Nintendo eShop Blockbuster Sale (includes Ace Attorney)

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Don't complain you have nothing to play.

While I didn't care that much about the Nintendo Direct from earlier in this week, I don't mind that at all. That's because there's still an incredibly healthy backlog of games that are already out on Nintendo systems that I haven't gotten through playing—and you likely haven't, either. While there is enough money in life to buy all of those, there just is not enough time in life to actually play all of those through.

Right now, for whatever reason, there are over 2,200 games on sale on the Nintendo Switch, and several dozen on sale on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Those 3DS titles include fan-favourites like CAPCOM's Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney–Dual Destinies, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney–Spirit of Justice, all for $5 each. That sale ends September 28. Note that you can't really add money directly to your Nintendo 3DS eShop balance anymore, but there are still ways around that, such as linking it to your Nintendo Switch account and adding money to that.

(By the way, the Ace Attorney titles on the Switch are ALSO on sale.)

This isn't a total me-chosen filler article; CAPCOM literally advertised the sale in their Tokyo Game Show 2022 presentation (which is all I'm gonna write about it, probably):

CAPCOM Tokyo Game Show 2022 popular titles on sale Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
There's many other games on sale from CAPCOM as well as many other developers, not just Ace Attorney.

Even more notable—let's face it, CAPCOM games go on sale all the time (including a month ago)—is that the likes of Culdcept Revolt is 86% off (or only $4).

Culdcept Revolt Nintendo 3DS eShop sale 86% off
Sale for Culdcept Revolt ends September 18, 2022!
Other games may have different sale end dates. Consult the eShop for what those are.

Culdcept Revolt is a sort of cross between Monopoly and Magic the Gathering, but without the design elements that makes the latter a bad game. The sprite-work is fantastic and the character design is gorgeous. The music is great and the gameplay is addicting. ...The story is a nonsensical garbage pile, but don't let that stop you.

Anyway, looking back to the Switch, there are many, many high-quality third-party titles on there on sale. (And one first-party game, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, is also on sale, because Shigeru Miyamoto grovelled for it in the Nintendo Direct. I'd recommend many other games on sale now before I'd recommend Pikmin 3. I can't really articulate my problem with Pikmin 3 in 2022, just that I liked the Pikmin Adventure portion of Nintendo Land more than it and I think that's embarrassing for Pikmin 3.) So if your response to the Nintendo Direct was, "There's nothing coming out I'm interested in playing!" then look backwards and I'm sure you're missing things.

Also, Splatoon 3 just came out. That's all I've been doing for the past week, anyway. Still a LOT of fun left to get out of that.

Ludwig certainly has the money to buy games (and at full price!) but he lacks the time to play them between his royal day job and writing for KoopaTV. If you are a less busy person, perhaps you play through games faster than he does... but there should still be lots of great and available games waiting for you that are already out, which should more than cover what you might perceive to be a drought in the future. Ludwig believes calling the forseeable future a drought is delirious, but that'd reflect your personal preferences (which he doesn't share).

New CAPCOM sale a month later at the same discounts.

  1. Culdcept Revolt... that poor game has been sitting in my backlog since launch.

  2. Rats! If the trilogy was on sale for this low low price I'd buy it just to have it. Otherwise I already got all the other games, at full price. I wonder if Capcom will lower the prices even further in the weeks before the 3ds eshop shuts down for good. I mean, some profit is better than no profit.

  3. Not gonna lie, if the 3DS E shop wasn't dead to me I would totally be all over this game. And before you ask, it's because I tried to add funds and I couldn't. It doesn't make a difference if it's not shutting down for another 6 months if I can't get money on it to buy things.

    1. Did you try directly buying a 3DS game off nintendo.com and paying via credit card?

    2. No, because I hadn't the slightest notion that there was a thing you could do.

    5. Guess you'll have to make an experimental purchase with one of the games that's still on sale... like Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney?
