakening too if it was just her without Robin. Plumber-in-a-doctor-outfit and Mewtwo count enough as Melee Guy and that's no excuse that Roy needed to come back, either.
WOW that is arrogant. Corrin is much more unique than your average FE character. He has a projectile with a hitbox after, range in both side special and side smash. He's overall a different feeling of a character.

But that's when you're wrong once more. Captain Falcon still happens to be remembered because of his INCLUSION IN SMASH. Even if his series is dead. That didn't sell well because no one was interested in your overall racing game that never got a new one. Fates got packed with new content and some old faces as DLC. Along with lowering the difficulty a lot as an option to please more crowds and I find it successful. F-Zero and Earthbound just didn't get the chance to redeem themselves. The spot of redemption shouldn't go to an already popular series. That's unfair.
I'm saying she shouldn't but whatever, it's not like they are all clones. Marth is the start of the trend, Ike is a heavy hitter swordfighter, Robin is a mix between magic and swordplay with a limit, Corrin can turn into a dragon for his whole moveset nuff said, Roy is a reverse Marth which I consider unique enough, Lucina is the only direct clone. 2/6 are clones if not 1/6. Dr. Mario was an alt with luck to get a slot. He doesn't represent Melee. Mewtwo was just the overall favorite cut fighter in general. It makes sense why he doesn't have Melee guy title slapped on him. He's known outside of Melee, something Roy unfortunately doesn't have. He's only known due to his inclusion in Melee thus the Melee Guy title slapped on him.

The Donkey Kong series got the worst representation proportional to its iconic-ness and worthiness out of any series in Super Smash Bros. 4. The majority of its music are all remixes of one theme. It got one stage per system, with one of those being from a previous game. It didn't get new characters despite getting highly successful games. And, hey, the DK Rap got truncated. That can't help.
You're working under the false assumption that whoever was in Corrin's spot HAD to be in a game that would be released right around the time the DLC would be. It certainly didn't have to be that case. That was Sakurai's thinking, but he could've thought differently.
So some people's series are dead, yet you say only Fire Emblem gets a character because it already "redeemed" itself? Instead of using the power of Super Smash Bros. to be the force that redeems? You say it shouldn't go to an already popular series, but Fire Emblem, with one game (Awakening) has jettisoned itself to "already popular series" status.
After all, even Masahiro Sakurai wonders what happened to Captain Falcon. A new F-Zero could easily have new content and do a lot of new things.
