Nintendo's E3 2017 Plans

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - Knowing Nintendo, it's better than it sounds.

Last week, Nintendo announced their plans for E3 Week 2017, going from June 13 to June 15. Ever the quick-paced and agile shelled creatures we are at KoopaTV, we're just discussing it today. (Hey, we were celebrating an ANNIVERSARY.)

Here's Nintendo's E3 2017 plot, according to their press release:
  • 12 PM Eastern on June 13, 2017 — Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation
    • This will be available at e3.nintendo.com (and KoopaTV will be on top of the coverage) and deal with Nintendo Switch games, including Super Mario Odyssey, releasing in 2017.
  • Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 throughout June 13, June 14, and June 15
    • Subjects will be all sorts of Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS titles, played at depth with your favourite Nintendo Treehouse localisers. KoopaTV will cover this, too!
  • The night of June 13, 2017: The 2017 Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational
    • Four teams, representing the four regions of the United States, Japan, Europe, and Oceania, will compete. KoopaTV will cover this with variable effectiveness.
  • The night of June 14, 2017: The 2017 ARMS Open Invitational
    • It being “open” implies something here, but that “invitational” also implies something... KoopaTV will be sure to cover this, though we might be a little bored.

What's the ultimate analysis here?

This is basically a repeat of 2014's E3, minus the Best Buy event (which was... the best part of E3 2014) and without a cool hype video (at least, there isn't one YET). That had the Nintendo Digital Event (which is what Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 is if you look past the name-change), one invitational tournament (E3 2017 has TWO), and Nintendo Treehouse Live. We rated Nintendo's E3 2014 the most favourably compared to the other companies presenting.

You could also say it's a repeat of 2015's E3 plans, with the Nintendo World Championships serving the role of Nintendo-sponsored fancy tournament. Again, minus any Best Buy event (I'm convinced that the awful attendance of the Super Mario Maker event is the reason 2015 was the last year to have these).

Besides the fact there are TWO tournaments (making up for these being none in 2016), there's nothing really... new to discuss here. Nintendo has a formula that they're comfortably settled in. We're comfortably settled in covering it.

Everyone's comfortable, at least until they want us to watch The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for seven hours straight. That wasn't comfortable at all, and they better not do that ever again.

Message to Nintendo:
NO ONE WANTS TO WATCH Super Mario Odyssey for more than two and a half hours straight, at most.
A more appropriate time amount would be an hour and a half of gameplay at one time.

And... if you don't care about Nintendo's process but just their content, then wait for next month. We'll be all over that content.

Other companies are doing things too. If you wait for next month, we'll have a schedule. And a new site-wide banner. We always do.

If you have ideas for that KoopaTV banner, besides putting Mario's demonic cap's eyeballs as the letter o in Koopa, let KoopaTV know in the comments section below!

  1. Super Mario Oddysey will be the main feature of the presentation, but I'm really hoping there will be some great surprises. Last year's E3 felt lacking because it focused too much on Breath of the Wild and hardly on anything else. There were some great announcements, but I hope that this year now that the Switch is out Nintendo will hit it out of the park with new games such as Super Smash Bros. Deluxe for Nintendo Switch.

    1. If Super Smash Bros. is there in any way I'll be very surprised.
      I think it's too soon.

  2. I think E3 is ~Switched~ on for Nintendo this year! Last year all the youtubers speculated over who had 'won' E3, Sony or Xbox, even though no one cared because we were all too busy looking at our phones trying to catch em' all. This year, I really hope that Nintendo reminds people that there are still fun games out there as well as what's dominated E3 for the past few years.
I'll say it, I'm not afraid to. The breath of the wild is more Conan than the Conan game, and Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will always have better racers playing it than all the Forza racing games combined. I'm smitten over Koopalings being represented in a Kart series, especially after Smash for Wii U and 3DS had a skin change for every wonderful delinquent Koopa kid.
Rock us again Nintendo! Keep sprinkling on all the goodies!
(Smash Deluxe? They better add Castlevania's Simon Belmont, and TV's Captain N the Game master to the roster if they do.)

Right, clearly I disagree with the YouTubers...

Will I appear at E3 this year? It's always Kamek making appearances.

(I don't think Konami's in the position to be reaching out to other companies at this point for cameos. Shame that the Captain N cast won't be reunited, ever. ...Not that much of a shame, though.)

  3. Yah... plus I guess if there were the reunion, they might have Pit saying "A-cus" after every other thing he says. I had forgotten that little caveat of the old cartoon...

What the heck do you think is wrong with Konami, lately? They used to be a loved third party, now people are ready to bring out their pitchforks! Is it just poor PR or is it something more? They might need some kind of outside help, or at least a second chance.
Maybe they should do that up,up,down, down, left, right, left, right,B,A, Start maneuver- it couldn't hurt.
I miss Castlevania being really good.

I blame Castlevania: Erotic Violence. Once you do that, you're done. Just done.

I think they believe casino slots/pachinko is more profitable than traditional gaming, which may or may not be true. Less profit, but much less costs to make them.

Pit is much better off under his modern speech patterns.
