Xenoblade Chronicles Fans Broke the Nintendo Store?

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - I didn't think they had it in them.

I still think of the Xenoblade Chronicles fanbase as small but very vocal, since their games are relatively poor selling for what the Nintendo Switch is capable of. (They won't like that I said that.) Regardless, Nintendo branches across the world have this Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition up for pre-order. Here's how it started.

Staying tuned for more info brings us to this week in June and today. Pre-orders are now live! Two per user, exclusively on store.nintendo.com.

Nintendo.com is currently undergoing maintenance. Please check back soon, and thank you for your understanding.
Oh, well, yikes.

Right now the Nintendo Store is broken for everyone, even if you try to go to something non-Xenoblade Chronicles-related.

So... y'all broke it for everyone. And apparently you might all break it later? Hmph. Where did you all multiply from?

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 releases July 29.

Weirdos. ...Ludwig was supposed to write another article earlier about how this My Nintendo Store is actually new and discuss notable things about it. Hasn't happened yet.

A couple of weeks later, Nintendo actually gave information on Xenoblade Chronicles 3 with a Direct.

  1. Even if the fandom is small it could just be scalpers with bots crashing the store as scalpers believe they can resell for much, much more to very devoted fans.

There are anti-bot measures Nintendo can use such as those online virtual waiting rooms.

    1. In a way, everyone was in an online virtual waiting room for the entire day.
And they're still in the waiting room even now!

  2. And once again, I feel like I'm on the outside looking in...I wanted to like Xenoblade Chronicles, and when I bought Definitive Edition of 1 I thought it was an absolutely beautiful game, its world at near parity with Breath of the Wild's...but I just couldn't stand the absolute lack of consequences for dying. >_<

    1. Wot sort of consequences are you looking for? It already slows down your progression rate.

    2. I hate to be the "back in my day" guy, but back in my day, when you died in a vidyagame, you had to go back to the last time ya saved! And that was if you were lucky! In the REALLY old games, you didn't even get a save!

In all seriousness though, I always really enjoyed the concept of dying and going back to your last save. I liked the meta-strategy of it--do I go ahead and save here, or do I push my luck? It's just something I really miss in a lot of games these days...

  3. With respect to Xenoblade's sales figures, it's only fair to compare it to other non-Pokemon Switch JRPGs, and Xenoblade 2 outsold all of them except Three Houses and Monster Hunter Rise(and Origami King if Paper Mario still counts). Barring unusual circumstances the peak for this kind of game on Switch is like 3-4 million units, and Xenoblade 2 sold over 2 million already. Realistically 3 could well be poised to sell within that range if it's received well, as Switch now has a much bigger install base that's still very active.

    1. Can I shit on Xenoblade Chronicles 1 Definitive Edition because certain Xenoblade fans were telling me it was gonna sell amazingly but it hasn't?

    2. I thought it'd sell as well or better than 2, but it is a decade old game that a lot of people have played already. Though Pikmin 3 Deluxe also sold better than it under similar circumstances. I blame Arlo.

    3. I don't think individual YouTubers have that much clout in the hundreds of thousands of sales. ...Do they?

  4. *bows* I apologize for breaking the Nintendo Store.

    1. It looks like it's fixed now.

I was shocked that attempting to preorder XC3 was such a disaster. I thought maybe it would sell out quickly and I'd miss it that way, but I never expected the store to completely break and just stay broken.

    2. store.nintendo.com is still in maintenance. :(
      But nintendo.com/store isn't.
...Those SHOULD be the same place.

Guess you got another chance, eh?
