Splatoon Splattering On APEX 2015!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Hype weekend.

This weekend is APEX 2015, which as KoopaTV already covered, will be the biggest Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U tournament ever. And that Nintendo is sponsoring it. But did you know that Nintendo's sponsorship means other goodies besides money and marketing, like... Splatoon?

Nintendo of America announces Splatoon E3 2014 demo coming to Apex 2015 tournament
Splatoon at what is supposed to be a competitive fighting game tournament? I'll take it.

It's true that this is the E3 2014 demo, which Nintendo showed... a lot during E3 2014. Every day, though we only got our live reactions to it on KoopaTV the first time. It's clear that based on the last time we saw Splatoon, the game has a lot more content than just that E3 2014 demo. So while it's awesome we get to see Splatoon again, it's a bummer that all that awesome new stuff we saw won't be seen in a non-trailer setting.

...But wait, there's more?

Oh... Oh my!

Of course, that could mean anything. Ranging from "New game announcement!" to "Super Smash Bros. 4 DLC information!" to "Sakurai is flying in for some reason!" to "Bill Trinen exhibition match!" to "Reggie will finally play against Hungrybox and kick his ass!" to "We're giving another robe to the winner of the tournament." Or maybe it'll be streaming Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels again like they kept doing in that San Diego 3DS tournament. Or maybe it's this "Newcomer Stream".

Nintendo might finally be doing something in tradition of other companies that sponsor events, like Capcom's reveals.

(Spoilers: It's a JC exhibition match instead. Sorry, Trinen.)

It's best to temper your expectations, and enjoy Apex 2015 for what it is: A really awesome Super Smash Bros. tournament filled with spectacular players doing spectacular things with our favourite Nintendo characters. (Hopefully no one plays as Sonic or Pac-Man.) Anything beyond that should be an unexpected bonus, not the purpose of your watching.

By the way, the stream schedules and locations can be found here. Remember, it's this weekend. Since it's taking place in New Jersey, all times should be in EST. Note the "Super Smash Bros. 64 + Announcements" block on Sunday 3 PM to 5:15 PM at twitch.tv/vgbootcamp. I'm pretty sure Splatoon won't be streamed (unless Nintendo wants to stream it on their own Twitch channel), but we'll sure get more impressions from people for sure.

Splatoon is still my most anticipated game for 2015, and it's coming out this May. I wonder what that means for the rest of the year?

Ludwig will be tuned into watching Apex this weekend, especially on Sunday. He felt bad that Splatoon was really only talked about in live reaction logs despite his hype for it, so that's why this article exists.

It was a hype weekend, but not just for the games. Nintendo's ultimate involvement revealed as well.
