SEGA Does What Tecmo Kan't?

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Not my best pun ever, but just compare the trailers.

I know to never trust a trailer, but let's just look at production values and hype-building value. The trailer for Tecmo Koei's Hyrule Warriors (still a tentative title) was discussed in a fair amount of detail here. It resulted in me dismissing the whole game as crappy-looking. Compare to this Sonic Lost World trailer featuring The Legend of Zelda Zone DLC. Free DLC at that. You know, the one we knew was coming for months.

Let's start with basic observations. First, Link himself appears in both trailers.

...So this isn't canon, right?

Second, the Sonic Lost World trailer puts a lot more The Legend of Zelda references in it than the Hyrule Warriors one. As a result, it actually feels more... authentically Zelda. So it should be accepted a lot more. You got your Cuccos, and you have an actual diversity of enemies instead of armies of Bokoblins.

Sonic opens a treasure chest in his trailer at the beginning, and Link opens a treasure chest in his trailer at the end. The quality in the production of the title/transition cards that show up immediately after is pretty stark in difference. It speaks for itself.

You don't see it, but Sonic is physically attacking those Cucco at the end while the title card is up.

I've never liked Sonic anyway, so I hope he gets what is coming to him.

At the :26 mark you see a cel-shaded explosion. Good to see that's getting representation too. What is really interesting is what route SEGA DIDN'T take. Although I guess the Yoshi's Island DLC didn't feature Sonic throwing eggs or licking things either. That'd be weird. You know, more weird than Sonic wearing someone else's clothes.

We haven't talked about Sonic the Fighters here on KoopaTV. For good reason.

The DLC comes out tomorrow, or today by the time you likely read this. That's March 27.

And no Sonic and the Black Knight reference here either!

Ludwig is not a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog by any measure, but he knows a good trailer when he sees one. Check out his NNID at PrinceOfKoopas.
