If You've Picked Up The Nintendo Switch On Launch Day...

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - ...Then congratulations. You're SPECIAL.

It turns out that the reason Nintendo chose the Imagine Dragons song “Believer” for their Super Bowl LI commercial is because of all of the PAIN involved in the song. They were foreshadowing the agony in actually acquiring the JUST-LAUNCHED-TODAY Nintendo Switch!

KoopaTV's never done a new Nintendo console launch before, so if there's supposed to be a ritual involved, I'm not aware of it.

Anyway, despite only having The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a handful of other titles at launch (like Snipperclips and “Cow-Milking With 27 Bonus Minigames” 1-2-Switch), that's enough for the Nintendo faithful to want to purchase a Switch. I guess that means they all chose the Nintendo Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild according to my article about which version to buy!

Yet, evidently lots of people bought The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Wii U, according to how active its Miiverse community is. Why? Can they not afford a Nintendo Switch... or do they want one, but could not actually get one due to inventory issues?

There are many reports and stories out there about many different retailers, ranging from Best Buy to Amazon, cancelling or delayed pre-orders. If you haven't pre-ordered, then the high demand is just making these inaccessible. Sounds familiar, right?

...But eventually, you'll be able to buy one in stores. It's okay if you don't get one at launch. It's not like the games are more fun if you play them today instead of next week, or next month, or whatever.

GameFAQs poll of the day midnight release event for a new console launch day Nintendo Switch
Obviously, this is common sense, but MOST gamers don't buy consoles on launch day.

One of the commenters on the Best Buy problem thread said this:
Thing is - I'm a freelancer for a gaming site. I don't get free systems from Nintendo.. so any Switch-related reviews have to come out of my pocket. So getting the console on launch day was pretty essential for me..”
Huh. Sounds like me. Well, guess KoopaTV's page views will fall even further because I can't talk about the Nintendo Switch on a personal basis for... a while. I'm not getting it Day One or even Month One because getting new consoles early is generally ill-advised. Lots of consoles have early problems, between the Xbox 360's Red Ring of Death to the Nintendo 3DS having an early price cut that Rawk once wrote a college essay on.

A lot of outlets are reporting problems with Joy-Cons or how they can't eat Nintendo Switch cartridges. The Nintendo Tech Forums (“Techsider”) is being flooded with problems. I say, let other people suffer problems, wait for Nintendo to fix them, and start my own Nintendo Switch experience without a... hitch.

Nintendo Switch News menu articles video
In the meantime, the Nintendo Switch's own News application is competing against KoopaTV, and already has more readers!
CNET Senior Editor Sean Hollister should consider reading the “Setting the Table(top Mode)” article before making more Fake News.

If you did get a Nintendo Switch at midnight, then you've obviously been playing it already. Hopefully you stayed safe in the store and didn't get murdered. Now make sure that you don't get robbed.

I'm not saying jealous Nintendo fans would forcefully rob lucky Nintendo fans, just that it's not unheard of and you should also carry a concealed gun with you when you use the Nintendo Switch in portable mode. Consider it yet another accessory to add to your total cost of ownership.

...Hey, don't give me that look. My safety advice was REQUESTED.

Ludwig still isn't sure when he's going to acquire a Nintendo Switch. It could be May... or maybe June... or perhaps even July. 2017, at least. He doesn't want to be too behind because KoopaTV would appreciate his ownership of the new hardware, but being too ahead would leave him at risk of being a guinea pig! Meanwhile, Follow him on NNID PrinceOfKoopas if you haven't ditched Miiverse yet, since he has declared he's not leaving.

Some people who pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch were successful in obtaining one.
Was this launch day RUSHED?
While Ludwig failed to get the Nintendo Switch on launch day, he did get one months later.
A little over half a year later, and Nintendo Switch shortages are a thing of the past.

  1. I don't have a Switch yet either. I'll get one before Super Mario Odyssey comes out, though.

  2. Although I do have Breath of the Wild for the Switch in my possession, I'm going to try and finish Skyward Sword on my Wii U first since I've been putting it off for a while now. It will probably be a few months until I pick up the Switch console itself, but I don't mind waiting especially if a bundle releases by that time.

    1. Dat Wii U's Wii mode.

I fear that immediately after I buy the Switch, there will be a bundle or something...

  3. Too busy playing Breath of the Wild on Wii U to care about the Switch right now, to be honest.

    1. Well, if you're playing it on the Wii U, there's nothing to really care about over on the Switch side.
