Pretty New Models!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Goes well with pretty old plushies.

Hey, did you see today's Pic of the Day on Miiverse from Masahiro Sakurai?

So? It's DR. WILY! With a new model! Sort of like another third party character with a new trophy model as well...

So besides having Sakurai write my articles for me, the point here is that we have massive potential for new character models in Super Smash Bros. 4's trophy collection. And if the 3DS version alone has more trophies than Brawl (but that's just a rumour) which had a whopping 544, then that's sizable. (By comparison, Super Smash Bros. Melee had 293 trophies.) It also means that Super Smash Bros. For Wii U will have even MORE than that, right?!

A problem with a lot of Brawl's trophies is that they were models we've already seen. ...The descriptions were also either inaccurate, boring, or both. I think we're going to have that fixed, which is a plus for us character art buffs. (Of which I'm not really one.)

Compare:

Tingle's trophy from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Tingle's figurine from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

And now presenting...

Today's second pic of the day. "Here's something new--the trophy shop. If you're having a hard time getting certain trophies, why not just buy them? They sometimes go on sale, too."

...Something is weird with Tingle's nose, but I guess that's the usual.

Oshawott is a Poké Ball summonable just like how Tingle is an Assist Trophy, so he gets a new model from his last one.

From Poké Park 2.

But look at poor Star Fox Assault reject Andrew Oikonny. Dude has been crossing his arms for almost a decade now.

Guess you're not getting in Smash 4 in any notable capacity.

Speaking of Oshawott, the online Pokémon Center website launched. You can buy stuff like Pokémon shirts, binders, and most importantly, plushies. Whether it's a good deal varies, though. $33 for an 18.5 inch Xerneas plushie that is $24 on Amazon. $20 for a Scraggy plush hat that... doesn't exist on Amazon.

By the way, if you were wondering about those silhouettes in the back of the shop in the second pic of the day, none of those are new characters. We got Rosalina and Greninja to your bottom left, Mega Man and Wii Fit Trainer up top middle, Zero Suit Samus and Yoshi to their right, and Villager (not Ness) at the top right. Bottom right is Sonic. But good thought. After all, it wouldn't be the first time Sakurai (or someone else making promotional material) has accidentally leaked characters.

So, will Dr. Wily and Rayman have roles in this game because they have new models from scratch? Or is that just a third party special privilege thing? Will Sakurai have his art team invest hundreds of man hours making new models for every character in the Pac-Man series? Sound off in the comments!

  1. To be fair, I got my Pikachu + Shaymin for like 13$ each at the time.
Maybe because BW was out and Sinnoh wasn't 'in' anymore.
Oh, and I got the Pokeball for free, as well as the Snivy. (Pokeball was a present, and Snivy was BW Pre-Release tour.)

    1. From my perspective, Sinnoh should always be 'in'.

    2. Yeah, Sinnoh's my favorite- And Pearl happened to be my first Pokemon game.
I honestly think the DPPt Storyline/Plot was better than X/Y.

    3. Oh, I don't think anyone should dispute that it's a better plot than XY!

DPPt did the "the team grunts are purposefully incompetent for funniness" thing first and best.
