(Round 3) Ludwig's Best. Game. Ever 2015 Votes

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Thirty-two of the top games a sheltered gaming community thinks are the best ever.

You might be asking which game I think GameFAQs will crown as the BEST. GAME. EVER. At this point, it's been decisively proven that GameFAQs has lost control over their own contest. Thanks to dedicated crazies at tumblr rallying tens of thousands of votes in support of a game that literally just came out! Jeez, what a honeymoon period.

So it's less GameFAQs and more the Internet. So in that case, KoopaTV does matter! Not that we can tip the scales of a poll. And not that we all think the same way. Well, whatever. Here's what I think. You can vote here, by the way.

Round 3 GameFAQs Best. Game. Ever. contest bracket 20th anniversary edition
TIME FOR ROUND 3! I think the "3" I made here is pretty good!

See my Round 2 picks here. The games I picked did... pretty well. I mean, I voted for who I'd want to win, not who I think will move on. It just so happened that most of them did move on.

Round 3 begins Sunday, so this article won't be on the Best. Game. Ever. tab on this site until Sunday. I just don't want to have polls missed without you knowing my opinion! I'm very important, you see. Also, formatting change: There will be TWO matches a day in Round 3, not the four matches we've had in Rounds 1 and 2. (Round 1 pick here.)

Head to the comments section if you want to start a conversation about any of my choices, or perhaps what YOU'D vote for! And for the first time ever, I'm going to occasionally give comments as to why I'm making certain votes within the article. That should make for a value-added experience.

Division I:

(1) Chrono Trigger vs. (4) Final Fantasy X
(3) Super Smash Bros. Melee vs. (10) Kingdom Hearts II

I'm not looking forward to when seeds 1 & 3 have to fight it out next round. Because both of those games are going to move on from this round. I'd be extremely comfortable if either Chrono Trigger or Super Smash Bros. Melee won the whole contest, and one of these games has a decent chance to be in the semi-finals!

Division II:

(1) Final Fantasy VI vs. (4) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

(3) Super Smash Bros. Wii U vs. (2) Final Fantasy VII

Division III:

(8) Pokémon Red/Blue
vs. (12) Sonic the Hedgehog 2

(6) Undertale vs. (2) Super Mario World

At this point, Undertale needs to stop disrupting the contest. It's one thing for it to beat games I don't care about, but at least I'm IN Super Mario World. Even if I'm grossly miscoloured. ...Because it's either that, or Pokémon will have to beat it.

Division IV:

(1) TES V: Skyrim vs. (5) Metroid Prime
(3) Super Mario 64 vs. (7) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

While I'm not "excited" over its remake at all, I actually did enjoy Twilight Princess more than the average person. I think. And enjoyed Super Mario 64 less than the average person. The game is probably better-designed than Twilight Princess, but... the genre ain't my favourite. And the camera too.

Division V:

(1) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. (4) Final Fantasy IX
(14) Donkey Kong Country 2 vs. (2) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

There is only a certain amount of respect I'll give Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but since Yoshi's Island isn't even in this contest, that makes Donkey Kong Country 2 my favourite platformer in the bracket. Meanwhile, I'll give undue respect to Final Fantasy IX. It doesn't really matter what I vote for there since its opponent is going to win.

Division VI:

(1) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past vs. (4) Dark Souls
(3) Super Metroid vs. (2) The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Division VII:

(9) Super Mario RPG vs. (13) Chrono Cross
(6) Metal Gear Solid 2 vs. (2) Resident Evil 4

I've never played Chrono Cross and I've only heard bad things about it. But... how bad can it really be? Meanwhile, I've only heard good things about Super Mario RPG and I really don't like that game after playing it. I'd take a game that's half as good as Chrono Trigger to beat Super Mario RPG, and only being half as good as your prequel is relatively hard to do! The whole Yoshi's Island series is just that, but those were... exceptional circumstances.

Division VIII:

(1) Metal Gear Solid vs. (5) Shadow of the Colossus
(3) Metal Gear Solid 3 vs. (2) Mass Effect 2

Ludwig can't wait to show his inevitable favouritism bracket at the end of the contest because it differs drastically than these results. Speaking of tumblr, go ahead and follow KoopaTV's tumblr. There isn't any benefit to you since all it does is try to get leads to this site, but reblogging or whatever some of those lead generation attempts would be awesome for us. Be selfless this holiday season.

Round 4 picks here.

  1. Today's round: I voted the same as yours... save for Earthbound vs MGS. Sorry, but I'm siding with Playstation this time.

But yeah, Undertale needs to get BTFO. I really don't see it competing against actually well regarded games (Both Fallout 3 and Mass Effect 3 are very polarizing) It barely beat ME3 as it is. That game and it's fans are absolutely infuriating: I'm sick of them going saying Undertale is the best game ever made.

    1. Oh, that's okay. EarthBound isn't going to win, but might as well make it look good.

    1. I have a grudge against RE4 for changing the Resident Evil series. xD

    2. That's a very public grudge, but if you ignore that genre bit, you'll see RE4 is one of the best action games ever.

  3. Why vote against any Zelda game? Especially the best two. I feel as though you are Satan.

    1. wot

Of the four Zelda games in there, I said I'd vote for three of them.

Considering Wind Waker lost and so will Twilight Princess, I'm actually picking the Zelda underdog!
