Miiverse Downloading Your Post History FAQ!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - We interview a Nintendo customer service rep so you know what to expect.

As you already heard if you actively use Nintendo's Miiverse service, or read KoopaTV, Miiverse will be ending this November. It's a very sad thing for us, as we've discussed. There is, however, one upside: Nintendo is allowing you to download your post history. You can make a download request and read more about it here, assuming you are logged into Miiverse. (It's a shame that link will break in two months.)

Some important information from that:
  • You will be able to have all of your posts (text, images) and Screenshot Album images downloaded to a .zip file sent to your e-mail address associated with your Nintendo Account
    • Comments in your posts, in other people's posts, and private Wii U messages are not included
    • Your Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID need to be linked to one another, which you should have done anyway
    • If you violate the Miiverse Code of Conduct after requesting your post history, the admins may choose to punish you by not giving you the download.
  • You have until now and when Miiverse ends to submit the request.

Nintendo has provided a Miiverse Service Discontinuation FAQ here. However, not all questions were answered in that. So, we went ahead and asked Nintendo more details about the downloadable post history feature.

“Question about the request for post history with Miiverse ending:

If you submit a request for post history now via PC Miiverse, and make subsequent posts/add screenshots to your album after you submit the request and before Miiverse ends, will those after-you-pressed-the-request-button posts and screenshots be included in the .zip file? Put another way: Are the contents of the .zip file determined as of when you press the request button, or by whatever is on your account once Miiverse ends in November?

Additionally, what manner of posts may not be included in the downloadable post history "due to their status at the time the service ends"? Are these posts made before the Miiverse redesign? Are they in-game posts? Could you please be more specific, or is this a general disclaimer?

Thank you very much.”
Even though I was worried about losing access to future posts I'd make, I went ahead and requested my post history when I sent the interview request.

Miiverse request download your post history Nintendo
“You have already submitted a request for your post history.”
Well, I guess I failed to screenshot what the page looked like before you press the button.

Peter V. from Nintendo replied a day later:
Hello,
Thanks for writing. To answer your question, I'd like to elaborate that the download should contain of all your Miiverse posts made up to the last day of the service. Of course, as you've already pointed out, some posts or screenshots may not be included in the downloadable post history due to their status at the time the service ends. This may pertain to a post or screenshot for reasons that may include (but are not limited to) posts that were deleted by the user, or posts that were found in violation of the Miiverse Code of Conduct and removed.
Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc.
Peter V.”
That means if you request the download now, it won't give you posts any faster since the actual processing work happens after Miiverse ends. It also will not leave out any posts you make between now and two months from now. It does mean, however, that you won't be able to forget to do it.

Nintendo already stated on their page that deleted posts, or posts that violated the Code of Conduct, would not be included in the download. It's odd to me that they would repeat that point again later in the page but in indirect, vague wording, but that's all Peter could come up with in terms of reasoning.

Based on how Nintendo worded it, if you request your post history at the last moment, you won't have any time to violate the Miiverse Code of Conduct. Since I requested my post history immediately, I actually have already gotten a Miiverse violation since my request:

Miiverse post hate bullying dumb kid spelling errors Nintendo children
“guys if nintendo takes down miiavers it will be the end and i will hate nintendo!!!! so lets battel for miiavers!!!!!!”
And it's ME that's the hater/bully?

I mean, obviously I'm going to tease that little shitty kid. His name is even “mario”, so aren't I contractually obligated to bash on him? And it wasn't even bullying! All I was saying is that he will never save Miiverse because no Nintendo decision-maker will take him seriously when he spells every word wrong.

I just hope my defence of Nintendo's time and resources won't cost me access to my own.

All Ludwig's Miiverse account is really doing (you can increase his currently-711 Follower count by Following him at NNID PrinceOfKoopas) now is posting replays from Super Smash Bros. For Wii U before that functionality also goes away, since he has no creative ideas from Wii U or 3DS games anymore. As the date for Miiverse ending gets closer, he'll try to advertise KoopaTV so people know where to find him in a post-Miiverse world. This may or may not get him in trouble. If you have any further questions about this feature that have not been addressed, please comment in the comments section and KoopaTV will seek answers for you.

Miiverse has now ended, and the post history download schedule is proceeding as expected.
We have received the post history. Here is everything that was included, which is more than expected!

  1. I'm probably going to wait until the last minute. I keep risking getting my posts deleted with getting my Miiverse friends to find me in other places and some were already deleted.

    1. Nevermind, I have been banned for two weeks. My first ban at Miiverse. Yay

    2. Better late than never? ;)

So they might not give you your post history anyway even if you haven't done the request button. My impression for why it may take weeks to get your post history is not because it'll be a long process software-wise (though it might for the people who shit-post 30 times a day for years), but because they'll have people manually determining if you go to Miiverse Heaven or Miiverse Hell.
