Yoshi's Woolly World's Snuggly Release

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - With The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes next week.

Finally, Yoshi's Woolly World is out in North America today, October 16 2015. It's already been out in Europe and Japan for a while but we'll pretend it wasn't.

Yoshi's Woolly World title screen
So you're seeing this title screen for the first time!

Of course, you'll need to do more than pressing A to start. You'll need to buy the game. When will I buy it? I dunno. Sometime soon, because I need Moo Moo Yoshi in my life really soon:

That abusive cow-hating plumber better not hurt Moo Moo Yoshi! Good thing he's not in this game, I think.

And I'll get it physically, because you can't digitally download the accompanying adorable Yarn Yoshi amiibo! (Note to Ace Attorney fans: Ace Attorney will get physical retail shelf space and therefore physical game copies if CAPCOM ever gets a Phoenix Wright amiibo to happen.) So I'm not sure when I'll go to the store, because one of those amiibo is MEGA YARN YOSHI which will be available November 15, as that hyperlink tells you.

Why am I getting it? I think most people are agreeing that it's the best game Yoshi stars in since the original Yoshi's Island. I adore Yoshi's Island so much that I devoted a ton of coverage to Yoshi's New Island, but that was dead-on-arrival terrible. No one is saying Yoshi's Woolly World is terrible, though it is getting relatively lower review scores than some expected. Of course, a lot of these reviewers are idiots who don't know what they're talking about, which is far from a new concept.

KoopaTV staffer Kamek is off trying to recruit new people to KoopaTV's staff through this adventure. If they manage to defeat Yoshi, then they're KoopaTV-material. Don't ask what strength has to do with artistic article ability.

Kamek: “Say hello to Big Montgomery, and say good-bye to your chances of winning!”
anna: “My son, Montgomery, was born Monday. How fitting!”

When we're not trying to hire infants (and trying to hire you), we also play games with one another. So the online-enabled The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is coming out next week, and Nintendo went ahead and e-mailed many people a set of three demo codes. Personally, I'm sick of receiving demo codes from Nintendo, especially expired ones (which these aren't). And on the same note, my previous experience playing a demo of The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes didn't go so well.

So what should I do with these codes? Maybe someone here wants them? I'm not sure the most equitable way of giving these out (first-come first-serve isn't equitable since it favours Google+ the most, since they get shared new articles first), and the KoopaTV Loyalty Rewards Program is more for longer-term rewards. By the time the round ends, the demo codes would be useless! They're only usable October 16, 17, and 18, as you can see by the e-mail I got below.

We'd like to note these are America-region only.
Why is there a Mandibuzz in that picture?

I mean if you guys really want me to play it with some of you, I'll use my code for myself. But that leaves these two unused codes...

I think the limited hours thing is to try to not have the situation that happened with the Super Smash Bros. For 3DS demo codes, because maybe after the big success those had hyping up that game, maybe someone at Nintendo thought it was sort of... disgusting.

Well, at least we can agree Yoshi's Woolly World isn't disgusting! We CAN unanimously agree to that...right?

Ludwig has a lot of games he needs to play on his Wii U, but he has pretty much cleared his 3DS backlog. Perhaps he should fill it with something, but still not necessarily The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. He's open to ideas for distributing those codes, including just giving them to people who ask in the comments. Yoshi's Woolly World screenshots from Miiverse.

KoopaTV live-reacted to Yoshi's Woolly World's showing back at E3 2014 and thought it was adorable. It can only be better!
Ludwig thought Yoshi's Woolly World was in his top 3 favourite games from E3 2014.

  1. I was just going to purchase the Mega Yarn Yoshi amiibo until I learned it would be an exclusive to Toys R Us. I suppose the blue one will have to suffice.

    1. ...shit, guess I'm not getting it then. ;_;

Actually I never convinced myself I wanted to spend $40 for MEGA YARN YOSHI anyway...

  2. I got three demo codes, too. If the demo included single player, I'd probably try it. As it is, I'm not sure what to do with my codes, either.

    1. So there were... 3 dungeons available in the Best Buy Nintendo Access Demo, and I guess from this e-mail it's only one?

    2. I don't remember the specifics of the Best Buy demo, but there are 3 dungeons in this demo too. Unfortunately even during the server time you can't play with friends, which was a bit disappointing, but on the other hand random co-op and communicating through smilies that inflate the more you smash their icon was sort of fun -- even in the fairly simple dungeons we got to play, some players seemed pretty confused with the puzzle solving, so I'm a little skeptical how that'll translate to the real game, but I'll probably be playing that entirely single-player or with friends... Strange thing is you get items for the crafting system at the end of the dungeon, and the demo doesn't mention it but it would be interesting if they transferred to the full game. Really hyped for it so far though, definitely combines the best parts of Four Swords and Link Between Worlds.

On a tangent/actual focus of the article, I just beat the first two worlds in Woolly World -- I avoided the three months of spoilers, and I'm pretty impressed so far. It definitely lives up to the hype as the best Yoshi game since Yoshi's Island. Seems to have a full 6 worlds with 9 stages each as well, from what I can tell from the menus.

    3. I played the demo last night for Triforce Heroes. It's exactly the Best Buy demo + the lobby where you form teams. (The Best Buy demo started at the dungeon-selection/fashion-selection screen.)

I was pretty confused about the problem-solving in the fire dungeon with the block pushing in the area with the rising lava. I thought you had to lift and throw people onto the blocks from the start to get the chests/shoot the centre switch, but I guess you had to push the blocks. So people kept tapping "NO" when I was doing it wrong, and were very "curious" about me. <_<

I will say that the smilies-tapping was the most fun part of the whole demo, which is probably a bad thing. Makes me want more than C'MON and BOOYAH in Splatoon. It's also way more fun than voice chat would be.

Awesome, you're makin' me want Woolly World even mooore.

      Thanks for the comment!
