The Wonderful 1237 Strategy Guides: Marco Rubio

It has been a brief intermission, but welcome back to Wonderful Wednesdays, the series of articles that all have to do with KoopaTV's amazing browser-based Flash game, The Wonderful 1237! The Wonderful 1237 features seventeen unique minigames, all from each of the seventeen Republican presidential candidates you will be competing with. This will be the THIRD candidate to cover: Marco Rubio!

As explained in the Wonderful Wednesday article about those minigames, I'm writing these strategy guides — one for each candidate, in a specific order. This one is about the man that critics called the “Republican Obama” who only won one real state (Minnesota — he also won Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico) in the actual primaries: Senator Marco Rubio. Marco Rubio is slightly below average in terms of candidate viability in The Wonderful 1237, which has gotta stink for him. He, however, has the most complicated minigame, and definitely has the potential to make it very far — making his minigame able to count for many delegates. He's also the Coolest candidate — which is useful for getting through Iowa, and then the latter half of states if he makes it that far. Marco Rubio is likely to struggle in the states after Iowa and before the latter half, however.

Minigame

Basic Information

Name:

Water Fuel Fill.

Objective:

Fill the right-side Marco Roboto with the correct amount of water.

Approximate Time to Play:

10 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on if you know what you're doing and RNG.

Controls:

Click on specific areas of the screen while holding down the spacebar.

Strategy

Detailed Description:

According to Marco Rubio himself...

“There is a 3 liter Lil' Marco and a 5 liter Marco Roboto. Get exactly the number of liters I ask for in Marco Roboto. Hold down space to move water from the nozzle into the robots, and from the robots to one another or the dump. The item you've last selected is your active selection. Press on Null with your spacebar down to erase that.
Good luck.”

Essentially, you need to manipulate the water contents of the two Marco Robotos (with the one on the right being the one with the specific water-level content). Once the right-side Marco Roboto has the correct water, he will ask for another water level and you start over. You can choose to select water from the nozzle to the right or left Marco Roboto, and from each Roboto to another or the water dump. Your last click is where water will come from. If you don't like that, click Null. All clicks must be made with the spacebar held down.

Scoring:

If you take 45 seconds or less, you will earn a perfect score (100). Every second after that subtracts from your score (so 46 is a 99, and 144 seconds is a score of 1.)

Optimal Tactics:

Here are the best moves for each water level possibility:
Water Level = 5

1. Click on the nozzle, and then click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto.

Water Level = 3

1. Click on the nozzle, and then click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.
2. Click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto.

Water Level = 2

1. Click on the nozzle, and then click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto.
2. Click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.

Water Level = 4

1. Click on the nozzle, and then click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto.
2. Click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.
3. Click on the Dump.
4. Click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto, and then click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.



At this point, 3L Marco will have 1 Litre, and 5L Marco will have 0L.

5. Click on the nozzle, and then click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto.
6. Click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.

Water Level = 1

1. Click on the nozzle, and then click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto.
2. Click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.
3. Click on the Dump.
4. Click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto, and then click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.
5. Click on the nozzle, and then click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto.
6. Click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.
7. Click on the Dump.
8. Click on the 5-Litre Marco Roboto, and then click on the 3-Litre Marco Roboto.

You never actually have to click on the Null button at any point in the game if you're doing everything optimally.

Variants:

The amount that Marco Roboto will ask for is random for each round (20% for 1 Litre, 2 Litres, 3 Litres, 4 Litres, and 5 Litres), and the selections are independent. (That means that whatever happens in round 1 has no bearing on round 2.)

Classic puzzle measuring mathematical thinking at a rate of multiple steps ahead.

Inspiration/Flavour:

There's several parts to this.

1. Marco Rubio is associated with constantly needing water after he took a sip of water during the Republican response to President Barack Hussein Obama's State of the Union 2013. Donald Trump made fun of him for this on the campaign trail.
   
   


2. Marco Rubio is associated with being a robot (thus, Marco Roboto) after a disastrous debate performance where he repeated his same point a bunch of times in the exact same way. He earned the designation of being a robot on KoopaTV.
   
   


3. The whole moving water between multiple containers to have certain water or liquid level in the containers is a very classic puzzle that I'm personally terrible at. I figured that if I made a minigame about it, I'd personally become a lot better at these.

Put together, what does that mean? Well, I chose the Fillbots aesthetic from Rhythm Heaven because that's a minigame about filling robots with fuel (in this case, Marco Roboto's fuel is water) so it seemed to fit. Marco Rubio says “you know exactly what you're doing, so do it again!” when you do the correct water level the first time, a reference to his repetitive nature. Of course, one of the Marco Robotos is “little Marco Roboto”, a reference to “Lil’ Marco” being Donald Trump's nickname for Marco Rubio.

Unfortunately for Florida, Marco Rubio chose to run for senator again and he won, even after promising during his presidential campaign that he wouldn't run for re-election to the United States Senate should his presidential aspirations fail. This was after he said during the presidential campaign that he was sick of the Senate. Regardless, hopefully YOU'RE not sick of Wonderful Wednesday!
